The meeting had the presence of Additional Chief Secretary S.C. Gupta and other line departments. Health Minister A.K. Gha- ticipation from various departments and concerned authorities to make the event a grand success. He informed that the programme at Sikkim Legislative Assembly complex will be followed by the state level function at Chintan Bhawan. The Minister also informed that a Celebration Committee has been constituted which will coordinate with concerned departments to ensure that all aspects related to the programme are taken care of. The Minister categorically stated that most of the activities will be based on success stories of individuals who have made a mark in society in various fields, the main motive of which will be to inspire the younger generation. (IPR) Quality Seed Production programme for farmers of Dochum Gangtok, Mar 20: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR Sikkim Centre organized participatory training cum maize seed distribution programme on Thursday at Dochum, Tinik and Rabdong villages of East Sikkim. More than progressive farmers were provided with composite maize variety RCM 1-1 and popcorn maize variety RCM 1-2. Chief guest Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Sikkim centre encouraged the farmers to undertake production of quali- ty seed of maize and become self dependent in seeds. He urged the farming community of the locality to make Dochum, and other adjoining villages as quality seed producers. Dr. H. Kalita, Principal Scientist (Entomology), ICAR Sikkim Centre detailed the organic management of insect pest in maize and cucurbit crops especially bitter gourd, cucumber and bottle gourd. Ongdi Sherpa, Horticulture Inspector, HCCDD, briefed the gathering about the procurement procedure of seed material by the State Department and urged the Panchayat of the villages to take lead role in procurement process of quality seed from the farmers. Bhim Maya, Panchayat, Dochum village expressed her happiness towards the endeavors put forth by KVK East Sikkim with different agricultural technologies in the village. She further ensured more and better cooperation on behalf of the farmers towards the organization in carrying out other agricultural activities for the welfare of farming community. (PIB) Sikkim Manipal Swashtya Suraksha launches student scheme HM Report Gangtok, Mar 20: The Annual function of Sikkim Manipal Swasthya Suraksha (SMSS) was organised today at the College Auditorium of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Science (SMIMS). The function was attended by Rajen Padukone, Group President Manipal Education and Medical Group, P.D Shenoy, Advisor SMU, Brig. Somnath Mishra, VC SMU, G.S Jonega, Dean SMIMS, Ashish Sharma, Registrar SMU, K.J Singh, Cricketer Yuvraj Singh to support Darjeeling cancer patient Jyotika Medical Superintendent Central Referal Hospital (CRH) and Pompy Sridhar – Consultant SMSS. The scheme was launched on March 31, 2014. Registrar Ashish Sharma informed about the scheme and said that the scheme is affordable and accessible and everyone can afford for it. In the occasion SMSS student scheme was launched by the Chief Guest Rajen Padukone. The Student Scheme will be available for the student of schools and colleges of Sikkim with a mere payment of Rs Rs 250 student per year. The scheme will provide inpatient benefits up to Rs 1.5 lack added with other Out Patient benefits. The students from Bahai School, Tadong, Indrakil Saraswati Vidhyalaya- Ranipul, Cannan School- Ranipul and Himalayan Academy- Ranipul have already enrolled themselves. The health cards were also distributed to the students. In the occasion certificates and trophies were also handed over to their best performing agents and token of thanks was also given to the supporters. HM Report Gangtok, Mar 20: World Sparrow Day was observed collaboratively by Vivid Kala Academy of Sikkim (VKAS) and the Press Club of Sikkim here today at Tadong Senior secondary school today. Hundreds of students gathered at the Assembly ground were informed on the declining numbers of house birds dwelling in and around urban areas, particularly the sparrows. Usha Lachugpa present as the resource person deliberated on the caus- Training for QRT concludes es of declining affairs of house birds like sparrows and the importance to restore their milieu. She stressed upon the need and importance of the sparrows as they help in keeping bio-system and the ecology in balance. Sakyong Chisopani Junior High School also observed the World Sparrow Day at its school today by organizing a photo exhibition of birds clicked by Shital Pradhan, teacher, Sakyong Chisopani School. Management and Development Department (RMDD) in collaboration with State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) organized a district level program on National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness. The awareness program was organized with a special focus on World Water Day 2015 with the support of Ministry of Drinking Water And Sanitation, Government of India (WWF-INDIA). Bimal Dabari Zilla Adhyaksha East was present as the chief guest and had the presence of Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner C.P. He appealed participants to be serious about the programme which are being conducted all over the state. Chief Guest C.L Gurung highlighted the role of stu- Gangtok March 20: Five days training programme for Quick Response Team (QRT) Sikkim concluded here today at the auditorium of Sikkim Government College, Tadong, East Sikkim. Training was organized by Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), Land Revenue Disaster Management Department. 80 participants of Quick Response Team from all four districts and SSDMA were given training on Psycho social Care basic and Psycho social Care post disaster, Basic First Aid tip, Disaster Victim Identification, Basic Fire fighting, Search and Rescue and also apprised about Roles and Responsibilities of QRT by the resource persons. The State Relief Commissioner Tsegyal Tashi graced the occasion as the chief guest and presented the trainees with the certificates. He urged the trainees to continue their participation in training sessions and informed that Department will initiate training programmes in districts. The Relief Commissioner also informed that QRT will be recognized by the Head Quarters and will also be provided with identity cards and especial uniform which will be very handy in recognizing them during the rescue operations and also provide them with quality equipment.
