Rite of Strengthening and Healing: we pray again this weekend for our newly elect
Hawa Angaba, Haji Andadi, Hamadi Andadi, Anna Huynh, and Rahim Narimisa.
Prayers also for our candidates Nicole Chan and Kallo Kanis who will join in full
communion with the Catholic Church through the celebration of Confirmation and
first Eucharist at Easter.
Deep within our hearts, O God, you have written your law,
and in Jesus, your Son you establish the new and everlasting covenant.
Raise up these our friends with Christ,
the grain fallen to the earth that yields a harvest of everlasting life.
Bring them to glorify your name by following you faithfully where Christ has led.
We ask this through Christ, our light and hope, who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, holy and mighty God, for ever and ever. Amen.

In a remote Andean village in Peru,
Caritas is helping farmers like Cristian
to grow & harvest a wide variety of high-value, sustainable crops
which provide secure income & food for life.
Cristian’s village community lives a traditional life, & without
irrigation, farmers have always relied on the rains to water crops.
“When there were no rains we suffered a lot” says Cristian.
In 2012, Cristian & 14 other young farmers in his community
participated in the Rural Development Program run by Caritas.
The program offers materials, capital & training that helps
farmers in rural areas establish sustainable farms that will
produce reliable, profitable, long-term crops.
The program helped the young men secure land to farm, & provided them with seedlings
& agricultural training so that they could grow & harvest sustainable, high-value orchard
crops, including peaches, custard apples & avocados. They also received the materials
& training they needed to build an irrigation system to water their fields. The farmers
have helped one another to learn & achieve, & are now reaping the rewards of their hard
work – a healthy, nutritious new range of fruits in their diets & a steadily increasing
income for all their families. “The fact that I and the other partners can grow & develop
together makes me proud,” says Cristian.
Liturgical recruiting: extended members of Liturgy Team are out and about filling in ministry gaps for parish celebrations
from Palm Sunday, through Holy Week and into Easter Sunday. Gratitude to them. Wider parishioners please be amenable
to assisting where possible.
Liturgical practice: our Holy Week liturgies are moving worship. They are so engaging because the various ministers know
what they are doing, when they are doing it, and have practiced so that it is a most meaningful expression of faith. Much
gratitude to all who give time to making sure things go right / rite!
Vanuatu Prayers and assistance: Stephanie Lalor, Pacific Programmes Manager for Caritas Australia, said on Monday that
her agency is liaising with its Pacific partners, staff and church networks to monitor the aftermath of the super-cyclone, assess
damage and respond to requests for support. Aid agencies and the authorities in Vanuatu are struggling to gauge the extent
of the damage across the country because communications are down and fallen power lines and trees have blocked roads.
Caritas will be at work on the ground with its local network of Catholic Parishes to provide relief and support for those affected.
We pray God’s strength and assistance in this time of tribulation.
March 24 is the day on which Oscar Romero (1917-1980), Archbishop of San Salvador, was martyred for his defence of the
poor and powerless. He was murdered whilst celebrating Mass in the Chapel of the Carmelite Sisters’ hospital for cancer
patients, where he lived. This year he will be beatified on May 23 in a ceremony in San Salvador presided by Cardinal Angelo
Amato, prefect of the Congregation for Saints' Causes. His beatification is a gift for the world, particularly the people of
El Salvador. He is an inspiration for all of us to walk the path of peace and justice.
Archbishop Mark Coleridge has made the following announcements: Fr Francis Perumaden OFM Cap - Associate Pastor of
Wynnum and Chaplain to Nazareth House Wynnum. Fr Pionius Hendi OFM Cap - Chaplain to the Indonesian Community.
Fr James O'Donoghue part-time Associate Pastor of Hendra running concurrently with his appointment as Chaplain to the
Royal Brisbane Hospital. Fr Aidan Carvill SM, has resigned from the parish of Geebung. Fr Augustine Obi will take leave until
further notice in order to deal with some personal issues. During this time, he will be absent from St Leo's College, the
University of Queensland and the parish of Indooroopilly. We wish Fr Augustine well during his leave. (Our prayers are with
Fr Augustine as he takes this time. Any and all of us can need some space and God’s help. God will be with him, and prayers
he is back soon in ministry).

We of Sherwood Uniting Church sincerely thank you
& your fellow parishioners for your warm fellowship
at the World Day of Prayer Service, praying &
participating in a service challenging us to follow the
examples of Christ by continuing to serve with radical love
wherever we can just as Christ did for his disciples and for
us. In learning of the Bahamas’ remarkable history and
culture, we realised just how very much they are in need of
our prayerful support. Thank you all also for lunching with us
afterwards and for spoiling us with your tasty contributions.

LITURGY SNIPPET:
Holy Thursday - The Washing of Feet
The Sacred Paschal Triduum is ONE liturgical celebration that
begins with the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy
Thursday, reaches its high point at the Easter Vigil, and closes on
Easter Sunday evening.
One of the primary elements of the Evening Mass of the Lord’s
Supper is the ritual of the Washing of the Feet. This liturgical
gesture ritualises the Christian ideal of a leadership of service.
The ritual is not a re-enactment of the Gospel. Having one’s feet
washed is not a reward or honour. Washing another’s feet and
allowing another to wash our feet is a powerful experience. It
captures the real act of service involved in Christ getting down on
his hands and knees and washing the filthy feet of his disciples.
Any other gesture, like the washing of hands, does not even
come close and is not encouraged. Washing of feet speaks
powerfully of humility and self-sacrifice; hand washing was
Pontius Pilate’s gesture.
Therefore, come to the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper and
be prepared to enter into this ritual. Wear shoes or sandals that
are easy to slip off. (Source: Liturgy Lines, Liturgy Brisbane)
