International Women’s Day 2015 Thursday 5th March 2015 Reception at 6pm and Film at 7pm Sheffield University Students Union, Western Bank, Sheffield S10 2TG Join women from all walks of life and of all ages and nationalities to celebrate International Women’s Day for the FIFTH year running at a special film screening. ‘Philomena’ In 1952, Irish teenager Philomena (Judi Dench) became pregnant out of wedlock and was sent to a convent. When her baby, Anthony, was a toddler, the nuns took him away from her and put him up for adoption in the USA. For the next 50 years, she searched tirelessly for her son. Former BBC correspondent Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan) learns of the story and becomes her ally. They travel together to America to find Anthony and become unexpectedly close in the process. With a Networking Reception with ‘Teas and Coffees’ from 6pm in the Union Foyer, Guests will then move to the Auditorium at 7pm for the Film screening which will follow short contributions from Paul Blomfield MP for Sheffield Central; Miriam Miller, Women’s Officer, Sheffield University and Pat Pepper from UNITE In solidarity with women in Sheffield and across the world, a BUCKET COLLECTION will be taken and shared between charities helping local women in need.
