Private lunch dining on the third floor of
McCutchen House is offered to any group of
8–12 persons. Whether it’s a group of friends or
a business meeting, you will experience a unique
boardroom-style setting. Minimum of eight

Private Functions
Do you have an upcoming event which requires
a special touch? McCutchen House, with its
four spacious dining rooms, has the capacity to
seat 150 guests or standing room for 250 guests.
The house may be rented out in its entirety or
by individual room. Booking options are also
available for the 2,400-square-foot garden,
equipped with a Bose sound system which is
iPad, iPhone and MP3 compatible, making it
the perfect outdoor venue for presentations,

Catered Events
Carolina Catering is the official caterer for
private events at McCutchen House and
offers a full range of services including food,
event planning, trimmings, linens, china and
flowers. The catering staff will work with you
to coordinate a unique fare off of their popular
and successful menus or tailor a menu to fit
your particular needs and budget. To book

McCutchen House
Signature Tomato Pie
INGREDIENTS
Shells:
12 medium sized tart shells, or 24 mini tart shells
(this recipe does not work well for a 9”Pie shell)
Sweet tart shells work best but can be difficult to
find.
Filling:
16 ounce can of diced tomatoes, drained very well
1/2 cupred onion, finely diced
5 sprigsfresh basil, diced
Mix well.
Topping:
2 cups mayonnaise
½ cup sour cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Mix well.
DIRECTIONS
Place 2 tablespoons of tomato filling in each tart
shell cover the bottom well.
Place 2 tablespoons of the mayonnaise topping
and smooth to cover the filling.
Bake in a 350° pre-heated oven for approximately
15 minutes until golden brown.

Indoor seating is available. Closed during
inclement weather. No reservations are required
for parties smaller than 15 persons.
Evening Dining and
Specialty Courses
Located on the historic University of South Carolina
Horseshoe, McCutchen House was built in 1813 as
the second faculty residence on the South Carolina
College campus. Professor George McCutchen, for
whom the building is named, lived in the house with
his family from 1915 until World War II. Extensively
renovated in the 1970s, the building housed a private
dining club for faculty and administrative staff for
many years.
Today, McCutchen House
is open to the public and is
operated by the School of
Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism
Management (HRTM). Under the
close supervision of the director
and professional chefs, HRTM
students prepare and serve a
gourmet lunch buffet, which
is open to the public during
the fall and spring semesters.
McCutchen House, with its
charming Southern atmosphere, also offers services
for private or professional events.

Gourmet Buffet
The elegant McCutchen House is open for lunch
buffet Tuesday through Friday during the University
of South Carolina fall and spring semesters. The
buffet is prepared and served 11:30 a.m. until
1:30 p.m.* by the students of the School of Hotel,
Restaurant and Tourism Management.
The buffet offers a variety of hot dishes daily. Also
included in your meal are beverage, soup, salad,
homemade bread and signature desserts.

Cash, checks, MasterCard and Visa are all
accepted. Reservations are suggested.
*Because of the academic requirements of the students to
complete assignments, lunch will conclude by 2:00 pm.
Garden Grille
Dine outside on the McCutchen House patio amid
summer’s garden, which is open the second week
of May through mid-August, Tuesday through
Friday, 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The menu is
lighter fare including famous McCutchen House
Thursdays at McCutchen
Enjoy a five-course evening dinner designed and
prepared by the students of the School of Hotel,
Restaurant and Tourism Management under the
direction of teaching staff and chefs. One seating
is offered at 6:30 p.m. McCutchen House, while
not licensed to sell alcoholic beverages, does allow
you to bring your own wine. There is no charge for

Wine Classes
Enjoy a night of wine tasting and great food, tapas
style. All classes begin at 6:30 p.m. You must be 21

Start your Saturday with a morning of culinary
instruction at Chef du Jour! These half-day
cooking classes are designed to help the layperson
