Michael Cranmer dug deep for a 45 but the bowling of Nick Winter (4/46) and Adam Somerfield (3/32) was just too strong for the East Torrens batting line up. Tea Tree Gully will resume this week at 0/17. Kensington have shocked the whole of the Grade Cricket competition after defeating Woodville on day 1. An inspired bowling spell from Elliot Opie (5/42) and Jake Brown (3/16) saw the Peckers all out for just 82 runs. Captain Jake Brown smashed 60 runs before declaring 20 runs ahead to have another crack at Woodville. Jamie Panelli managed to snare a wicket but the Peckers will resume day two 1/33, 13 runs ahead of the Browns but with only 9 wickets in hand to starve off an outright loss that could potentially see the Browns being a definite in the finals. Also, keep an eye out for the Sturt v Glenelg match as Sturt look to take 20 wickets to push themselves right into finals contention. Sturt scored a mammoth 361 runs before declaring. I think there was 7 chances in the slips and we took every one of them. Glandore Oval has had quite a few games with low scores so if we can bowl well in the first hour it should be an interesting game.” Adelaide Senior Coach Damian Kelly talked during the week about how he was glad to see his side come back from some early setbacks. “We dropped 5 catches in the first hour, so we could’ve bowled them out a bit cheaper so I was a bit disappointed about that but a good third hour in the middle session when they fought back.” Kelly also mentioned that despite the close proximity of finals, his side is just taking everything week by week. “The plan is just to win. If we get the win we get into the top four, I’m not sure if there’s any benefits in going for an outright win. If we win both of our last games we should be in finals so we’ll just keep it simple. Glenelg endured a long day in the field with Daniel Clarke finishing up the best bowler with figures of 3/77. Glenelg were forced to bowl for 3 overs near the completion of the days play and finished up at 0/7. If it wasnt for skipper Mike Cranmer, the result for East Torrens would have been worse, as he occupied the crease for over 3 hours, 147 balls in a 45 run contribution, to atleast give some respectability to the total. Most of the top seven batters contributed time in the middle, but lifting the run rate was a difficult strategy due to the tight bowling of a disciplined Tea Tree Gully outfit combined with smart field placements. Best results with the ball were Redback Squad member Nick Winter (4/34 off 18.4 overs) and SA Outbacks MVP Adam Somerfield (4/32). Although Winter & Somerfield stole the plaudits for break throughs, Brad Evans was tidy with 1/21 along with Matt Weaver with the economical figures of 1/13 off 14 overs, including 10 maidens. Tea Tree Gully would seem to have the upper hand, and will start day two 0/17, with Jack Holliday and Tim Evans defying Leigh & Richardson for six overs before stumps. Matt Cuconits is back at number 3 to recapture some form, whilst the powerful middle order of Davey, “Eddie” Borgas and Bradman Medalist contender Matt Weaver will be hard to penetrate. East Torrens will look to keep things tight and test the patience of the rampaging Bulls, but the taste of securing top spot and a likely home final for the Gullies (with one round to go) will be enough motivation to blunt East Torrens attack. Coming off a thrashing from Sturt, West Torrens will be keen to make amends. The Eagles only managed to score 113 in their mammoth task of chasing 251 from Sturt, leaving them 138 runs behind. Northern Districts will be on a high after a fantastic bowling effort saw them defend a low total of 103 against a determined Southern District. Kiara Stockley (3/10) and Hannah Perry (3/14) was the key to some tight, relentless bowling from the Jets who dismissed the Stingrays to win by 16 runs. Sturt v Port Adelaide @ Price Memorial Oval In a battle between 3rd and 4th, the winner can almost guarantee themselves a spot in the finals, with the opportunity of a home final still on the cards. Sturt will be coming in with the momentum of a fantastic team performance against West Torrens. The Blues hit an impressive total of 251 off their 50 overs with Alex Price (71) and Eliza Bartlett (63) being the key performers. The Blues bowling attack of Megan Schutt (3/19) and Annie O’Neil (3/24) proved too strong for the Eagles, dismissing them for 113, a massive 138 runs behind the required target. Port Adelaide is coming off a loss that saw them go from 2nd place to in the danger zone at 4th place. The Magpies were only able to score 126 runs, something that the Kensington batters knock off quite quickly winning by 6 wickets in the 32nd over. After struggling on day one they were always going to be fighting to avoid losing the match outright. Their opponents, Payneham, tried to set themselves up to take the outright win by taking on the Rechabites bowlers and declaring at 5 for 225 after just 46 overs. This left the Rechabites the task of surviving to the end of day two and avoid the disappointment of the outright loss. They were successful and after another 49 overs, ended the match at 7 for 170. Prince Alfred had a completely different experience in round 10, and as usual for the