Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce CHAMBER LIFE “T HE MISSION STATEMENT IS TO STRENGTHEN AND SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY BY PROMOTING BUSINESS GROWTH , EDUCATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.” A NCHORED Vol. 29, No. 2 IN FARRAGUT SERVING THE C OMMUNITY FOR 25 YEARS A Publication of the Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce February 2015 Auction aims to entertain! Snowboarding! Sailing! Movies! Mountain climbing! Great food! Grammy-winning music! What entertains YOU? Whether it’s one of the activities mentioned or something completely different, the Chamber’s 2015 Auction aims to find out what makes you say, “That’s Entertainment!” The Chamber is excited to celebrate its 28th Annual Dinner, Silent and Live Auction with the theme “That’s Entertainment!” which will take place on Friday, April 24, at Rothchild’s Catering & Conference Center beginning at 6 p.m. As the Chamber’s largest charity fundraising event of the year, the Auction helps fund the Chamber’s Continuing Education Grants given to qualifying member businesses in amounts up to $500. A charitable donation is taken from a portion of ticket sales. This year the Chamber is working closely with East Tennessee Children’s Hospital to target a specific need within the hospital for the funds raised by the Auction. Guests will enjoy a fantastic meal after browsing and bidding on their choice of dinners, spa packages, wines and other silent auction items. Silent auction item donations are now being accepted; the minimum value is $50 which is tax-deductible to the donor business. Businesses are welcome and encouraged to contact the Chamber or a committee member to make their donation. Guests can also view and vote on the featured tabletops, built and donated by member businesses, which will be sold following dinner. Competition amongst tabletop builders is fierce and 2015 promises to be even more fierce than usual. Chamber presi- dent, Bettye Sisco, was thrilled to recognize the 2014 winners on stage last year, with first place and the “Best Dressed Tabletop” plaque going to SouthEast Bank by a twovote margin, first runner-up to Y-12 Federal Credit Union and second runner-up to Regions Bank. Auctioneer, Bear Stephenson, will return to ignite the crowd during the fast-paced live auction. Posh Petal Designs The Chamber welcomes these businesses who have joined us recently in the month of January: Knoxville, TN 37934 www.ilovejuicebar.com American Family Care Felicia Fortune 9203 Kingston Pike Knoxville, TN 37922 www.americanfamilycare.com Bettye Sisco Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look at what they can do when they stick together. ~Vesta Kelly Teamwork is the very word that describes the results when each person involved with a project, does their job well, combines their efforts with each member and then works together as one unit. Everyone has their own unique role, and each person's individual role must be recognised and appreciated, to make the final result a success. Teamwork is something that is a high priority and given constant attention. Every player needs to understand how important it is for them to work smoothly together if they want to be successful. Each player must be dedicated to the whole team and be willing to act unselfishly. When challenges arise (as they always do), the team needs to have the resources, accountability and commitment to deal with them in a constructive and positive manner. A sense of teamwork will play an integral part in this. It is not who is right, but what is right. Teamwork allows workers to take greater responsibility for decision making. This can lead to improved morale as team members gain more authority and ownership over the projects they are working on. The extra responsibility leads to a more rewarding work environment. Working on a team also gives a greater sense of belonging and of recognition, which helps members take more pride in their work and their company. Teamwork can help each involved to be more flexible. As problems arise in one area, the entire team can deal with them and the work can proceed much faster. Creativity, innovation and different viewpoints are expected and encouraged. Comments such as, "we already tried that and it didn't work" or "what a dumb idea" and “I am not doing that,” are not allowed or supported. They don’t add to the team. “Make me thoughtful but not moody, helpful, but not bossy.” To work in coordination, it is essential to understand and respect others in the team. Be kind to each other. Kindness is an attitude, an expression, a look, a touch. It is anything that lifts another, as well as the entire team. NEWSPAPERS PILING UP? Thankfully, locallyowned florist Posh Petal Designs is here to help! Since September 2014, owner, Brittany Tate, has been providing Farragut with beautiful floral arrangements. Ranging from bright peach orange to hot pink to deep cobalt blue, the flowers of Posh Petal seem to have an infinite color wheel. However, it takes more than color to make a great flower or bouquet. Each bloom must be tended and nurtured, an art Tate is well practiced and educated in. “The preparation is crucial,” Tate explains. “With the right amount of care you can really extend the life of the flower.” Posh Petal Designs is also eager to give back to the community any way they can. “I really want to educate the community about floral care and management,” says Tate, “I think that is an area I can really help in.” Posh Petal Designs is a company that truly enjoys the town of Farragut. When asked why she chose Farragut for her store, Tate exclaimed, “Because I love it here. Farragut is a great place and I believe it has a lot of potential to grow.” Meanwhile, Posh Petal Designs is working hard at growing their business. A recent graduate of Mississippi State with a degree in Horticulture and concentration in Retail Floristry Management, Tate’s passion is evident, the perfect trait for new and exciting approaches to flowers. Whether composing something for a bride or a studio event, Tate constantly tries to take traditional floral arrangements and give them a fresh twist. Her store, located at 11414 Kingston Pike, is also filled with unique and locally sourced home goods, jewelry, candles and glassware as a perfect complement to any floral gift. TSBDC Have you tried mobile marketing? by Laura Overstreet, Business Specialist, TN Small Business Development Center As of 2014, more people access the internet via their mobile device than a desktop computer. In fact, mobile phones globally outnumber people. So it makes good business sense to spend a little time developing strategies to market to your ideal client/customer via their mobile devices. It can take one month for a customer to take action after a search on their desktop computer, while 70% of mobile searches lead to action in one hour. Since Google searches are up 400% it could be a big boost to your company’s bottom line if you were there to meet them! Another interesting fact is that on average it takes 90 minutes to respond to an email and only 90 seconds to respond to a text. How are you reaching out to your customers? In the past few weeks, Google has made some big changes around how search results appear. They are now giving thumbs up to companies that have a mobile responsive website. Do a search on your phone. You will see the words, “mobile friendly” in the description and also notice that most of the results at the top of the page have those words. Coupon redemption rates are 10X higher than print ads. You may want to consider this when planning your advertising budget. Currently, companies spend less than 1% on mobile advertising. This offers a tremendous opportunity for you to get in on the initial wave! If you don’t consider a mobile friendly website and online marketing, will your competitor?
