awareness session for the
police officials at Mellli
Check Post was conducted
by the Melli PHC today.
With the recent outbreak of
the swine flu across the
State, Doctors and Staff of
the Melli PHC informed and
sensitized the police officials at the check post to
keep a check on the people
coming in from outside the
state.
Gangtok, Feb 26: Mangalmit Lepcha and Bhaichung
Tshichudarpa from Sikkim
participated at the second
edition of the South Asian
Poetry Festival for peace
2015, held in Kathmandu on
February 21and 22.
Lepcha and Tshichudarpa from Sikkim were among
the 24 participants representing poets from South Asia
region, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Pakistan.

Bal (SSB) Gangtok organized
Samajik Chetna Abhiyan,
Medical and Veterinary Civic Action Programme at Ribdi, West Sikkim today.
The three day long programme was aimed at community participation for better border management and
developing coordination
and rapport with people in
the border areas for better
public-police relationship
and to educate people particularly the youths on the
social consciousness (Samajik Chetna).
Manoj Kumar Singh, Second-in-Command (Officiating Commandant) 36th Bn
SSB Gangtok, highlighted
the aims and objectives of
the programme and informed
about various activities to be
carried out during the Samajik Chetna Abhiyan.
A rally was also organized
on the theme emphasizing
mainly on Anti Drug Abuse
and HIV/AIDs by the different school students, local
people and SSB personnel to
generate awareness among
the local about its impact on
the society.
Apart from this a Medical
and Veterinary Civic Action
Programme was also carried
out with dedicated team of
Para-medics and Para-Vety
staff along with Dr. Doma
Lachenpa, A. C. (Medical
Officer), of 36th Bn SSB Gangtok to provide medical assistance in the remote villages
and Vety assistance to the
owners of livestock in the
areas.

MLA, Daramdin Constituen-
cy and Guest of Honour Debika Subba Zilla Adhyaksha
West Sikkim expressed their
happiness for initiatives taken by SSB in carrying out
people–oriented welfare activities and consciousness
programmes.
They also urged the gathering to reap full benefits of
various community development and capacity building
activities undertaken by SSB.
The programme ended
with presentation of mementos to the Chief Guest and
Guest of Honour by Manoj
Kumar Singh Second-inCommandant.
ICFAI launches prospectus
for B.Com- LLB
Gangtok, Feb 26: ICFAI,
University, Sikkim launched
its new Law Prospectus to-
day declaring the commencement of professionally oriented additional Law programme of B.Com-LLB and
LLB.
The two courses are of
five and three years duration
respectively with the entry
level qualification of 10+2
and graduates.

Sudden hail-storm takes
Siliguri citizens by surprise
Siliguri, Feb 26: The citizens
of Siliguri were caught by
surprise when a sudden
storm swept in, dropping hail
stones the size of marble
balls. Weather changed
abruptly when the hailstones started pouring down
at around 2:15pm followed
by strong gush of cold wind
and rainfall.
People on roads were
seen screaming and running
for cover to nearby stores,
stalls, and empty spaces as
the hail storm intensified.
Fortunately, no one was injured despite the size of the
hail stones and the intensity
of down-pour.
“The hail-storm was for a
short time, but its impact was
big. I was scared of getting
injured on the head as I had
not carried an umbrella”, said
a commuter. “The size of the

Siliguri, Feb 26: For the second time in 24
hours, North Bengal Development Minister
Gautam Deb held a meeting with 15 residents
of ward no.5, along with Forward Bloc member Mahananda Mandal to aim to resolve
the Ramghat issue. The table-talk was aimed
to resolve pending cases registered against
some residents of Natunpara, where Ramghat
is located, in connection with two incidents
of violence in September and November last
year, informed a source.

Sam): A three-day Annual
World Peace Prayer began
today at the Urgen Choeling Monastery, in Dodak,
west Sikkim. The puja being organized under the
aegis of Ingyur Buddhist
Sung was led by his eminence Tuku Tashi Rimpoche accompanied by 30
other monks from various
monasteries of the region
and will last till Feb 28.
Today being the first
day of the event, prayers
of Bajra Kil was chanted.
From tomorrow onwards
prayers of Rigijan Duipa
and Solkha would be
chanted respectively, informed a monastery
source.
