SC approves the
annual budget
By Vijay Bhor
CBD-BELAPUR: The
Standing Committee
of Navi Mumbai
Municipal Corporation has unanimously approved
the Commissioner’s
budget proposal for
2015-16 but only
after increasing it
by Rs 25 crores.
On Friday, the
administration had
presented the
budget proposal for
Rs 1,866 crores.
When it came up
for discussion in the
Standing Committee
on Monday, many
members felt that
some items needed
greater provisions.
They suggested that
the provision for road
repairs be increased by
Rs 14 crores and that
for repair and maintenance of school buildings by
Rs 3
crores.
They also
wanted
Rs 8
crores
more to
cover the
electricity
bills of
various
departments.
As for the revenue
side, they suggested
But only after
increasing the
provisions by
` 25 crores
that the administration ask for a loan of
Rs 25 crores from
MMRDA.
So, at the end, the
proposal stood revised
to Rs 1,891 crores
which was passed by
the committee unanimously.
Strangely, out of
the 16 members of the
Committee, today’s
meeting was attended
by only 8. There was
no serious discussion
either, according to
scribes who were
present on the occasion.

desperate search for ‘fortunes’, three Congress
leaders have switched
sides and joined Shiv

Sonavane’s wife Hemangi Sonavane are sit-

Though they have not
resigned from their party, it can be assumed
that with their husbands switching sides,
they too can be taken to
have done the same.
Also swelling the
ranks of the Sena are
Shivram Patil of NCP
and his wife, sitting corporator Anita Patil. For
a long time, they have
been active in the civic
circles as independent
members. Some time

CM Kejriwal up against reality
We heard the shocking opinion that almost 50% of the money received by the
contractors for undertaking civil works is
distributed as commission among various
stake holders – politicians, executives,
engineers, supervisors and even clerks in
the accounts department of the civic body.
This applies to the contracts given by the
state as well as the central government
department and the numerous corporations. Will Arvind Kejriwal, who is by now
acknowledged as the greatest crusader
against corruption in the country, deal with
this type of corruption? Definitely, that is
costing the country more than the money
taken by the ubiquitous and irritating little constable. That will mean taking on the
most powerful in the country! Aside, reports say that a few slum dwellers, whose
jhopdis were razed by the Delhi police,
held a demonstration in front of the CM’s
house a day after he took oath. What sort
of promise does he have to give them?
Does his election manifesto contain a
promise to regularize all the unauthorized
slum colonies? Leave that also aside. How
is he going to fulfil the promise made to
contract workers of DTC? Is he going to
take on the rikshaw drivers and street
vendors who are a law unto themselves in
Delhi but who are also his biggest supporters? These issues will bring out the true
colour and the innate strength of Kejriwal
and his off beat party, AAP.
That is not to reject the party as no different from the numerous other parties in
the field. As for Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, two cash rich municipal corporations,
we need drastic cleaning. People are waiting for an alternative like AAP which is
likely to get widespread support if it contests the election. The only fear is that its
ranks may be filled with the defectors from
one or the other existing parties who are
ready to cross over to take advantage of
the visible wave in the air. And, with Shiv
Sena at the core, Mumbai’s population is
far from cosmopolitan as compared to Delhi’s. That doesn’t mean that Kejriwal
should not try his hand in Mumbai. He and
his men should jump into the fray. No
doubt, the party has proved to be different in the way it collected election funds.
People came forward and contributed on
their own. There was no trace of corruption in the exercise despite an isolated
case of a large donation coming from unnamed sources. It is this image that will
carry it forward. With Anna Hazare having
staked his moral support to Kejriwal – as
a product of his anti-corruption movement
– he will remain a bright star in the arena
of anti-corruption movement. His moral
principles and economic policies however
will come in for close questioning. Regularising illegal colonies is one such issue.
It may win him votes but will not stand the
scrutiny of reason.

