German Delegation to Zimbabwe -Mining and Mineral Resources20 - 23 April 2015 Background Zimbabwe is one of the most resourcerich countries in Africa. In addition to platinum, gold, chromium, coal, nickel and diamonds Zimbabwe has many other commodities. The platinum and diamond resources are among the second highest in the world. On the African level, Zimbabwe is one of the countries with the most significant gold reserves. Despite the troubled investment climate, there are opportunities in mining and raw materials for German companies. In particular, there are vast trade possibilities regarding products and services, due to about 40% of all machines and materials still have to be imported. Through appointments, company visits and corporate on-site discussions, the participants receive necessary industry and market contacts and corresponding detailed information. The local counterparts are mainly mining companies and other organisations, but also associations, government departments and chambers of commerce. Organisation The trip is organized by the Competence Centre for Mineral Resources of the Southern African – German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The work of the Competence Centre is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The German Engineering Federation (VDMA) acts as a partner for the project. Participation The trip is addressed to German companies across the entire value chain of the industry. However, in light of the economic potential of Zimbabwe, participation might focus on organisations in the area of machinery and plant engineering, the service sector and financing. A participation fee of 325.00 € (14% VAT included) per participating company will be charged. In addition, participants carry their individual travel expenses (flight, transportation, accommodation, meals).
