Addressing a news conference at Andhra Rathna Bhavan here, Nehru alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was aware of the Central government’s plans to give just Rs 100 crore for the prestigious Polavaram Project, which was announced as the national project. He said that the Chief Minister and his party had promised to complete the project in just four years and wondered how the government would complete the project with meager allocation of funds. He alleged that Chandrababu Naidu was aware of the BJP’s plans of minimum allocation of funds. Congress activists staging a protest in Vijayawada on Sunday denouncing the raw deal meted out to AP State in the Union Budget for 2015-16 Nehru criticised Chandrababu Naidu for starting the Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme with Rs 1,300 crore instead of mounting pressure on the government to start the work on the Polavarm Project. He alleged that the State was losing the Polavaram Project because of the Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme. He said that the Congress would launch State-wide agitation to get the Polavaram project. The party would also fight against the State government’s plans on the Pat- tiseema. He demanded that the government to withdraw the Pattiseema project and begin efforts for the Polavaram project. He lamented that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had pledged the self-respect of the Telugu people to the BJP leadership in Delhi. He dared Chandrababu Naidu to fight for these issues in Delhi and asserted that the Congress and the Left parties would support the government to get the promises fulfilled. Stating that the TDP was founded by NTR to protect the self-respect of the Telugu people, he wondered why Chandrababu Naidu was now begging on the streets of Delhi. The Congress leader came down heavily on the State and the Central governments for nominal fund allocations to the State in the Central budget. He said that the budget did not reflect the promises made by the Congress and the BJP to the State at the time of passing the AP Reorganisation Bill 2014. He said that the Congress would expose both the TDP and the BJP on their dual talk on promises to the State. The Central government institutions, revenue deficit to the State and the capital building, besides according special category status were to be realized, he said and added that the Congress would fight for these. City Congress president Malladi Vishnu, Krishna district Congress president Kadiyala Butchi Babu, party senior leaders N Narasimha Rao, A Srinivas Kumar, P Rajiv Ratan, Kolanukonda Sivaji, Youth Congress leader Devineni Avinash and others were present at the news conference. Earlier in the day, the Congress leaders held a protest at the Lenin Centre criticising the government for its failure to allocate due funds for the State in the Union budget. The woman was suffering with fever and severe cold and cough since a few days and consulted local doctors. When her illness was not controlled with their medicines, she consulted CMC hospital where she was confirmed having swine flu. According to sources, two more persons of Chittoor also joined Vellore CMC hospital, fearing to have contracted swine flu. The doctors said that whether they were infected with the disease can be confirmed within two days after testing their saliva samples. It was also learnt that CMC doctors informed the officials of Chittoor district medical and health department about one confirmed and two suspected cases of swine flu of Tirupati and Chittoor respectively. I S Narasalakshmi plying an auto in Visakhpatnam started learning driving two hours every day and was able to drive on the city roads within a span of 15 days, she said. In one month, Lakshmi was able to purchase an auto with the help of her relatives. “Later, it was the RTA officials, who inspected my driving and gave me licence. I received cooperation from the police and RTA officials in this regard.” “After stepping on to the roads, unlike other jobs this was not that easy especially for women, but compared to my problems, other seem to very tiny, but it was my sister and my in-laws who supported me and the support of other auto drivers made me feel quite comfortable,” she recalled. Civic chief angry over overflowing drains Directs officials to remove silt from drains OUR BUREAU Vijayawada: Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian on Sunday directed the VMC officials to prevent overflowing of road-side drains. The civic chief who inspected several localities in the city, expressed his displeasure over non-clearance of silt removed from the road-side drains. He said that the overflowing of sewage water at several places in the city was causing severe inconvenience to road users. He asked the VMC engineering officials to make proposals to construct a side-drain from Bonda Mohana Rao Road to Mother Teresa Junction and for repairs of culverts in Hotel DV Manor locality. He held sanitary officials concerned responsible for piling up of the silt. The heaps of silt should be cleared soon after its removal from drains, he directed. He also reviewed the progress of underground drainage works. Speaking to the media here on Sunday, film actor and Jana Sena leader, Pawan Kalyan should question both TDP and BJP on the injustice done to the State relating to budget, he said. He felt that the internal feud between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhaskar Reddy Chandrababu Naidu is causing heavy loss to Andhra Pradesh State. Modi, who was angry with Naidu had shown an ‘empty hand’ to the State in the budget, he added. Bhaskar Reddy criticised that Naidu couldn’t even got back the flight charges. Earlier the Congress had cheated the public and now it is the turn of BJP, he alleged. He suggested the Telugu Desam MPs to stop boasting and do something to help the public. He criticised that both Central and State government have cheated the public in budget allocations. He suggested Naidu to pressurise the Central government for special status to the AP State.
