Dear Colleague,
We take great pleasure in inviting you to the UG- English Curriculum Development Workshop to be
organized by the Department of English, University of Kalyani on 11 March 2015, from 10:30 AM
to 5 PM.
The proposed curriculum revision workshop es expected to kick-start the process of revision the UG
English syllabus of the university. While some ofthe components (e.g. numbers of papers,
examination schedule etc) of he curriculum are under the purview of the UG faculty council and as
such is beyond the jurisdiction of the BoS/ Dept, some other components, e.g. content, pattern of
question, testing criteria etc are certainly open to periodic revision of the BoS/ Dept.
Apart from invited resource persons from other affiliating universities of West Bengal, we are keen
to listen to your opinion/comments/suggestions
regarding the UG English syllabus. To give the
workshop deliberations a more formal structure we request you to email your
suggestions/topics/points to be covered to the convenor of the workshop. Pre-registration to the
event is a manadtory requirement to participate in the workshop and must be compulsorily
completed by by 9 March 2015. Only pre-registered faculty members from colleges will be
officially entitled to participate in the workshop. A nominal registration fee ofRs 100/- may be
charged (on the spot) from faculty participants from colleges.
The audience will include members of the university faculty, all external and internal members of
the KU BoS in English, all the heads of the English departments of the affiliating colleges, all other
colleagues of the English departments too will be invited. Moreover, we are inviting the college
topper (at least 50% in Honours aggregate) in the English (Hons.) in all affiliating colleges in the
last KU exam. Students must be accompanied by at least one of their faculty members to the
workshop. Further, their participation must be confirmed by the college/ department by email/ letter
latest by 4 PM, 9 March. While attending the workshop, the students must bring a forwarding letter
from their college authority certifying that the college authorizes them as the hons-aggregate topper
in the last KU exam to participate in the workshop. If these steps are not followed, the concerned
student will not be allowed to particiapte in the workshop. There will be no registration fee for
students.
