Logan works his magic in Grade Cricket to

In his first full season of A Grade

He finds himself in 8th position

What made Mallet’s help so

in this situation.

“There were no radical changes to my action
but just little things which is probably better
because a massive change in my action would
probably be a bad thing at this stage so he just
gave me little bits of advice and I feel when I
apply them to my bowling they help me a lot.”
As a young student studying a Bachelor of
Mineral Geo Science, Logan talked about the
ups and downs of juggling his studies and
cricket.
“I found it at the hard at the start of the season
but it’s pretty good because I do get extensions
on assignments because of cricket which is
always good.”
When asked about what goals he has for
cricket, Joel’s maturity shined as it’s clear he’s
a bloke who doesn’t get ahead of himself and
just takes it one game at a time.

Top 4 battles prove too much for Reds & Peckers
Week one of round 12 delivered some bombshells
with finals now looking even more uncertain than
last week after some shock performances.
Adelaide would fancy their chances of re-entering
the top 4 after their day 1 performance against
fourth placed West Torrens. Half Centuries from
Carl Mickan (72) and Leigh Drennan (55) weren’t
enough for the Eagles as Cameron Valente (4/45)
and Phil Neate (3/46) were too good. Jamie Barnes
(69) continued his incredible form of late whilst
Daniel Payne will resume on 44 this week as the
Buffalos chase their remaining 42 runs to win with
6 wickets in hand.
East Torrens will be up against it after Tea Tree
Gully produced by far their best bowling
performance of the year to dismiss the Reds for
146. Michael Cranmer dug deep for a 45 but the
bowling of Nick Winter (4/46) and Adam
Somerfield (3/32) was just too strong for the East
Torrens batting line up. Tea Tree Gully will resume
this week at 0/17.
Kensington have shocked the whole of the Grade
Cricket competition after defeating Woodville on
day 1. An inspired bowling spell from Elliot Opie
(5/42) and Jake Brown (3/16) saw the Peckers all
out for just 82 runs. Captain Jake Brown smashed
60 runs before declaring 20 runs ahead to have
another crack at Woodville. Jamie Panelli managed
to snare a wicket but the Peckers will resume day
two 1/33, 13 runs ahead of the Browns but with
only 9 wickets in hand to starve off an outright loss
that could potentially see the Browns being a
definite in the finals.
Also, keep an eye out for the Sturt v Glenelg match
as Sturt look to take 20 wickets to push themselves
right into finals contention. Sturt scored a
mammoth 361 runs before declaring. Cam Borgas
(97), Alex Gregory (79), Maxwell Schlicker (61*) and
James Machin (40*) were all solid with the bat. If
Sturt manage to pull off an outright victory, the
whole shape of the finals structure could become
even more difficult to understand coming into the
last round.

Southern Districts had a return to form with the bat as
they posted 274 after winning the toss against Adelaide
University. Josh Barrett and Brendan McCormack lead
the way with 86 and 83 respectively. Jack Winslade took
season best figures of 6/61 and in return Adelaide
University are 1/10 off 5 overs with English recruit Luke
Crocker not out on 6.
Adelaide University Leg Spinner Joel spoke during and
while he praised Southern Districts’ Josh Barrett, there
was one standout performer too hard to ignore. “But I
think the best performance of the day was Jack Winslade,
he took I think 6/61 and bowled really well all day.”
Session 2
Logan also remained confident his side plenty left in the
batting department despite the loss of skipper Andy
Delmont.“We’ve got a quality batting line-up, Ben Foakes
has played second XI…Lachie Oswald Jacobs has played
for Australian under 19s so we’ve got good depth and I
feel confident we can chase down the score.”
Southern Districts Malcolm Condon was relieved to see
his side do what they’ve been lacking past weeks. “We
certainly applied ourselves better, we batted longer and
deeper and it was just a better effort at applying
ourselves for the whole day.” He was also happy to snare
a very important wicket in Andy Delmont. “I was pretty
happy to get that one, he’s a quality player and has
scored a lot of runs so it was good to get that one.”
Now it’s just about doing what they do best and everyone
doing their job.“We really want to apply as much
pressure as we can, we’ve got 3 spinners in our side so
our seamers have a role this week to really contain and
keep the pressure on.

