GREEK NIGHT TAVERNA AT WAGSTAFFE The recent Taverna in the park at Wagstaffe Hall was a huge success. Friends from the Central Coast Greek Community joined many locals, filling the park on a beautiful afternoon, celebrating together with music and dancing; sharing food, wine, laughter and conversation in a spirit of generosity and joy of life. Donella Waters gave a warm “Welcome to Country” to some 300 revellers, reminding us how fortunate we are to be in such a beautiful corner of Australia. Greek band “Out of the Blue” played through the whole afternoon, inspiring us to leap to our feet and join the line out into the square. Even the most reticent of dancers found it irresistible! Warm thanks go especially to our Greek friends who contributed so much to the Taverna experience by bringing trays of home-made baklava and dolmades to share. Special tributes go to the Band and to those who led the dancing, encouraging others to ‘have a go’. Continued on P2 ….. WTKCA WEBSITE: www.wagstaffetokillcare.org.au March 2015 Reception Survey Results A big thankyou to all who took the trouble to complete our survey –– a good 10% of all Bouddi properties. Response rates from areas of worst reception were, as might be expected, substantially greater. We are putting the results before our local federal member, the Minister for Communications and the principal mobile service providers. Those of you who have ongoing problems with mobile reception are encouraged to report those problems in the first instance to your provider’s complaint service (e.g.Telstra 132 200, Optus 133 937, Vodafone 1555 or 1300 650 410). If you consider their response unsatisfactory email details to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman at [email protected] or visit their website www.tio.com.au Maps illustrating responses street by street may be viewed in the WTKCA noticeboard at Wagstaffe Hall. The survey identifies areas of poor reception throughout the peninsula, worst being Grandview Crescent/ Patricia Place/Beach Drive. Ian Bull Killcare Wagstaffe Trust - Photo Competition KWT is running a photographic competition with this year’s theme being SANDSTONE. There are many subjects from around our beautiful peninsular to choose from. Entries close Sunday 29 March (NOT 5 April advised in last Talking Turkey). All photos will be displayed at the Maitland Bay Centre over Easter. Find entry form and full details on the KWT website: www.killcarewagstaffetrust.org.au GREEK NIGHT TAVERNA AT WAGSTAFFE (cont.) We were delighted too, to have Jacques Kitchen on hand to provide Mediterranean delights for hungry residents, guests and visitors. A highly collaborative team including Ken and Jennifer, Ruth and Julie, Albie, Sarah, Helen and Bronwyn, brought energy, ideas and skill (not to mention fun) to putting it altogether. Rob Payne provided the sound system and others helped with the tables and chairs. We are most appreciative of the financial contributions received on the day which almost covered our costs. Our thanks too, to Roger Hayward and WTKCA for support with the facilities and to Wagstaffe Store for umbrellas and for “spreading the word”. Warmth, generosity and inclusiveness are at the heart of a rich community and none more so than at Wagstaffe. Let’s build on these qualities with renewed appreciation for the value of cul- tural diversity and contribution. Virginia Henderson BUSHCARE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The bushcare group who work along the 'dogtrack', resumed in early February after their Christmas break to find an explosion of new weeds, including the dreaded 'torpedo' grass. Consequently, the regular team of six needs more assistance to win the fight against this horror weed. Even one extra pair of hands could make a big difference to the task. Just one or two hours every Monday afternoon starting from 2.00pm is required - you'll find the group about half way along the track. Come along, have a chat, and hopefully join in. Long sleeves, long trousers, hat & water needed but tools are supplied.
