Jill and Zach Leonard - UpperMichigansSource.com

Zach and Jill Leonard are honored to have been invited to participate in this unique
fundraiser for such a worthy cause, the U.P. Hospice Foundation.
Jill was born and raised in Flushing, a small Lower Peninsula community. She never visited
the Upper Peninsula until she decided to attend Lake Superior State University and play point
guard on the girls’ basketball team. She graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering
from there and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in business from Kettering University. For 15
years, she worked in management for General Motors.
Jill is now thrilled to live in Marquette with her family. She and Zach have 3 active sons, and
they so appreciate all of the recreational and educational experiences that are available for
them in this community.
While primarily a stay-at-home mother, in 3 short years, Jill has also immersed herself in
many activities. She is currently Vice-President of Sales/Marketing at Stang Decisions and
serves on the Father Marquette school council. In addition, she initiated the infamous “Ethel’s
Card Club” for her women friends and, along with her husband, she has hosted several
fundraisers.
Zach was born and raised in Iron Mountain, Michigan. He graduated from the University of
Michigan and then earned his Medical Degree from the Wayne State University School of
Medicine. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgical residency at Beaumont Hospital and then
went on to do a fellowship in foot and ankle reconstruction.
When it was time to determine where he would work as an orthopaedic surgeon, the answer
was crystal clear after one visit to Marquette. For Jill, it was “love at first sight.” For Zach, a
“Yooper” at heart, it was “coming home”. He currently works at the Advanced Center for
Orthopedics and one can often find him on the sidelines of a variety of athletics events.
Both Zach and Jill love music and dancing, but have never had any formal dance instruction.
Jill grew up dancing at polka festivals in Lower Michigan with her parents. Zach did some
breakdancing to Michael Jackson’s Thriller in kindergarten. They are now ready to join forces to
raise money for a cause that touches so many lives. “Let’s get this party started!”
