Nilanjana Dasgupta Professor of Psychology, University of Massachusetts Amherst Research Talk Mind Bugs: The Nature of Implicit Prejudice & Stereotypes Tuesday, March 31, 2015 12:00pm - 2:00pm McGregor Memorial Conference Center Stereotypes often influence people’s evaluations of others without evaluators’ awareness. In her research talk, Dr. Dasgupta will describe the subtle ways in which implicit gender and racial stereotypes influence hiring and promotion of professionals inside and outside academia. She will also highlight some evidence-based solutions and policies that prevent implicit bias from affecting personnel actions. Teaching & Learning Talk Mind Bugs: How Implicit Bias Affects Teaching & Learning Monday, March 30, 2015 12:00pm - 2:00pm McGregor Memorial Conference Center Dr. Dasgupta will address pedagogical strategies for recognizing and reducing the impact of implict bias and stereotyping in the university classroom. In this highly interactive session, Dr. Dasgupta will illustrate how implicit stereotypes can influence professors’ evaluations of students, students’ evaluations of their professors, and student academic and professional achievement. Bio Dr. Dasgupta is an accomplished scholar, publishing over forty works on topics of social identity, implicit bias, and stereotyping. Her work challenges the assumption that implicit prejudice and stereotypes are immutable and identifies circumstances under which they can be changed. Some of her projects identify conditions that reduce implicit bias while other projects identify conditions that magnify implicit bias. Dr. Dasgupta received her Ph.D. from Yale University and is a Professor of Psychology and the Director of Faculty Equity and Inclusion for the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
