MACKLIN - (Reverend John MACKLIN of the Church of Ireland served as the local
Minister in the Barony of Loughrea, Clonfert Parish, County Galway for ten years. He
was listed within the local parish as a land owner/tenant with the local post office in
1848 and with the Griffith's Valuation of 1848 to 1864 as well as with Slater's
directory of 1848. I believe he served with St Brendan's Cathedral. [Rev Wayne

MADDEN - (William MADDEN (1785-1854) and Ellen DONLAN (1786-1888),
arrived from County Galway, in 1843, to the Portland Ward, in the Irish City of Saint
John, New Brunswick, in British North America. William's Family of three boys and
one daughter settled in Madden's Flats, King's County, it's a 100 miles east of Saint
John. William's sons were Daniel-1822, Patrick-1826, John (1832-1912) and Bridget
(1838-1912). In 1870 Madden's Flats became known Seeley Mills, and later it was
changed again to be named Waterford. Tim MADDEN arrived in 1835, and was one
of the first to settle in Madden's Flats. These Madden's had 400 acres, they ran a
Lumber Mill, and a Mink Farm. After William and Ellen passed, Daniel & Patrick left
for Iowa. John sold the Mill, and bought the Manning Farm in Smiths Creek in 1878.
His son bought the farm in 1928, and gave it to his brother Frank ,it still In the Family
today. Both John and his sister Bridget married into the GALLAGHER clan. Tim was
a cordwainer, he moved to North Western New Brunswick. The highest concentration
of Irish settlement was in South Western New Brunswick,greater than anywhere else

He married Catherine SMITH (SMYTH?) and they had 10 children. Not sure if only
one marriage. John served 21 years in British Army in India and five children born in
India and five were born in Polboy. Part of India service was with 31st Regiment of
Foot. John and Catherine returned to Ballinasloe abt.1846. Would like to know more
about these folks and what happened to their children. We know one, Ann MALONE
was born in Polboy, came to USA, married Thomas WALSH and became my

MANNING – (Searching for Peyton's parents and siblings from Ireland, Peyton
Walker MANNING (1826- 1911). Peyton was baptized in the Parish of Moylough,
Galway. Peyton joined the Army's 6th regiment in June 1846 as a 19-year-old
Private. In August of that same year he transferred to the 37th Regiment to be with an
elder brother. He served 3 1/2 years in Ceylon, today known as Sri Lanka. His
service record in WO97/1720 shows that he served in 6th and 37th Regiments and
later the Staff of the Army. Peyton was awarded the Army Long service and Good
conduct medal, before being discharged in 1864. He married Ellen DUFFY on July
13, 1856 at St John’s Bolton-Le-Moors, in Lancashire England. According to his
marriage certificate, his father’s name was Patrick MANNING. Sometime after their
son Albert Peyton MANNING was born in 1864 they immigrated to Providence,
Rhode Island and had another child, William Joseph MANNING. The family later
moved to Charlestown, MA. Peyton died in Revere MA and was buried with full

This is the little bit of information I have as to what happened to these MITCHELLS,
MANNIONS, GUERINS: My Great grandmother, Elizabeth MITCHELL, married
Cornelius GUERIN, in the parish of Caltra, 21 Jul 1883, while living in MtBellows.
Cornelius Guerin was born in Duagh, Co Kerry, in 1859 (parents Mary HEFFERNAN
and James GUERIN). Cornelius was in the RIC from 1881 – 1889. I don’t believe
the RIC knew he was married. Cornelius and Elizabeth GUERIN had my
grandmother, Mary Josephine GUERIN, 14 may 1884 in the parish of Caltra. I don’t
believe the RIC knew about Mary Josephine. I don’t believe Mary Josephine lived
with Cornelilus and Elizabeth for long. She was sent to live in an orphanage in
Toronto City, Canada. I found Mary GUERIN and a Mary MITCHELL (Mary
Josephine’s aunt, Elizabeth’s sister?) in the 1890 Canadian census. Elizabeth and
Cornelius GUERIN immigrated to the U.S. in 1889, under the names Elizabeth and
Cornelius MITCHELL. Cornelius left before he was formally discharged from the
RIC. Their daughter, Mary Josephine GUERIN, immigrated in 1894 to the U.S.
escorted by Patrick and Mary MITCHELL. Once in the states, I don’t believe she

born in Headford, Galway, about 1775. He joined the 32nd Dragoons (don't know
where or when) and by 1796 had attained the rank of Sergeant. On 1st November
1796 Anthony transferred to the 14th Light Dragoons with the rank of Sergeant and
until September 1798 served in Captain Brown's Company. From September 1798
until April 199 he served in Captain Butler's Company and following that with
Captain's Nolan's Company until June 1802. From July 1802 he served with Captain
PEARSE's Company and on 25th June 1804 was promoted to Sergeant Major. In

McILLREE – (Interested in any information on (1) John Brice BLAKE, son of Sir
John BLAKE and Rose BRICE (Sir John's second wife). Captain John Brice Blake of
the 47th (or Lancashire) Regiment of Foot married (2) Frances McILLREE (the
widow KENNEDY) on 1 July 1840 in St George's Parish, Dublin. The BLAKEs lived
in Galway. John Brice BLAKE apparently gave up his Army life to manage some of
his father's estates in the Drumsuav area. It is understood these BLAKEs lived at
Doon Cottage, once a hunting lodge. (Listed on the Landed Estates, Galway website).
Frances may have run a school there in the 1840s. The BLAKEs may have also built a
school nearby with church assistance. John Brice BLAKE may have died c. 1860 or
1861. No information on him much in online BLAKE family records. Frances

McLAUGHLIN – (I am searching for my great grandfather, John (Jack was his
nickname) McLAUGHLIN’s birth certificate. He came from Galway and immigrated
to South Africa in his late twenties. It seems that he did not register in South Africa. I
believe the oldest church do keep the old record in Galway (where he came from). I
have found a cemetery book in South Africa that states he died at the age of 63 years
which is dated 2nd September 1939 implying a date of birth of about 1876. I have

GUERIN, in the parish of Caltra, 21 Jul 1883, while living in MtBellows. Cornelius
Guerin was born in Duagh, Co Kerry, in 1859 (parents Mary HEFFERNAN and
James GUERIN). Cornelius was in the RIC from 1881 – 1889. I don’t believe the
RIC knew he was married. Cornelius and Elizabeth GUERIN had my grandmother,
Mary Josephine GUERIN, 14 may 1884 in the parish of Caltra. I don’t believe the
RIC knew about Mary Josephine. I don’t believe Mary Josephine lived with
Cornelilus and Elizabeth for long. She was sent to live in an orphanage in Toronto
City, Canada. I found Mary GUERIN and a Mary MITCHELL (Mary Josephine’s
aunt, Elizabeth’s sister?) in the 1890 Canadian census. Elizabeth and Cornelius
GUERIN immigrated to the U.S. in 1889, under the names Elizabeth and Cornelius
MITCHELL. Cornelius left before he was formally discharged from the RIC. Their
