OUR BUREAU
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh
Congress Committee (APCC)
vice-president Devineni Rajasekhar Nehru on Sunday came
down heavily on the ruling TDP
for promoting lift irrigation project on River Godavari at Pattiseema.
Addressing a news conference
at Andhra Rathna Bhavan here,
Nehru alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was
aware of the Central government’s plans to give just Rs 100
crore for the prestigious
Polavaram Project, which was announced as the national project.
He said that the Chief Minister
and his party had promised to
complete the project in just four
years and wondered how the government would complete the
project with meager allocation of
funds. He alleged that Chandrababu Naidu was aware of the
BJP’s plans of minimum allocation of funds.
Nehru criticised Chandrababu
Naidu for starting the Pattiseema
lift irrigation scheme with Rs
1,300 crore instead of mounting
pressure on the government to
start the work on the Polavarm
Project. He alleged that the State
was losing the Polavaram Project

Cong tells Uma to quit
Holds Minister responsible for paltry allocation
to Polavaram project in Union Budget
Vijayawada: The Congress on Sunday demanded Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao to resign following allocation
of insufficient funds for Polavaram Project in the Union Budget
2015-16.
Speaking to media persons here, the Congress spokesman,
Kolanukonda Sivaji, and City Congress chief Malladi Vishnu said
that the Minister had promised to complete Polavaram Project
in four years. This year, the Central government had allocated
just Rs 100 crore for the project. They wondered how the Minister
would complete the project as promised.
The leaders alleged that the Minister had failed to secure sufficient funds and demanded that he should quit the Cabinet owning
responsibility.
The Congress leaders also pointed an accusing finger at the
Minister for going for tenders worth Rs 16.97 crore for modernisation of Nagarjuna Sagar canal at Jaggaiahpet. They alleged that
the Minister had published the tender notice in a national English
daily to deny information for the local contractors who were close
to him. They demanded that the Minister should also withdraw
the tender notification before quitting the post and ensure that
the money was not looted.

rigation scheme. He said that the
Congress would launch Statewide agitation to get the
Polavaram project. The party
would also fight against the State
government’s plans on the Pattiseema.
He demanded that the government to withdraw the Pattiseema
project and begin efforts for the
Polavaram project.
He lamented that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had
pledged the self-respect of the
Telugu people to the BJP leadership in Delhi. He dared Chandrababu Naidu to fight for these
issues in Delhi and asserted that
the Congress and the Left parties
would support the government to
get the promises fulfilled.
Stating that the TDP was
founded by NTR to protect the
self-respect of the Telugu people,
he wondered why Chandrababu
Naidu was now begging on the
streets of Delhi.
