Sweetwater #1 Celebrated District Winners
Sweetwater County School District #1 students competed in the Annual Young
Author contest. The district had 325 students from Desert View, Eastside,
Farson/Eden, Lincoln, Northpark, Overland, Pilot Butte, RSJH, RSHS, Sage, Walnut
and Westridge participate this year.
Students in grades kindergarten through twelfth had the opportunity to submit
entries in the categories of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. The district received 377
entries this year. Entries are judged using a 6+1 trait scoring rubric provided by the
state. The district recognized all participants with a Certificate of Participation and a
notepad and pencil. The district recognized first, second, and third place winners at
a celebration on February 25th in the auditorium of Rock Springs Junior High
School. First place winners were recognized with a plaque, certificate and a journal
and pen, while second and third place winners received a certificate and a journal
with a pen. First place winners go on to compete against other first place winners
from Green River School District and Holy Spirit Catholic School. These students will
be recognized at the Sweetwater County Young Author contest on April 9, 2015 in
the Rock Springs Junior High School auditorium.

The judges and I enjoy reading them and hope that the students continue to write
and be excited to write. I hope that students continue to submit entries to the Young
Author contest. The district has been focusing on improving writing scores and the
quality of submissions this year improved from previous year’s. Thank you to all of
the students, parents and teachers for continued support of the Young Author
Contest and I look forward to seeing many of these names again next year.” Tammy
