PROFILE OF SISTER CARRIE GLOVER
Carrie Harris Glover was born in Newport News, Virginia, the fourth child of the late
Robert & Effie Harris. She accepted Christ at a very early age and has worked in the church all
her life. She received her formal education in the Virginia public schools. After relocating to
Philadelphia she received certificates for further studies at Villanova University, University of
Georgia and Philadelphia Community College.
Sister Glover was received into the membership of the White Rock Baptist Church in 1944,
under the leadership of the late Rev. W. C. Williamson and continued to serve under the
leadership of Rev. Dr. William J. Shaw.

For several years while president of the Women’s Mission Union, Mrs. Glover implemented a
project to transport residents of homeless shelters to White Rock Baptist Church for fellowship
and Thanksgiving dinner. She also coordinated Christmas parties and distribution of toys to
children whose mothers were incarcerated.
Carrie was married for 65 years to the late Herman Glover. She was the mother of four children,
grandmother of six and great-grandmother of eight.
Mrs. Glover was the recipient of numerous religious, civic and fraternal certificates, citations and
awards. Her life was richly blessed with the love of family, friends and her church family. You
could find her serving wherever there was a need, with her motto, “to God be the Glory.” Sister
Glover declared that she did not serve for recognition, but in deep appreciation of the supreme
sacrifice made by our Savior on her behalf. Her favorite song was “Order My Steps.”
