For a plane this size, it weighs only 2 lbs.11oz. Talk about form follows function! Thanks for sharing it with us Jim! We hope to see it at the Electric Fly-in / Wounded Warrior Project benefit this summer, August 29th 2015! Tom Hartman’s OK “CUB” CO2 engine Tom Hartman “Engine Collector Extraordinaire”, brought in his OK “Cub” CO2 engine for the club meeting show and tell. He related that the cylinder fins on the engine are for attracting heat. This will keep the cylinder from freezingup while running. It is quite the rarity to see these engines anymore. Thanks for bringing it in Tom! Show and Tell Jim Merriman (R) with his electric Addiction X Tom Hartman Jim Merriman brought in his electric Addiction X airplane for the meeting show and tell. Jim related that you can tell this plane was designed by an aeronautical engineer. If you look closely at the airframe internal structure, just about 5 Dave McDonley (R) talking about his electric T6 Texan Dave McDonley brought in his T6 Texan for show and tell. The Texan took Dave two days to assemble. Monokote was used to cover it which was also with the kit. Nine gram Tower Hobbies pro servos are used throughout. It has a 2212 brushless motor. And, it uses a 3 cell Lipo for go juice. It was an easy plane to assemble because of the laser cut parts that interlock. The kit is made from Nick Ziroli's plans. This plane is also for sale in the Buy, Sell or Trade section of this newsletter. Check it out. You could be the proud owner of an electric T6 Texan and also be flying it at the Electric Fly-in / Wounded Warrior Project benefit this summer, August 29th 2015! Thanks for sharing it with us Dave! WINGTIPS EDITORS NOTE: Please be sure to use your own modeling experience and "good ol' common sense" when trying these tips. IRONING MONOKOTE INTO TIGHT PLACES Having a lot of trouble ironing Monokote into cockpits and other small places where a standard iron will not fit? You can buy a tiny iron called a “trim sealing tool”. This will work in most cases with its selection of interchangeable tips. Another solution that may help is a butter knife. Heat it on your iron for about 30 seconds and use it like an iron. It could also be heated with a heat gun, but it takes a bit longer. Heat is transferred a lot better by contact with the metal iron. The knife will fit into tiny spaces where an iron won’t and it will reach a lot farther than the trim irons that you find in the hobby store. You can try the same trick with a spoon for ironing fillets and other concave surfaces. Spoons have to be heated with a heat gun rather than an iron, usually. want to find out if paint is compatible you can try it on one of the scraps first. The same goes for any building technique you have never used before. Unless it's something you are confident that you can do properly the first time then practice on something other than your model. PERFECT PLANS? Don't assume the building plans are perfect. Paper expands and contracts with the weather. Lines may not be straight and may not be spaced correctly. It's probably less likely that two symmetrical drawings (such as wings) are not drawn the same. Even with the advent of CAD drawn plans, it’s still a possibility.
