Griffin Choral Arts Presents
“MASTERWORKS: MOZART’S REQUIEM”
The Griffin Choral Arts community chorus, under the direction of Dr. Stephen J. Mulder, will present “MASTERWORKS:
MOZART’S REQUIEM” on Thursday, March 12, at 7:30 PM at The Griffin Auditorium (234 E. Taylor St). This concert
features Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem Mass in D Minor, one of Mozart’s most performed and popular but also
mysterious works.
The Mozart Requiem became popular most recently in 1984 through its prominence in the plot line of the Oscar-winning
film Amadeus. While the film features only isolated excerpts from the Requiem, the GCA concert will be an excellent
opportunity to hear this masterpiece in its entirety.
The performance will include an orchestra consisting of top-flight Atlanta-area professional instrumentalists and vocal
soloists. The timing of the performance during the Christian season of Lent will add further appeal. Program notes will
also be available at the GCA website prior to the date of the performance.
Tickets are $15 general admission (all ages) at the door or in advance in Griffin at Artistic Flowers and Gifts, Safehouse
Coffee Roasters, and First United Methodist Church, in Barnesville at Goggans Florist, and in Zebulon at A Novel
Experience bookstore.
Griffin Choral Arts is a 50-voice, auditioned community choir known for its innovative and diverse programming. The
mission of Griffin Choral Arts is to bring “the best choral music to the community.”

Leadership Lamar 2015!
Dear Members, Friends, and Past Leadership Lamar Graduates:
We are proud to announce that we will sponsor and hold the next Leadership Lamar class beginning in the summer of
2015! Leadership Lamar has proven to be a very successful opportunity to mold current and future leaders in our
community. Many of our graduates from Leadership Lamar currently serve in our community in some way, whether
they sit on the board for our Chamber of Commerce, are members of County Boards, serve as County Commissioners,
or serve our community in other ways. We are very excited about this program and hope that you see the level of
importance of this class and support the need to continue to offer such a program.
In the next few pages of this newsletter, you will find the nomination form for Leadership Lamar. Please consider the
following:
Do you know of a co-worker, professional associate, leader in your church or civic organization that you feel will
benefit from this leadership program?
Do you have an employee that you wish to sponsor in this leadership program?
Would you or your business be willing to sponsor a student in this leadership program?
There will be candidates that would like to go through the program that may not financially be able to pay the
$150—would you be willing to sponsor such a candidate?
Please take a moment to complete the nomination form on the next few pages with anyone that you wish to nominate
as an upcoming leader in our community that may benefit from this program. Also, please note the form where
indicated if you wish to sponsor a candidate that is unable to attend due to the financial commitment.
Thank you for your time and consideration! We appreciate your input!
Best Regards,
Carman Templeton

Get Ready for an Evening of Trop-Rock for a Good Cause at Gordon State College!
Enjoy an evening of “trop-rock” for a great cause at the Gordon State College Founder’s Day Concert
and Scholarship Fundraiser featuring the Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band, A1A! The event is Saturday, March
21 at the Student Activity and Recreation Center on campus. Doors open at 5:30 and the music starts at
7:30 p.m.
Since 1992 Jeff Pike and A1A have been internationally recognized as The Official and Original Jimmy
Buffett Tribute Show. The band also holds the crown as being the first and only Tribute Show ever
sanctioned by Jimmy Buffett himself. “We are so excited to have A1A for this year’s Founder’s Day
Celebration,” said Rhonda Toon, executive director of the Gordon State College Foundation. “They have
quite a following in the area, and the show they present will bring a little bit of the tropics, and a lot of
fun, to our campus as we raise money for our Founder’s Day Scholarship.”
Tickets for the event are $30 each for general admission and $100 each for VIP tickets. VIP tickets
feature a pre-show cocktail hour, special seating and a reception with heavy hors d’oeuvres during
intermission. A portion of the price of a VIP ticket is tax-deductible. General admission tickets feature
seat-back, stadium-like seating. The General admission ticket holders can purchase non-alcoholic
beverages and concessions during the show.
“A1A’s show is engaging and thoroughly entertaining,” said Mike Davis, a Butts County resident and
A1A fan. “They play all the well-known Buffett hits and then some. It would be hard to not have a good
time.”
The event will be held in the Student Activity and Recreation Center, the newest building on Gordon’s
campus. “The SARC is spectacular and will make for a great venue for this fun show,” Toon said.
VIP tickets are available for purchase by calling (678) 359-5739. General admission tickets are
available at the Foundation’s online store at www.gordonstate.edu/foundationstore. “We anticipate
brisk tickets sales,” Toon said, “So all the ‘Parrot Heads’ out there should get their tickets in advance.”
For much more information on the band, visit the official A1A website at www.A1A-Live.com Food and
drink are not allowed to be brought into the venue. Gordon State is a tobacco-free campus. No tobacco
products, including vapor cigarettes and the like, are allowed on campus.

In a few short weeks, hundreds of shoppers will be
passing through Barnesville to participate in the annual
Peaches to the Beaches Yard Sale. This two-day event
stretches from Barnesville to the Georgia coast and for
many travelers, Barnesville is either their starting point
or ending point. The Golden Isles Parkway Association
has done a wonderful job coordinating this event with
local communities and continues to work promoting the
many tourist and historic locations along the way.
Whether you are planning to stop at one of the official
yard sale sites, or all eighteen, I can guarantee you two
things: not only will you have a great time, but you will
also meet many wonderful people.
