Issue 25 KOINONIA Your monthly source of information and inspiration March 2015 Lent is an interesting time. A time of introspection, reflection and confession. Lent is a time to get real with yourself about yourself—to get real about your need for forgiveness, healing and redemption. Lent is a time to acknowledge your need for God—to accept again God’s undeserved love and forgiveness through the life and death sacrifice of Jesus. When we “really get real” with ourselves, Lent can be a turbulent time. Like the time of year within which it falls, Lent can be wrought with unexpected storms—storms within and without. But the end result of this season? SPRING. RESURRECTION. NEW LIFE. The Lord says, “See, I am making all things new.” (Isaiah 43:19, Revelation 21:5) What good news for those willing to take the journey! As a part of the Lenten journey this year, we are exploring the question, “WHO IS JESUS?” The sermon series during Lent and Easter is geared to help us uncover Jesus’ unique identity as revealed in His “I AM” statements recorded in the gospel of John. In the process of discovering Jesus’ true identity, we will discover what His unique identity can mean for those of us as well! Be sure to join us for an extraordinary event Sunday afternoon, March 8, 3:00-5:00 p.m. Jewish Christians, Chaim and Kim Goldman, will share “By the Blood of the Lamb”—an exciting teaching on “Messiah in the Passover and the redemption of our Christian identity.” Check out their website for more information: http://www.repairingthebreach.global/events. Consider joining us for an optional time of praise and worship with guest musician, Matthew Hall, from 2:30-3:00 p.m. prior to the teaching. Childcare for infants - 5th grade by reservation only, limited to first 40 registrants at $5/child, with a special movie and activities for ages 3 yrs - 5th grade. You can register on our website at www.rhcconline.org in the Events area on the Home Page. God has so much He wants us to understand about WHO He is—and about who we are and WHOSE we are. This Lenten season may just be the beginning of a whole new identity for you….as the treasured and BELOVED CHILD of the MOST HIGH KING. Joyfully HIS and Yours, Pastor Gayle STARTING POINT CLASS SUNDAY, MARCH 1 EMMAUS GATHERING SATURDAY, MARCH 7 We consider it a privilege to have you worship with us. Our newly commissioned Stephen Ministers have received a care receiver and will begin the actual work of Stephen Ministry. They will make their initial contact to arrange their first caring visit and begin walking beside someone who is hurting and needs a listening ear. A Stephen Ministry caring relationship could be shortterm lasting for several months or it could last for a year or more. This also begins the second phase of Stephen Ministry, which is to provide the best Christian care giving possible. Jesus is the cure giver; but we must do our part in this process by continuing our training, attending peer group supervision meetings to sharpen our focus and by continually looking inward and maintain our focus on Christ. We will keep you advised of our progress. Please continue to pray for Stephen Ministry as we become part of the healing, loving body of Christ at River Hills Community Church. KENYA ORPHANAGE PROJECT Maureen started college in January this year. She is pursuing a diploma (two years) in primary teaching. RHCC provided the money needed to purchase a laptop that is required by Kenyatta University. Maureen is one of the original children rescued from the slums in 2003.