Con-Bizman dupes partners Navi Mumbai Police felicitated
by Commissioner K.L Prasad
of more than ` 4 crore
By Vikram Gaikwad
VASHI: Navi Mumbai’s crime branch unit
has arrested a con –
businessman
who stole cash
worth Rs 4
crore 46 lakhs
which
was
meant to be the
initial investment, from a
Vashi business
partner. The
accused with
his associates
had similarly
duped a Goregaun businessman of Rs 29 lakhs.
Conman, Deepak
Karane is a resident of
Ghatkhopar and had
met Vashi businessman
Satish Sawant in 2010.
He had proposed a mobile phone business
plan to Sawant, which
was to be set up in sec17 of Vashi. He had
agreed to be the partner in his business and
had contributed Rs. 4
crore and 46 lakhs as
capital investment for
the company. Karane,
however had other
plans and fled with the
amount. When Sawant
came to know that he
was being cheated, he
demanded him to return his money. But
instead, was threatened
to keep mum about the
whole ordeal. Accordingly, he had lodged a
complaint against
Karane with Vashi Police.
Meanwhile,
Karane was already
onto his next victim,
who happened to be a
Mahashivratri...
dissolves into. It is from
that stage, the deity
Lord Shiva takes form.
‘Aum....is
not
mine...but belongs to
Shiva.’
Essentially, the
word ‘Nama’ comes
from the Vedic chants
of ‘Na Mama’ (Not
mine) and ‘Namoh’
means to offer oneself in
Obeisance. ‘Na Mama’
expresses the true attitude of the bhakta or
practitioner. All that is,
belongs to God and I am
only offering to God
what is already owned
by God. This spirit of
surrender and selflessness is the ESSENCE
of this seemingly mystical but in fact truly
simple spiritual practice!
‘Aum
Namah
Shivaya’ is one of the
most significant mantras in Hinduism,
which translates to Praising or Giving in to
the Supreme (evident as
‘Aum’ in it) Lord (Shiva). Shiva is considered
to be the One into whom
all the existence ‘ends
or reaches’. According
Cont. from pg. 5
to Hindu mythology
there are three Gods
who run this creation.
The Brahma - who creates the universe, the
Vishnu – who preserves
the Universe and the
Shiva- who in the end
destroys the universe.
Among the three deities, Shiva, though considered as destroyer,
also symbolize the - the
inner self which remains intact even after
everything ends.
This mantra is best
for meditation...it effects positively on all
our chakras. Om
Namah Shivay is a
very powerful mantra.
It has been said about
this mantra that if this
mantra vibrates continually in your heart,
then you have no need
to perform austerities,
to meditate, or to practise yoga.
The two syllables
na- and mah- can be
translated as “I humbly bow to you”. The
three syllables shi-vaaya invoke Lord Shiva
and all his energies to
bless us and lead us to
Ghansoli businessman
Laximinarayan Yadav.
The police had been after him for years but he
had been successful in
evading them, when at
last he was caught by
Navi Mumbai’s crime
branch unit.
During his interrogation, Karane confessed to have bought
cell phones of various
companies from Laxminarayan, worth of Rs.
29 lakhs with the help
of his two associates
and to have duped him
by paying him with
non-cashable checks.
the highest state of
peace and meditation.
The five elements
too, are embodied in
this ancient formula
for invocation. Na is
earth, Ma is water, Si
is fire, Va is air, and Ya
is ether, or akasha.
Om Namah Shivay
is a very powerful mantra. It has been said
about this mantra that
if this mantra vibrates
continually in your
heart, then you have
no need to perform austerities, to meditate, or
to practise yoga. To repeat this mantra you
need no rituals or ceremonies, nor must you
repeat it at an auspicious time or in a particular place.” This
mantra is free of all
restrictions. It can be
repeated by anyone,
young or old, rich or
poor and no matter
what state a person is
in, it will purify him.
Nama% Œivaya has
such power, the mere
intonation of these syllables reaps its own
reward in salvaging
the soul from bondage
of the treacherous instinctive mind!
