Fourth Sunday of Lent
FROM THE DESK OF MSGR. DANIEL DEUTSCH
Dear Parishioners,
I want to ask you to sign up this week for the Light of the World Retreat starting next Friday
night. I know a weekend is a big gift of self to the Lord and your parish, but it will be well
worth it. Jesus has something for you on this retreat and it will make you a better and happier person. Besides, we all think we are doing just fine spiritually, but isn't it true that we can
all do better? Challenge yourself this Lent by making this commitment to a better and more
active faith. Thanks for thinking about it.
Within a month or so, we will have a new sound system. Yeah!
A member of the Capital Renovation Committee will be speaking at masses soon to update us on where we are in
our capital improvement process.
Our Parish Mission is next week. Nic Frank, our Youth Minister, will be speaking starting Sunday night.
Fr Romke will be presenting an evening of Prayer and Praise as he offers reflections and music on Wednesday
night at 7 in the Church.
Please fill out the order form in this bulletin to purchase your Divine Mercy image. We will
order all the images at once and then have them for distribution for those who have prepaid. We will bless them at masses on the weekend of Divine Mercy Sunday, the week after Easter. They are $20 and will be a beautiful addition to your home or prayer place.
Jesus, I trust in you!
Peace,
Msgr.
P.S.~I also want to thank Renee Bolhous for her great work with Home and School. I left
her name off my Shamrock Shuffle thank you list last week. Thank you, Renee.

LENTEN REGULATIONS
FOR FAST AND ABSTINENCE
In the United States, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are
days of fast and abstinence. All other Fridays of Lent are
days of abstinence only.
ABSTINENCE: All persons who have completed their fourteenth year are bound by the law of abstinence.
FAST: All adults are bound by the law of fast from the beginning of their nineteenth year up to the beginning of their sixtieth year.
EXPLANATION: The law of abstinence means that a person is
bound to abstain beginning the day after one’s fourteenth
birthday.
The law of fast means that adults are bound to fast from the
day after their eighteenth birthday until the end of the day of
their fifty-ninth birthday.
Music at St. Bridget School has always
been my joy. During January, I was able
to assist at the Boylan Mass for Catholic
Schools Week along with some of our 4th
graders who came to a special practice after school to be
part of our Diocesan Student Choir for the event. We
sang “Here Am I” by Tom Booth which was a new song
for us. We decided to use this song for our very own
Catholic Schools Week Mass here at St. Bridget as well
and we have used it again, in fact, last week at our
Mass on Wednesday. If you didn’t know, every Wednesday the students prepare to sing our 8:15 AM Mass.
They practice the readings and petitions as well. I have
been told by someone attending that they so look forward to this Mass every week because of the music.
Thank you for such a pleasant comment! Sincerely, Mrs.
Tritt
APPLICATION: The law of abstinence forbids the eating of
meat and food prepared with meat or meat by-products.
The law of fast allows only one full meal and two lighter meals
in the course of a day, and prohibits eating between meals.
EXCEPTIONS: Women who are pregnant and persons who
are sick are not bound by the law of the fast.
The Knights of Columbus will be taking preorders for Easter Lilies after all weekend
Masses through March 22nd for pickup

the church after all Masses. Net proceeds will go to

Mary’s Corner
When Jesus met His mother on the road to Calvary, can you
imagine how they felt as they looked into each other's
eyes? Look at the face of Jesus at His crucifixion. Can we
not feel the same heartache and pain as Mary did? Does a
sword pierce our hearts?

"Priest, Prophet, King" by Fr. Robert Barron
The better we understand Jesus, the better we understand ourselves. But who was Jesus, this itinerant preacher whom many called
the Messiah?
Father Robert Barron will answer that question in his new series call, “Priest, Prophet, King”. The renowned priest will help viewers
discover Jesus as the Anointed One: the ultimate priest, prophet and king foreshadowed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures. Using
biblical insights and engaging stories Fr. Barron affirms that we see Jesus most clearly through the lens of the Old Testament.
“The prophets of the false gods are everywhere today,” said Father Barron. “They tell our kids all the time that the path to happiness is through wealth, pleasure, power and honor. But we must boldly challenge these false gods and reveal the strange, startling
truth that Jesus Crucified is the true vision of happiness and freedom.”
Through this presentation of “Priest, Prophet, King”, Father Barron wants viewers to better understand Jesus, become more familiar
with Scripture, and realize their own priestly, prophetic, and kingly mission.
This is a deeply biblical program, filmed in high-definition video, with an accompanying study guide, by notable Catholic writer and
apologist, Carl Olson, written under Father Barron’s direction.
The six lessons in the “Priest, Prophet, King" study program are:
1. Adoratio: Adam as Priest
2. The High Priest
3. Challenging False Worship: Elijah the Prophet
4. The Word Made Flesh
5. Ordering the Kingdom: King David
6. King of Kings
This program will be offered on Mondays, March16,23,30 at 1:00-2:30 PM at the Parish Center Rm B. Teresa Marotta will be the
facilitator for this study.
Pantry Note: Sometimes the path of pantry is tough. I've concluded that Satan doesn't like pantry and therefore if
he can get people offended about pantry then he can "mess" with it. He often seems to mess with me. A few
weeks ago a company in town donated $10,000 to the Northern Illinois Food Bank as a take 50 grant. By this, it
is meant that if we ordered $1,000 worth of food the grant would pay $500. What a great opportunity! However,
the funds were depleted in less than a week, before our normal ordering time. Two of the larger pantries capitalized on the
opportunity and used up a lot of the funding and a few others used the rest. Needless to say I was not happy. I was royally
offended. It got my Irish temper up. However, in the quiet of my heart I could hear Jesus saying "I'll take care of it." I know
that Jesus takes care of the pantry because without Him it wouldn't be. So, I listened to the still small voice in my heart and
went about my work. A week later I was opening the mail and in it was a check for $1,000 in memory of a departed parishioner. Jesus took care of it. When you find your temper rising, tell Satan to scat and let Jesus take care of it. He has such
great plans for us. ~Teresa Marotta