Port Adelaide face an uphill challenge in round 12 clash
against Northern Districts after being bowled out for just
91. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong for Port as
Nikolas Kartas was the highest scoring batsmen with 26.
Mitch Thomas was the main tormentor for Northern
Districts and finished up with 4/7 off 9 overs. In reply,
Northern Districts are 6/122 with Kyle Giniotis not out on
20. Port Adelaide’s Nick Benton continued his impressive
season with 3/21 off 17 overs.
Port Adelaide Senior Coach Paul Finnie didn’t mince his
words as he gave a blunt assessment of his side’s poor
batting display. “It was just full of loose shots and there
were no excuses and to coin a phrase we got what we
deserved.”
Finnie said there was only one way his side can respond to
such a horrid first day. “They need to show a bit more of
what they’re made of and show a bit more pride when they
get out there.” Port Adelaide’s form with the ball has been
their strongest point of the year, thanks to an even spread
of bowlers lead by Nick Benton who’s currently second in
overall wicket takers with 29.
When anyone takes 4/7, their captain is usually a happy
man and Northern Districts’ Chris Duval was no different
with Mitch Thomas’ effort. “He was just bowling stump to
stump sort of stuff and it swirled around a bit for us so it
was bloody good to be honest and I’m pretty happy about
it.”
With a small margin over their opponents, Duval said his
side will remain cautious when approaching the second day,
with one eye on an outright win. “I think we’ll play it a bit
by ear and see how we go but I think we should have
intentions to look that way. Whether it comes off or not so
be it, I think you have to have a crack and reward yourself
for winning on day one.”

Kensington put in one of the best bowling performances of
the season to bowl out top of the table Woodville for 86
runs. Elliot Opie didn’t forget his Weebtix and finished up
with 5/42 off 13 overs. In reply, Kensington declared at
2/106 as they look for an outright win which would
significantly improve their chances of finals. You know it’s a
bad day when none of your batters makes more than 20
and Woodville will no doubt be looking to put this one
behind them. They simply struggled to get any continuity or
momentum and have it all in front of them.
Woodville Senior Coach Sam McNally said the first day of
play was not good from start to finish. “It was pretty
ordinary, we probably got some conditions we didn’t
expect with the wickets being pretty good for batting all
year but there was a fair bit of green grass in this one but
that being said, I don’t think we had too many guys in our
top order ready to put their hands up and perform.”
Despite the disappointment, McNally talked about the
opportunity that can come from days like last Saturday.
“We had a pretty frank discussion after the days play but
where we are in the game, our goal is to bat as long as we
can and to get some confidence out of it.”
Kensington Captain Jake Brown was ecstatic when
appraising his side’s effort in the field. “The wicket had a
fair bit of grass but Opie bowled especially but I think we
just caught really well this week. I think there was 7 chances
in the slips and we took every one of them. We probably
bowled as well as we did against Port Adelaide but the
conditions were much nicer.”
With a finals spot on the line, Brown and his side are well
aware of what’s needed. “Looking at the table we have to
win outright probably to make any chance of making it so
we’ve given ourselves a chance but I reckon the wicket will
probably be a bit flatter so we got plenty of work in front of
us.”

With 4th spot on the line, Adelaide and West Torrens are
poised to reignite their duel in a winner takes all battle.
West Torrens won the toss and elected to bat, being
bowled out for 212 with Carl Mickan top scoring with a
run a ball 72. The leading wicket taker in the A Grade
competition, Cameron Valente, did what he’s done all
year as he took 4/45 in another impressive performance.
In reply, Adelaide are 4/161 with Daniel Payne not out on
44.
West Torrens Senior Coach Adam Rumbleow spoke about
how he was impressed with his side’s resilience, they’re
still remains work to do. “I think we’re probably 100 runs
short of what we’re aiming at, we struggled early, came
out only 3 down after lunch but then lost 3 for zip after
lunch so it’s left a bit of work for us.”
A good start with the bowl on Saturday is paramount and
Rumbleow is well aware of the situation the game is in.
“Getting Payne out and Cabot out early, it’ll be game on.
Glandore Oval has had quite a few games with low scores
so if we can bowl well in the first hour it should be an
interesting game.”
Adelaide Senior Coach Damian Kelly talked during the
week about how he was glad to see his side come back
from some early setbacks. “We dropped 5 catches in the
first hour, so we could’ve bowled them out a bit cheaper
so I was a bit disappointed about that but a good third
hour in the middle session when they fought back.”
Kelly also mentioned that despite the close proximity of
finals, his side is just taking everything week by week.
“The plan is just to win. If we get the win we get into the
top four, I’m not sure if there’s any benefits in going for
an outright win. If we win both of our last games we
should be in finals so we’ll just keep it simple.

