Back to the top On Campus Opportunities Public Service Scholar Program Guidelines Deadline: Tuesday, March 10, 2015 Application Process: Submit the 2015 application form with short essays on your interest in public service. Complete applications must include transcripts from ALL colleges you have attended and two (2) written recommendations, one from a Hunter College faculty member and one other professional or academic reference. A select group of applicants will be invited to interview with the director. Final selections will be made after the interview process. The program includes: A 20-hour per week placement in a public or non-profit agency or elected official’s office for the full academic year Two weekly seminars on public policy, advocacy and social and political matters relevant to New York City 12 credits in Urban Studies toward an undergraduate degree A stipend Eligibility: All Hunter College juniors and seniors, regardless of major Be within 45 credits of graduation (a upper junior or lower senior) when you start the program Be enrolled as a student for the full academic year of the program Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 Submit two recommendations, at least one from a Hunter College faculty member Participants are selected based on their motivation, leadership potential, maturity level, academic performance, communication skills and demonstrated interest in public service. Back to the top Off Campus Opportunities Research Associate Internship – NYU/Bellevue Deadline: Wednesday, April 1, 2015 The Research Associate (RA) Internship is an innovative volunteer program for enthusiastic and inspired college and postbaccalaureate students. Created by the Bellevue Hospital Center Emergency Department, the RA Internship allows students an opportunity to experience and observe many different aspects of clinical research. The program is comprised of clinical research shifts based in the Emergency Department. It offers the committed student a unique experience, which is intended to furnish a wealth of knowledge about the numerous options for a career in healthcare. This six month (minimum) unpaid research internship will expose participants to a diverse spectrum of clinical and non-clinical based research investigations being pursued at the Emergency Department at NYU/Bellevue. Students will be allocated with a specific grant or research effort under mentorship of the PI/Co-PI or Project Manager to support long term research. This experience will allow the student to develop basic research skills. The student will be provided with a basic research course, be oriented to the Institutional Review Board and other Human Subjects courses, and be exposed to new and innovative research to fulfill and help meet the respective project's deliverables. RA Internship participants will work within the Emergency Department setting to support data collection, data entry, organizing paperwork, and helping to create and maintain databases. Back to the top NYU-CUNY CRC SIP Internship Opportunity NYU Prevention Research Center The NYU School of Medicine - City University of New York School of Public Health Prevention Research Center (NYU-CUNY PRC) is an innovative public-private partnership between the NYU School of Medicine Department of Population Health and the CUNY School of Public Health (SPH) Epidemiology and Biostatistics Program. The goal of the Understanding the Barriers and Facilitators to Colorectal Cancer Screening among South Asian Immigrants in NYC is to use mixed methods research to explore barriers and facilitators to screening among South Asians, and the principles of social marketing to develop culturally tailored messaging to promote screening. We are looking for bright, motivated individuals to help us conduct community-based surveys and focus groups in diverse South Asian communities in New York City.
