Director of Missions
Thoughts from the Director of Missions
Alton Hooper Offering
For the past few years we have asked the churches to take up a special offering for
the work of the Association in January. This year we are making some changes to the
offering. The first thing you may notice is that we are asking you to take up the offering in May
(If you have already taken an offering this year, “Thank you.”). This coincides with the national
Baptist Associations Appreciation Week. The other change is that we are now calling this the
Alton Hooper Offering for the Association.
We decided to name the offering in memory of Alton Hooper to honor his faithful service to
the churches in Jackson County from 1958 until his death in 1967. Many who come to my office
often tell me their fond memories of Alton. I enjoy the stories of how he came to know the Lord
and was transformed from an alcoholic to a sold out child of God. I am inspired by accounts of
how he was so dedicated to the churches. Helping them with Vacation Bible Schools, January
Bible Studies, training events and in many other ways. Each person that shares of their memories
of Alton goes away with a smile on their face because of the positive impact he had on them and
their churches.
I do truly love to hear about how Alton, and the other Directors before me, helped the
churches, so I am asking you to share with me some of your memories of how they helped you
and your church through their ministries. I love to hear how God has worked in the past through
the Association.
2015 Associational Missions Opportunities
The missions committee is proud to offer the following missions opportunities for the churches of
the Association this year.
Jerusalem (Jackson County) Operation Inasmuch - May 2015 - A one day missions/ service blitz in the community for each
church.
Migrant ministry - Fall 2015 - share Jesus with those working in our area through food, fellowship
and the Word of God.
Judea & Samaria (regional and national)
Kentucky Raceway Ministry - July 9-11 - We are judging interest in a trip to Kentucky Raceway
for a 2-3 day trip to serve in the campgrounds during the races. Please let Gerald know ASAP if
you are interested.
Vermont Missions - date TBD - This will be a weeklong trip to the least churched state in the US
(only 43 baptist churches and ~4% Christians). We hope to have two teams, one construction and
one VBS/praywalking. Please let Gerald know ASAP if you are interested.
Book Link - Eubank KY - TBD - A two day trip to pack and sort materials.
Uttermost (International) Romania - summer 2016 - We are judging interest in a 10 day trip to Romania to do VBS and
related work. Please let Gerald know ASAP if you are interested.

SWARM Needs Help
To Feed Volunteers
Southwest Area Resort Ministries
(SWARM) will be hosting 80 WMU
members the week of July 1117. SWARM is in need of churches
that would be willing to feed the

donations to help offset the cost of
food.
Thank You
On behalf of our family and us, we would like to
thank the Tuckaseigee Baptist Association for
the confidence you have placed in us by

Week of Prayer for North American Missions and
Annie Armstrong Easter Offering
March 1-8, 2015
The 2015 Annie Armstrong Easter Offering® is named
after Annie Armstrong who was the first corresponding
secretary for the Woman's Missionary Union (WMU). This
annual offering celebrates Annie Armstrong's life and legacy-one that centered around encouraging and stirring up others to
support and be involved in missions endeavors.
She wrote over 18,000 letters in one year to spur on giving
towards missions. Her love to reach the lost did not stop there.
Annie Armstrong also worked diligently in her community to
reach out to those around her through a kind word, giving a
hug, or handing out clothing. The offering is given to
missionaries serving in North America through the North
American Mission Board (NAMB).
2015 DISASTER RELIEF TRAINING
May 15-16, 2015
Haywood County
The 2015 NC Baptist Men Disaster Relief
Training will be available for interested
individuals on May 15-16. This training is
available to all believers who have a passion to
serve others. Training is available in the areas of:
Chaplaincy;
Cleanup
and
Recovery;
Communications; Child Care; Mass Feeding;
Medical; and Shower/Laundry. Our association
is especially in need of volunteers who are
willing to be part of a Mass Feeding team.
Certification is given for a period of three years.
The Friday evening and Saturday morning/
early afternoon training will be offered by Region
9 in Haywood Co. with the exact location to be
given closer to the training event. Individuals will
be housed overnight in a church setting. The exact
location is intentionally not given until close to the
training date to demonstrate that disaster response
requires patience and flexibility.
Upon completion of certification training,
individuals are presented with a picture id, yellow
t-shirt and cap and are placed on a list of
individuals available for call-up when a disaster
event occurs.
Volunteers in our association have assisted
most recently with Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane
Ike (2008) and Hurricane Sandy (2012-present
work continues).
For information on training registration or
questions about service, please see the NC Baptist
Men website: www.ncbaptistmen.org