Sturt’s late season form surge has continued as they
declared at 6/361 against Glenelg on day one. After winning
the toss and deciding to bat, Sturt made a terrific start with
Cameron Borgas and Alexander Gregory put on an
outstanding 115 second wicket partnership with 97 and 79
each. Glenelg endured a long day in the field with Daniel
Clarke finishing up the best bowler with figures of 3/77.
Glenelg were forced to bowl for 3 overs near the
completion of the days play and finished up at 0/7.
Sturt Captain Brad Davis said he was delighted to see some
hard work starting to pay off for his side. “The batting has
come good since Christmas time, we got off to a really good
start with Cam Borgas Alexander Gregory and other blokes
chipped in throughout the day which was really good so I
think we should be able to defend it.”
Now all he needs is another impressive performance from
his bowling department. “I think the pitch will be quite flat
so it won’t be easy to get wickets so we have to bowl lots of
pressure by bowling dot balls, not so much going out for
just the wickets.”
It was a hard fought day for the boys from Glenelg and
Cullen Bailey gave his thoughts during the week. “The
wicket is a good batting wicket and the outfield is the
quickest it’s been in the last 50 years so while 360 is a big
score, I don’t think it’s out of our reach.”
Bailey also talked about what has been an indifferent
season for a usually strong Glenelg side and the
opportunity this week brings. “We’ve had some moments
where we’ve been OK but it’s been a bit inconsistent, we’ve
got a very inexperienced bowling attack and we’ve got an
experienced batting lineup that hasn’t delivered.”
“Saturday is a really good opportunity for someone to make
a 100 and win us the game, we’ve got a couple of young
spinners and quicks so a win will be good because the
future looks bright.”

Session 1
In match of the round, it is fair to say watching paint dry
was more entertaining than the run rate at
Campbelltown Oval, with only nine boundaries hit for the
day and 163 runs scored for the loss of 10 wickets.
If it wasnt for skipper Mike Cranmer, the result for East
Torrens would have been worse, as he occupied the
crease for over 3 hours, 147 balls in a 45 run
contribution, to atleast give some respectability to the
total. Most of the top seven batters contributed time in
the middle, but lifting the run rate was a difficult strategy
due to the tight bowling of a disciplined Tea Tree Gully
outfit combined with smart field placements.
Best results with the ball were Redback Squad member
Nick Winter (4/34 off 18.4 overs) and SA Outbacks MVP
Adam Somerfield (4/32). Although Winter & Somerfield
stole the plaudits for break throughs, Brad Evans was tidy
with 1/21 along with Matt Weaver with the economical
figures of 1/13 off 14 overs, including 10 maidens.
Tea Tree Gully would seem to have the upper hand, and
will start day two 0/17, with Jack Holliday and Tim Evans
defying Leigh & Richardson for six overs before stumps.
Matt Cuconits is back at number 3 to recapture some
form, whilst the powerful middle order of Davey, “Eddie”
Borgas and Bradman Medalist contender Matt Weaver
will be hard to penetrate.
East Torrens will look to keep things tight and test the
patience of the rampaging Bulls, but the taste of securing
top spot and a likely home final for the Gullies (with one
round to go) will be enough motivation to blunt East
Torrens attack.

