We encourage you to participate in daily Mass during Lent. 6:45 am ~ St. John’s in New Hartford 7:30 am ~ Our Lady of the Rosary 8:00 am ~ Our Lady of Lourdes 9:00 am ~ St. John’s in New Hartford Fasting Almsgiving Prayer We aren't just spiritual beings. We are also physical entities, and the way to the soul is through the body. That is why Lenten discipline has historically centered around fasting, almsgiving and prayer. Fasting is not just a spiritual diet. By denying our bodies, our physical hunger reminds us of the hunger of our souls for God and our longing for a deeper relationship with Our Lord. Almsgiving teaches us to separate ourselves from material possessions. By freely giving of our money and possessions, we learn to trust the Lord more deeply for our own daily needs. Prayer during Lent is a way to stir up our love and ardor by having a deepening conversation with God. Remember the light of God's love shines more brightly in the darkness of the recognition of our own sinfulness. ~ taken from Our Sunday Visitor's 'Lent Keep it Simple' Lenten Lunches Join Christians from other denominations for soup, sandwiches & conversation. Listen to an ecumenical discussion related to the meaning of Lent. This week we pray for people who struggle to feed their families during the hungry season - when food is in short supply - and we commit to acting for the common good. We cannot change the past, but we can change our attitude toward it. Uproot guilt and plant forgiveness. Tear out arrogance and seed humility. Exchange love for hate thereby, making the present comfortable and the future promising. ~ Maya Angelou page 4 CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF LOURDES, UTICA, N.Y.
