Nature & Scope: YMCA Camping Services offer the highest quality Day Camp programs for more than 5,000 children and youth in 36 locations across the Greater Toronto Area. YMCA Summer Day Camps offer numerous programs for 6-16 year olds that are safe, engaging, fun and contributing to the YMCA of Greater Toronto’s vision: Our communities will be home to the healthiest children, teens and young adults. Day Camp Sports Counselors are responsible for ensuring the successful day-to-day implementation of the day camp sports program ensuring that all children and youth have a safe and positive camp experience leading to personal growth and leadership opportunities. Sports Camp Counselors provide hand-on skill-development instruction to campers as well as plan and lead traditional camp activities and games ensuring all campers have a high quality camp experience. Basketball, Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer Counselors are responsible for planning and delivering 3 hours of skilldevelopment programming daily as well as planning and delivering traditional camp programming, swimming and camp theme days. Variety Sports Counselors focus on a different sport each day, as well as plan and deliver traditional camp programming, swimming and camp theme days. Responsibilities for all Counselors: Program planning; ensures daily and weekly YMCA camp program plans are filled out properly and approved by program head ensuring programs are in line with and meeting the objectives of the day camp program modules. Program delivery; ensures program plans are being followed and campers sports skills are developing, and that they are having a fun, safe, and engaging high quality camp experience. Program participation; participates enthusiastically in all camp programs with campers, including recreational swim times and theme days. Camper supervision; ensures campers are being safely supervised and supported at all times during their day camp experience providing opportunities for all campers to experience success. Responsible for attending all staff trainings and meetings, showing up on time, actively participating, and contributing to the development of all staff members. Ensures Health & Safety procedures are being followed and maintained; shares with the staff team the duties of ensuring the camp site is clean, organized and safe. Ensure administrative tasks are completed accurately and on-time including camper phone calls, parent communication logs and weekly camper progress reports. Acts as a positive role model for children, youth and fellow staff through embodying the values of the YMCA, following all YMCA day camp guidelines, YMCA policies and procedures, OCA standards, High 5 Standards. Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner. Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Children's Aid Society. Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff. Other duties as assigned.