Five teams fighting for three spots
West Torrens v Northern Districts @henley GM Oval
5th placed West Torrens face a very tough ask if they
wish to play finals this season as they must defeat the
inform ladder leaders Northern Districts. Coming off a
thrashing from Sturt, West Torrens will be keen to make
amends. The Eagles only managed to score 113 in their
mammoth task of chasing 251 from Sturt, leaving them
138 runs behind. Northern Districts will be on a high
after a fantastic bowling effort saw them defend a low
total of 103 against a determined Southern District.
Kiara Stockley (3/10) and Hannah Perry (3/14) was the
key to some tight, relentless bowling from the Jets who
dismissed the Stingrays to win by 16 runs. Lauren Ebsary
will be looked at from the Eagles to get some runs on
the board so that Lucy Williams and Tayla Gordon can
get back to their best in what is a do or die game for
West Torrens. Whilst the Jets will look at the all-round
brilliance of an inform Hannah Perry to get them over
the line.
Sturt v Port Adelaide @ Price Memorial Oval
In a battle between 3rd and 4th, the winner can almost
guarantee themselves a spot in the finals, with the
opportunity of a home final still on the cards. Sturt will
be coming in with the momentum of a fantastic team
performance against West Torrens. The Blues hit an
impressive total of 251 off their 50 overs with Alex Price
(71) and Eliza Bartlett (63) being the key performers.
The Blues bowling attack of Megan Schutt (3/19) and
Annie O’Neil (3/24) proved too strong for the Eagles,
dismissing them for 113, a massive 138 runs behind the
required target.
Port Adelaide is coming off a loss that saw them go from
2nd place to in the danger zone at 4th place. The
Magpies were only able to score 126 runs, something
that the Kensington batters knock off quite quickly
winning by 6 wickets in the 32nd over. Sturt will look for
the same team performance as last week with key
players Alex Price, Megan Schutt and Eliza Bartlett
performing. Whilst the Magpies will be hoping that the
likes of Alicia Dean and Samantha Betts can get some
more runs on the board so Kristy Williams can work her
magic.
Southern District v Kensington @ Bice Oval
Southern District faces a do or die battle this weekend
when it takes on the reigning premiers at Bice oval this
Sunday. The Stingrays will be kicking themselves after
falling 16 runs short of the 103 runs they needed from
the ladder leaders Northern Districts. Thalia McGrath
(5/19) was pivotal in the collapse of the best team in the
competition, but the Stingrays failed to get any runs on
the board with the pressure from the Jets getting too
much for them. Kensington on the other hand will be
coming in fresh after they cruised to a 6 wicket win over
Port Adelaide. Sarah Lowe (3/23) continued her good
form to dismiss the Magpies for just 126 runs, a score
that Jordan Doecke (50*) and Jakarra Hill (36*) knocked
off with ease. For Southern District’s to get up they will
need to support Thalia McGrath who seems to be flying
solo at the moment. Kensington will be looking for early
runs from Bridget Patterson and the tight relentless
bowling from Shae Daly and Katelyn Pope to get a win
that will secure a home final for the Browns

Prince Alfred will be looking to end the regular season
with another win this week and move into the finals still
undefeated. They face a Woodville Rechabites team who
have struggled over the past couple of matches and who
will need to be at the very top of their game if they are
to challenge Prince Alfred for the win.

Round 10 saw Woodville disappoint with the bat in the
first innings and only manage to post 103 in just under 50
overs. After struggling on day one they were always
going to be fighting to avoid losing the match outright.
Their opponents, Payneham, tried to set themselves up
to take the outright win by taking on the Rechabites
bowlers and declaring at 5 for 225 after just 46 overs.
This left the Rechabites the task of surviving to the end
of day two and avoid the disappointment of the outright
loss. They were successful and after another 49 overs,
ended the match at 7 for 170.
Prince Alfred had a completely different experience in
round 10, and as usual for the ladder leaders, they were
in control of their match from the start. A five wicket
haul for Chris Wells on day one of their clash with
Pulteney left the team with only 116 to chase down for
the win. The total was never an issue for Prince Alfred
and they not only chased the target but went well passed
it. With only one player not getting to double figures,
Prince Alfred were able to make an impressive 332 from
85 overs. Jack Dent was the top scorer with 84, while
Samuel Tyler was also able to make a half century,
finishing with 62.
Unless Woodville are able to find a massive
improvement this week, Prince Alfred look as though
they will end the regular season without a loss.

But now his focus is solely on helping PAra Hills reach the
finals of a strong ATCA diviison 1 competition.
Performances by his top order, in particular the
Wordsworth brothers and Gregs son Mitchell, who all sit
from 5th to 7th on thr runs scoring list, have been the
catalyst to the surge up the ladder.
Goodwood are likley to have a tough couple of weeks at
home, although they can upset Para Hills dream season
by playing thge type of cricket that saw them cause a boil
over at Grange Oval last week.
The batting power of Para Hills is likely to be the
difference in this match up, although Muggleton &
Hooper will try to cause some early damage to put
pressure on the middle order of Para Hills.

On face value, Greg Quinn has been instrumental in
helping the players realise their talent and maximise the
ability of some star players. But like most good coaches,
Quinn has relied on his troop applying the information
that he has garnished over a steller cricket career, that
was once regarded as the undisputed best keeper in
South Australia in the late 80s early 90s.
If goodwood pinch this fixture, they will be kicking
themselves for having a slow start to the season, and
likley finishing only one win out of the top 4.