ladder leaders, they were in control of their match from the start. A five wicket haul for Chris Wells on day one of their clash with Pulteney left the team with only 116 to chase down for the win. The total was never an issue for Prince Alfred and they not only chased the target but went well passed it. With only one player not getting to double figures, Prince Alfred were able to make an impressive 332 from 85 overs. Jack Dent was the top scorer with 84, while Samuel Tyler was also able to make a half century, finishing with 62. Unless Woodville are able to find a massive improvement this week, Prince Alfred look as though they will end the regular season without a loss. Pulteney were never really in the match on day two and were bowled out in just the 32nd over for only 134. This week gives them another chance however, and they will be fighting to get a victory and move away from the relegation spots at the bottom of the ladder. Prince Alfred remain unbeaten for the season, however a lower score than usual will be motivating the team to get back to form this week and keep their momentum going into the critical end of the season. Bowling first, Prince Alfred were able to bowl out their opponents, Pembroke, for just 96 runs. Pooraka last week made 8/379 against Brighton, comfortably eclipsing the 146 required, with Jye Bailey and Mark Hanson combining for a 265 run partnership, Bailey smashing 196 and Hanson continuing to dominate the batting charts with 93 runs of his won. Pooraka will be strengthened by the return of captain Matt Rogers and Paul Cree from suspension. Cree considerably strengthens the Bulls attack, and Rogers adds yet another class bat. Matt Travis , Chris Amundsen and Shane Virgens will welcome Cree back to lighten the bowling loads. The Kings, barring some incredible results in other games are safe in Div 1 for another season which is a achievment in itself. Brad Portlock has had a consistent season and values his wicket at the top of the order, coming off 92 against Woodville South, and the Kings will need him to produce again against the quality of Pooraka. Tom Watson showed glimpses of his capabilties, with a nice 41, and he will want to go out on a high in his last game for the Kings, whilst Grant Doran scored 70 last week and will be needed to help build a total again. Leg Spinner James Winnard comes back and may well be in for a long spell of bowling, but the bulk of the eraly damage needs to come from Jake Dinan Gilman. Pembroke have lost Kieran Price moving to Melbourne for work and Nick Booth has showed promising signs with the bat. For a compettive effort against a premiership favorite, the Kings needs a collective outcome from all players to finish on a positive note. First up is Hope Valley who have made a play for a finals spot with a good win against Ingle Farm and now set their sights on winning against Marion this week. A win for Hope Valley could mean they get a chance at playing in the finals. Marion showed some good form in round 9 but weren’t able to get a win, so they will be hoping to change the result this week with a good performance. Aiden Wilkins took 5 wickets for Hope Valley as they restricted Ingle Farm to just 118, while a not out 101 from Mike Watson helped Hope Valley to not only the win but a good score of 8 for 249. Marion made 204 in the first innings of their match, but it wasn’t enough as their opponents chased it down to finish at 220. of the finals. Ingle Farm failed to impress in a match that could have cemented second spot on the ladder for them. Batting first they were only able to make 118 with Cameron Sandercock top scoring with 50. They then failed to come close to defending the total giving up 8 for 249 in 70 overs. With 15 overs left in the match Mathew Sandery was able to find some form, making 50 as the team ended at 3 for 69. Rostrevor also disappointed only able to make 110, and then giving up 210 in the first innings. They managed to survive 36 overs and avoid an outright loss, but will be keen to do better this week. After getting a win in round 9, Brahma Lodge are now looking to make the most of this match to get them off the bottom of the ladder and out of the relegation spots. They play Port Districts who had a disappointing loss in round 9 and now sit in the group near the bottom of the ladder. Brahma batted first in their match with Hectorville and would not have been confident after only posting 118. However some good bowling from Jamie Sibbick who took 4 for 13 and Chris Haydon who got 4 for 26, resulted in Brahma winning by 7 runs after the y bowled out Hectorville for 111. Troy Svaikauskas top scored for Port Districts with 76 in their match as they made 160. They couldn’t defend this total however, and the match ended at 8 for 288. Next up is Flinders University taking on Old Scotch and Flinders will be looking for an improvement this week after suffering a big loss in round 9. Batting first, Flinders were only able to make 122 before being dismissed, with Steven McAllister top scoring after making 57. The total was always going to be hard to defend and that proved to be the case, with only three wickets falling before their opponents were able to make 260. Flinders survived the rest of the