LEED v4 Building Design and Construction—Focus on all Prerequisites
Continuing Education: 1.5 GBCI CEU for LEED Accredited Professionals and AIA credit
This program is appropriate for architects, specifiers, professional engineers, building owners, building
managers, corporate accounts and building inspectors. This program is basic and meets the needs of
professionals at every experience level.
Presenter:
Ram Surendhranath, Associate AIA; LEED AP BD+C; Member HRGBC; currently works as architect at Clark
Nexsen. He worked on several LEED certified projects at Clark Nexsen and volunteers with the United
Nations in designing Net-Zero housing. He serves on the Communications Committee for HRGBC and AIA
Hampton Roads. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in architecture from Madras University,
India; a Master’s degree in architecture from SUNY at Buffalo and a Master’s degree in architecture and
urban design from Columbia University in the city of New York. His interests are in sea level rise
adaptation strategies for Hampton Roads.
LEED v4 is a sophisticated way of looking at interconnectivity that exists throughout building systems and
the phases of building design and construction. Gain broad insight on all prerequisites and establish a
foundation for adopting LEED v4 into your green building practice. Explore common themes in this new
rating system such as synergies within the rating system, integrative process, and the role of
performance.
This presentation takes an in-depth look at the system goals and how these concepts are visible in all
parts of the LEED v4 rating system, preparing you to adopt LEED v4 into your green building practice.
Whether you’re an architect, owner, builder, consultant, advocate or someone who likes to see this world
as a healthy place to live, work and play, we hope you will join us as we move forward with a new
benchmark for sustainability.

The emphasis of this program will be financial planning for the young engineer, recent graduate
or college student. This interactive event is to help you emerge from your college years (or
early working years) debt-free. Here are a few questions to ponder:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
How to start investing or save money when you are broke?
How to save if you have to pay back student loans?
Do I really need to invest in a 401K? Are there better plans?
How aggressive do I need to be in "planning for the future"?
How can I maximize employer contributions?
Why should I care about any of this at this time in my life?
No admission fee, but RSVP is required by March 18, 2015. Food w ill be served.
Please indicate dietary needs/restrictions.
Parking IS NOT FREE, and normal meter rates apply. (Parking has become challenge lately at
ODU, especially between 10am and 4pm, and no free parking is available.)
Elkhorn parking garage is recommended since it is closest to the building in which the meeting
will take place. However any visitor parking may be used as shown on this webpage: https://

the science of Electrical Forensics, recommended practices for it, and lessons learned
from past case studies. The presentation will include a 30-minute slide-show
presentation followed by questions and discussion
Biography: Kurt Clemente (S’91, M’93, SM’06) graduated from
the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1993 with a BSEE degree and
from Old Dominion University in 1995 with an MS degree. He is a
Senior Electrical Engineer and an Associate with Clark Nexsen
Architecture & Engineering in Norfolk, VA. He is a senior member of
the IEEE, a member of Standards Coordinating Committee 18, and
the IEEE representative to Code-Making Panel #18 of NFPA-70
National Electrical Code. Mr. Clemente holds three patents for fiber
optic components and submersible LED lights. He is a Registered

Hampton Roads Engineering Societies Calendar March 2015
Last Word
The Hampton Roads Engineering Societies Calendar is a free e-mail calendar of engineering society events for the Hampton
Roads area. It is open to the public and all societies are invited to advertise their events.
Any society may send in announcements (monthly meetings, EXCOMs, conferences, …) for distribution. They can be as
colorful as you wish. I accept most any format. I can convert the essential details of an announcement for the text version of
calendar. Announcements are distributed via email with a link to a PDF download file. PDF files allow for ruffles and
flourishes, such as society logos, banners, et al.
Issues are distributed the 1st of each month with mid-month issues for January to May and September to November. Please
forward your society’s announcement to me by the 20th of the month and include contact information.
List members receive a monthly text-only e-mail calendar of events. The latest PDF version of this file is available on the
Peninsula Engineers Council website http://www.va-pec.org/events/HREE_calendar.pdf. Send an email to
[email protected] if you desire to be notified when new PDF versions are available.
Calendar users can:
* Join the list by sending a blank e-mail to [email protected] [text version], or
* Receive notices when the PDF version is available by sending a message to [email protected]. .