Pulteney had a tough time on day one of their round 9
clash with Woodville Rechabites, and after 80 overs
found themselves needing to chase down 368 on day
two. It was always going to be hard to chase this many
runs and Pulteney will surely be trying improve their
bowling this week and not put their batsman under so
much pressure. Pulteney were never really in the match
on day two and were bowled out in just the 32nd over
for only 134. This week gives them another chance
however, and they will be fighting to get a victory and
move away from the relegation spots at the bottom of
the ladder.
Prince Alfred remain unbeaten for the season, however
a lower score than usual will be motivating the team to
get back to form this week and keep their momentum
going into the critical end of the season. Bowling first,
Prince Alfred were able to bowl out their opponents,
Pembroke, for just 96 runs. Jack Dent starred with the
ball taking 6 wickets and giving up just 23 runs, while
Samuel Richardson was able to pick up 2 for 14 from 10
overs. Sebastian Moroney top scored for Prince Alfred in
the second innings, making 47 runs which along with 44
from Nicholas O'Loughlin, ensured the victory for Prince
Alfred.

Day
Pulteney will have a hard time this week if they are
unable to improve on their round 9 form which saw
them lose by a big margin after disappointing
performances in both batting and bowling. This week
they face the team at the top of the ladder, Prince
Alfred, who although not as convincing as previous
weeks, were still able to get a win in round 9.

Grange will be fired up after being upset at home last
week by Goodwood. This has meant they will need to
ensure they do everything right along with results falling
their way another ally to sneaking into the finals.
Payneham & Para Hills are likly to win, so playing for an
outright vicotry is also a likley tactic, but this can
sometimes back fire. The best bet is to win, and win well,
and if circumstances provide a second innings result,
then the cricket gods are smiling upon you. You never
know, Brighton has the motivation to avoid relegation,
and pAra Hills are playing away from home.
Last week, chasing a meagre total of 177, the Dolphins
never gained any momentum in their innings and lost
wickets at regular intervals, to evetually fall over for 105,
with Shane McDermott top scoring for the game with 46.
Ryan Fry has rocketed into the top 5 wicket takers,
claiming match figure of 9/56, which included a hat trick
in the second innings. Bowling certainly isnt a worry for
Grange, with mark Harrity porviding ample support for
Fry, and the dangerous medium pacers of skipper Corey
Knight.
Woodville South found themselves on the wrong side of
a rare batting disply from Pembroke OS. After trying to
set up an outright victory to avoid relegation, this
backfired, which resulted in a run chase of 280. The Cats
top order failed and the Kings all but wrapped up victory
, but the middle order chipped away to eventually finish
with 216, which most week would have won them
games of cricket.

Pooraka take on Pembroke OS at Lindbolm Park in a
game which is unlikely to have major ramifications on the
premiership ladder, with Pooraka having already
securing 2nd spot and a home semi final.
Pooraka last week made 8/379 against Brighton,
comfortably eclipsing the 146 required, with Jye Bailey
and Mark Hanson combining for a 265 run partnership,
Bailey smashing 196 and Hanson continuing to dominate
the batting charts with 93 runs of his won.
Pooraka will be strengthened by the return of captain
Matt Rogers and Paul Cree from suspension. Cree
considerably strengthens the Bulls attack, and Rogers
adds yet another class bat. Matt Travis , Chris Amundsen
and Shane Virgens will welcome Cree back to lighten the
bowling loads.
The Kings, barring some incredible results in other games
are safe in Div 1 for another season which is a
achievment in itself. Brad Portlock has had a consistent
season and values his wicket at the top of the order,
coming off 92 against Woodville South, and the Kings will
need him to produce again against the quality of
Pooraka. Tom Watson showed glimpses of his
capabilties, with a nice 41, and he will want to go out on
a high in his last game for the Kings, whilst Grant Doran
scored 70 last week and will be needed to help build a
total again.
Leg Spinner James Winnard comes back and may well be
in for a long spell of bowling, but the bulk of the eraly
damage needs to come from Jake Dinan Gilman.
Pembroke have lost Kieran Price moving to Melbourne
for work and Nick Booth has showed promising signs with
the bat. For a compettive effort against a premiership
favorite, the Kings needs a collective outcome from all
players to finish on a positive note.
Pembroke B grade neeed to win to guarantee the club
has one team involved in finals next week.