time and finished the second innings at 9 for 166. For the past couple of weeks the cricket has been interrupted by the weather, and as such this weekend was suppose to be the second day of a two day match however the games were played as one dayers. This week Coromandel was defeated by Plympton Footballers at the Hewett Sports ground. Plympton Footballers won the toss and decided to bat first. Over 35.4 overs they were able to make 127 runs. This was just enough as Coromandel took to bat and only made 105 runs. Coromandel’s C Norman made a great effort taking 5 wickets off 8 overs. For Plympton Footballers this win comes with vital match points that may push them from fifth ladder spot to fourth. With only one more game till finals next week will sure to be a big game for them. Next were Keswick who defeated the Western Youth Centre at Blackwood High School. Western Youth Centre won the toss and decided to bat first. They were able to make 133 off 36 overs. Unfortunately Keswick step up and smash the match in 20.2 overs! H Mackay made 52 runs with SJ McRae who made 75 before being caught out. JE Clarke stepped in to make the final 3 runs to win the match. Keswick are proving their form as top of the ladder in the weeks before the finals. South Road defeated Cove over the weekend at Edwardstown Oval. Cove won the toss and decided to bat first. They made 157 off 38.5 overs. South Road knew the chase and was able to make 159 runs off 39.4 overs with only six wickets falling. Von Duve made a significant contribution to the total making 75 runs. If there was a game to show how tight this season’s competition is, it would be this game with South Road in fourth spot defeating Cove who sit in second. Next up Coromandel Ramblers defeated ICC Sharks at Hawthorndene Oval. ICC Sharks won the toss and decided to bat first. They made 125 off 34 overs. J Henwood was their standout batsman making 41 runs. However, Coromandel Ramblers came out and with only 4 wickets falling made the winning 128 off 32 overs. King was the major batsman making 94 runs, unfortunately 6 short of the century. Finally, Morphettville Park was defeated by Sheidow Park at Denham Reserve. Sheidow Park won the toss and decided to bat first. They were able to make 173 off 40 overs. J Kilderry was on a great run before he was out for a lbw and made 84 runs. Morphettville Park took to bat knowing the effort needed to take out the match. Unfortunately they fell short and were only able to make 160 runs. K Brokensha was a valuable team mate for Morphettville Park taking out 4 wickets. With finals one game away this weekend will be an intense game proving the top four teams in the competition. The Shoes possess a potent batting line up & the question will be whether the disciplined McLaren’s bowling attack can keep the likes of Baldey, Scarff & Parry under control. Rapid Bay started the round looking likely to miss out on finals action but have thrown the cat amongst the pigeons by totally outplaying Aldinga & are well on track to record the outright win they need to push in to the top six. Aldinga collapsed to be all out for just a hundred in their first innings before Rapid Bay chased down the total in quick time thanks to Bennett, Williss & Ashton-Place & declared their innings closed. Sparnon then claimed two late wickets to have the Sharks in big trouble at stumps still in arrears with only eight wickets left & Rapid Bay well placed to secure an outright victory. Port Elliot played host to Goolwa in the local derby & after winning the toss & batting the Bloods were always under pressure after losing Whitbourne early & the disciplined bowling attack for the ‘Pies made runs very hard to come by. Clarke & youngster Gordge battled hard for Port Elliot as they struggled to a total of just 132 with Harry Nissen returning the excellent figures of 4/30 for Goolwa. Port Elliot were able to grab the key wicket of Jake Kuss late in the day but face an uphill battle on Saturday to not only win the game but to hold their spot in the top six as they look to be the team most likely to drop out. Encounter Bay travelled to Mount Compass & after winning the toss chose to bat first & with most of their top order getting starts they were able to post a very solid total of 238. Lintern & Sam Overall were the top scorers with 44 & 46 respectively but the Bays couldn't find anyone to go on & post a big score while Tucker & Ritter were the pick of the bowlers for the Bulls with three wickets apiece. Bayliss-Adam then struck a vital blow for the Bays removing the in-form Matty East before stumps to leave Mount Compass at 1/12 & needing a big effort with the bat next week. Seaford Rise & Willunga were playing for pride on Saturday with both teams unable to make finals & with the Sea Eagles choosing to bat first they were dismissed for just 99 with youngster Hanson top scoring with a well made 30 while Franceschini was the leading wicket taker for the Demons finishing with 3/30. In reply Willunga made short work of the run chase using just 17 overs with Franceschini completing a good day out to top score with 57 while Wagner picked up three wickets for Seaford Rise & with a result achieved both teams agreed to call an early finish to their season.
