Special Awards
Hall of Fame Award, 2015
Betty Hazlett
Betty served in nearly every capacity in the Business Professionals of America
organization throughout her 40-year career. She was a local chapter advisor at
South Putnam High School. During that time, her students achieved a great deal
of success in competitive events, attending every state and national conference.
She also served as the District 7 Coordinator, Indiana CEAC Representative, and a
member of the Indiana Executive Board.
In 2002, she became the Indiana BPA State Advisor, retiring from that position in June, 2014. At the
national level, Betty served as both secretary and president of the State Association Advisory Council
(SAAC), as well as a member of multiple planning committees. She was a national Hall of Fame recipient
in 2014.
A major focus for Betty was the state officer experience. As a high school student, she herself was a state
officer in another Career/Technical Student Organization. That positive experience made her a big
proponent of CTSO’s and especially the experience of being a state officer. Her local chapter had nine
state officers during her tenure, including her daughter, Kelly. As a board member, Betty was the State
Officer Liaison for many years. So, it is no surprise that one of her most rewarding responsibilities as the
state advisor was working with the State Officer Leadership Teams.
Betty has two children, Gary and Kelly. Since retiring, she spends her time traveling and sitting on the
bleachers watching her grandchildren participate in multiple sports and activities.
Congratulations Betty!