Bowling first, Payneham were able to restrict Woodville
Rechabites to just 103 from 49 overs. They then went out
to bat at the end of day one, and with a chance of an
outright win, they batted quickly and made 5 for 225 in
46 overs. This was the work of James Stagg and Josh
Farmer who made 84 and 81 respectively.
This gave their bowlers a chance of again bowling out the
Rechabites and securing an outright win. This wasn’t to
be however, and with some resistance from the
Rechabite batsman, Payneham were only able to take 7
for 170 before the match ended. After taking 4 wickets in
the first innings, Mark Barber took 3 in the second, as did
Alex Donald.
Brighton will need to improve in all aspects this week
after a big loss in round 9. Batting first they were
dismissed cheaply for just 146 in 64 overs against
Pooraka. The second day wasn’t any better and their
bowlers found it hard to take wickets and restrict the run
scoring of the Pooraka batsman.
The match ended with Brighton giving up 8 for 379 and
losing on the first innings. They will be hoping to improve
this weekend, as they sit second last on the ladder and
without a win are almost certain to finish in the bottom
two.

ATCA A2 Overview
With the final round of the regular season upon us,
there are still multiple spots in the finals still to be
decided. First up is Hope Valley who have made a
play for a finals spot with a good win against Ingle
Farm and now set their sights on winning against
Marion this week. A win for Hope Valley could mean
they get a chance at playing in the finals. Marion
showed some good form in round 9 but weren’t able
to get a win, so they will be hoping to change the
result this week with a good performance. Aiden
Wilkins took 5 wickets for Hope Valley as they
restricted Ingle Farm to just 118, while a not out 101
from Mike Watson helped Hope Valley to not only
the win but a good score of 8 for 249. Marion made
204 in the first innings of their match, but it wasn’t
enough as their opponents chased it down to finish
at 220.
of the finals. Ingle Farm failed to impress in a match
that could have cemented second spot on the
ladder for them. Batting first they were only able to
make 118 with Cameron Sandercock top scoring
with 50. They then failed to come close to
defending the total giving up 8 for 249 in 70 overs.
With 15 overs left in the match Mathew Sandery
was able to find some form, making 50 as the team
ended at 3 for 69. Rostrevor also disappointed only
able to make 110, and then giving up 210 in the first
innings. They managed to survive 36 overs and
avoid an outright loss, but will be keen to do better
this week.
After getting a win in round 9, Brahma Lodge are
now looking to make the most of this match to get
them off the bottom of the ladder and out of the
relegation spots. They play Port Districts who had a
disappointing loss in round 9 and now sit in the
group near the bottom of the ladder. Brahma
batted first in their match with Hectorville and
would not have been confident after only posting
118. However some good bowling from Jamie
Sibbick who took 4 for 13 and Chris Haydon who got
4 for 26, resulted in Brahma winning by 7 runs after
the y bowled out Hectorville for 111. Troy
Svaikauskas top scored for Port Districts with 76 in
their match as they made 160. They couldn’t
defend this total however, and the match ended at
8 for 288.
Next up is Flinders University taking on Old Scotch
and Flinders will be looking for an improvement this
week after suffering a big loss in round 9. Batting
first, Flinders were only able to make 122 before
being dismissed, with Steven McAllister top scoring
after making 57. The total was always going to be
hard to defend and that proved to be the case, with
only three wickets falling before their opponents
were able to make 260. Flinders survived the rest of
the time and finished the second innings at 9 for 166.
Old Scotch had a much better result chasing down
160 on their way to make 8 for 288 in 87 overs, Sean
MacGregor top scoring with 109 and John Clifford
making 70. If they can continue their form this week, Walkerville are assured top spot on the ladder for
they should be able to get another win for the the season and will be looking to make it through
season.

