Jackie Gleason is best remembered for his comedy, on television in his popular series The Honeymooners, and in the Smokey and the Bandit movies. He is less well remembered for his dramatic roles, such as that of Minnesota Fats in The Hustler, for which he was nominated for an academy award. A Retrospective with Dr. Ira Epstein Ira Epstein served as professor and chairperson of the Communication Skills Department at LaGuardia Community College, CUNY, where he continues to serve as Professor Emeritus, and as an assistant professor in the School of Education at Brooklyn College, CUNY. His lectures to adults on comedy and music have been enthusiastically received and he continues to speak at synagogues, senior centers, JCCs, libraries and elderhostels and at meetings of national organizations such as The National Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah and B’nai Brith.
