A Peek at the Presidents
George Washington probably didn’t
chop down a cherry tree, and his
dentures weren’t made of wood, but of
cow teeth. More presidential tidbits:
Thomas Jefferson (1801-09). A
prolific inventor, he designed or
improved the spherical sundial,
dumbwaiter and swivel chair, among
other items.
John Quincy Adams (1825-29).
Swam in the Potomac River
each morning.
Ulysses S. Grant (1869-77).
Received a speeding ticket while
driving his one-horse carriage in
Washington, D.C.
James A. Garfield (1881).
Ambidextrous, President Garfield
could write a sentence in Latin with
one hand and in Greek with the other.
Warren G. Harding (1921-23).
During a poker game, he lost a set of
White House china to Gen. Douglas
MacArthur’s first wife, Louise.
Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-45).
After President Roosevelt told guests
about a mystery story he’d imagined,
it was made into a novel and movie,
called “The President’s Mystery.” FDR
received a “story by” credit.
Gerald Ford (1974-77). He and his
wife, Betty, had been models. He
even appeared on the cover of
Cosmopolitan magazine.
The 44th President
• Barack Obama’s favorite comic
books are “Spider-Man” and

• Fellow students in Hawaii

Winter Parking Reminders
Be sure to thank your maintenance
and cleaning staff for doing such an
amazing job with snow removal. Here
are a few reminders to help our staff
as they work to clear the snow:
• When snow is present, please
park so that your car’s bumper
does not overhang the sidewalk.
• Please make sure your vehicle(s)
display your Hampton In
Highland parking sticker and that
all overnight visitors have a
temporary parking pass.
• Whenever there is more than 2"
of snow accumulation, please
move your vehicle to a cleared
parking space.
Did You Know We Have a
Recycling Dumpster?
It is located just north of the
maintenance shop/garage next to the
car wash and playground area. You
may drop plastic, paper, glass and
cardboard into the dumpster.

3 Things You Need to Know
The American Heart Association
urges women to get serious about
cardiovascular disease. Here are
three things you need to know:
1) Your risk increases after age 40
due to less estrogen, more
blood-clotting protein and increased
LDL, or bad cholesterol.
2) Fight it by not smoking, eating a
healthy diet and exercising 30 minutes
a day.
3) Women’s heart attack symptoms
can be subtle and may include chest
tightening, pain in the upper body,
nausea, sweating and dizziness.