Adelaide Suburban Section 1 Overview
heat a major talking point in the suburbs
The Adelaide and Suburban Cricket association is
back playing cricket this week and we’re excited! For
the past couple of weeks the cricket has been
interrupted by the weather, and as such this
weekend was suppose to be the second day of a two
day match however the games were played as one
dayers.
This week Coromandel was defeated by Plympton
Footballers at the Hewett Sports ground. Plympton
Footballers won the toss and decided to bat first.
Over 35.4 overs they were able to make 127 runs.
This was just enough as Coromandel took to bat and
only made 105 runs. Coromandel’s C Norman made
a great effort taking 5 wickets off 8 overs.
For Plympton Footballers this win comes with vital
match points that may push them from fifth ladder
spot to fourth. With only one more game till finals
next week will sure to be a big game for them.
Next were Keswick who defeated the Western Youth
Centre at Blackwood High School. Western Youth
Centre won the toss and decided to bat first. They
were able to make 133 off 36 overs. Unfortunately
Keswick step up and smash the match in 20.2 overs!
H Mackay made 52 runs with SJ McRae who made 75
before being caught out. JE Clarke stepped in to
make the final 3 runs to win the match. Keswick are
proving their form as top of the ladder in the weeks
before the finals.
South Road defeated Cove over the weekend at
Edwardstown Oval. Cove won the toss and decided
to bat first. They made 157 off 38.5 overs. South
Road knew the chase and was able to make 159 runs
off 39.4 overs with only six wickets falling.
Von Duve made a significant contribution to the
total making 75 runs. If there was a game to show
how tight this season’s competition is, it would be
this game with South Road in fourth spot defeating
Cove who sit in second.
Next up Coromandel Ramblers defeated ICC Sharks
at Hawthorndene Oval. ICC Sharks won the toss and
decided to bat first. They made 125 off 34 overs. J
Henwood was their standout batsman making 41
runs. However, Coromandel Ramblers came out and
with only 4 wickets falling made the winning 128 off
32 overs. King was the major batsman making 94
runs, unfortunately 6 short of the century.
Finally, Morphettville Park was defeated by Sheidow
Park at Denham Reserve. Sheidow Park won the toss
and decided to bat first. They were able to make 173
off 40 overs. J Kilderry was on a great run before he
was out for a lbw and made 84 runs. Morphettville
Park took to bat knowing the effort needed to take
out the match. Unfortunately they fell short and
were only able to make 160 runs. K Brokensha was a
valuable team mate for Morphettville Park taking
out 4 wickets.
With finals one game away this weekend will be an
intense game proving the top four teams in the
competition.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER

Great Southern CA Overview
Noarlunga & McLaren Districts fight for a finals spot
The final minor round match of Great Southern
cricket got underway on Saturday after a
frustrating three week break due to matches being
cancelled because of the heat policy with some
matches being vital to the finals aspirations of the
teams involved.
220 with Farrelly being the stand out for Noarlunga
with the ball to finish with 5/46. The Shoes possess
a potent batting line up & the question will be
whether the disciplined McLaren’s bowling attack
can keep the likes of Baldey, Scarff & Parry under
control.
Rapid Bay started the round looking likely to miss
out on finals action but have thrown the cat
amongst the pigeons by totally outplaying Aldinga
& are well on track to record the outright win they
need to push in to the top six. Aldinga collapsed to
be all out for just a hundred in their first innings
before Rapid Bay chased down the total in quick
time thanks to Bennett, Williss & Ashton-Place &
declared their innings closed. Sparnon then
claimed two late wickets to have the Sharks in big
trouble at stumps still in arrears with only eight
wickets left & Rapid Bay well placed to secure an
outright victory.
Port Elliot played host to Goolwa in the local derby
& after winning the toss & batting the Bloods were
always under pressure after losing Whitbourne
early & the disciplined bowling attack for the ‘Pies
made runs very hard to come by. Clarke &
youngster Gordge battled hard for Port Elliot as
they struggled to a total of just 132 with Harry
Nissen returning the excellent figures of 4/30 for
Goolwa. Port Elliot were able to grab the key wicket
of Jake Kuss late in the day but face an uphill battle
on Saturday to not only win the game but to hold
their spot in the top six as they look to be the team
most likely to drop out.
Encounter Bay travelled to Mount Compass & after
winning the toss chose to bat first & with most of
their top order getting starts they were able to post
a very solid total of 238. Lintern & Sam Overall
were the top scorers with 44 & 46 respectively but
the Bays couldn't find anyone to go on & post a big
score while Tucker & Ritter were the pick of the
bowlers for the Bulls with three wickets apiece.
Bayliss-Adam then struck a vital blow for the Bays
removing the in-form Matty East before stumps to
leave Mount Compass at 1/12 & needing a big
effort with the bat next week.
Seaford Rise & Willunga were playing for pride on
Saturday with both teams unable to make finals &
with the Sea Eagles choosing to bat first they were
dismissed for just 99 with youngster Hanson top
scoring with a well made 30 while Franceschini was
