Prophetika: an oratorio
CONCEIVED AND DIRECTED BY CHARLOTTE BRATHWAITE | COMPOSED BY COURTNEY BRYAN
INSTALLATION AND COSTUMES BY ABIGAIL DEVILLE
Part theatrical event, part visual art installation, part ritual ceremony, Prophetika: An
Oratorio proposes a mythical cosmology of colliding reflections on freedom and a view of
the current state of our world. Inspired by Harriet Tubman’s journey from enslavement to
liberation; the cosmic philosophies and improvisational style of Sun Ra; Alice Coltrane’s
consciousness raising devotional music and the mysterious invading black monoliths in
Stanley Kubrick’s classic sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

An Integrator’s Manual
WRITTEN AND PERFORMED BY DANIEL ALEXANDER JONES
IN COLLABORATION AND DIRECTED BY WILL DAVIS
Named by American Theatre Magazine as one of fifteen artists whose work would “change
American stages for decades to come,” Daniel Alexander Jones is an award-winning
interdisciplinary artist. An Integrator’s Manual traces loss and transfiguration resulting
from the failures of integration in the USA. Will we be agents of death or of life? Will we
weep and moan, or will we rise up? This work-in-progress presentation is directed by Will
Davis and features performer Jacques Gerard Colimon. Daniel Alexander Jones sounds a
ritual of release and a challenge for the future using story, song, and humor and features
original live music.

MarcDeWitt, Peter Gray, Yoni Greenwood, Dominika Laster, Crystal Liu, Leah Osterman,
Nathan A. Roberts, Harry Shamansky, Eddy Wang, and Donald Woodson.

Swallow / Golondrina
BY SIN TEATRO INTIMUS | DIRECTED AND WRITTEN BY AMINTA DE LARA
In a time of deep partisan division and massive street demonstrations for and against the
government, two sisters are forced to delve into their relationship with their father and
what he represents leading to a confrontation stemming from their childhood. An
overwhelming parallel between child abuse and political violence is revealed. Music
by Maria Eugenia Atilano and Gina Monc and visuals by Carlos Ayesta, Helena Acosta
and Violette Bule. Aminta De Lara is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic
Arts and is an original founding member of the theatre group Sinteatro, a collective of
artists who are striving to bring theatre back to its original ritual form with a minimalist
approach.
The third collaboration between Witness Relocation and acclaimed writer Charles Mee,
in which people meet, fall in love, make out with each other, find being alive awkward but
funny, and dance quite a lot. With original songs by Obie-winning composer Heather
Christian and costume design by Brooklyn-based maverick fashion designer Brad
Callahan, Witness Relocation combines dance and theater with the energy of a rock show,
exploding contemporary culture into intensely physical, outrageous, poetic, and
sometimes brutal performances.

WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY DANE TERRY
With Bird In The House, composer/performer Dane Terry paints scenes of childhood and
adolescence in the off-colors of standard-issue American neuroses. With Terry’s liquid
country and western piano sloshing all the while under his intoned yarns. Bird In The House
features songs from his new album Color Movies, which will be released concurrently.
Trash Cuisine
DEVISED AND PERFORMED BY BELARUS FREE THEATRE
DIRECTED AND ADAPTED BY NICOLAI KHALEZIN
CONCEPT, STAGE AND COSTUME DESIGN BY NICOLAI KHALEZIN AND NATALIA KALIADA
“ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL UNDERGROUND COMPANIES ON THE PLANET” NEW YORK TIMES (2013)
Banned from performing in their home country, Belarus Free Theatre serves up food,
music, dance and Shakespeare as they share true stories from inmates, executioners,
human rights lawyers, and families of the executed. This provocative and urgent show
pierces the imagination with moments of the darkest humor as it challenges capital
punishment in our contemporary world, where 95 countries still carry out the death
penalty.
Belarus Free Theatre was founded in 2005 under Europe’s last surviving dictatorship; the
company is one of the most outspoken critics of Belarus’s repressive regime. Many
company members have served time in prison, lost their jobs, gone into hiding or been
exiled. Despite this, the company continues to develop award-winning work with the
support of artists around the world.

for whom. Associated events will be presented in partnership with Hi-ARTS.

The Floatones
WRITTEN BY JIM NEU | DIRECTED BY CATHERINE GALASSO & KEITH MCDERMOTT
The Floatones is an experimental theater work in which four people form an “encounter
support group” that sings about “post meaning” and living “content free.” On the cutting
edge between entertainment and self-help, they inspire each other with idiosyncratic
gestures and atonal harmonies. Written by the late downtown theater legend Jim Neu,
The Floatones return to The Club at La MaMa after 25 years with a new generation of
downtown performers.

My Heart is in the East
BY JESSICA LITWAK
My Heart is in the East is a poetic experiment that uses history as a model for peace
building. It is filled with humor, puppets, and many characters. The play takes place in
two realms: Present day Middle East, and 11th Century Cordoba where Muslims and Jews
lived in coexistence. Jessica Litwak is the Artistic Director of The H.E.A.T. Collective, an
organization dedicated to Healing, Education, Activism and Theatre, and the Director and
Founder of the New Generation Theatre Ensemble.

YOUR WAR’TRY GRAVE
CONCEIVED, CREATED AND ASSEMBLED BY ARTHUR ADAIR
Theatre auteur Arthur Adair, returns to La MaMa with a musically-charged, theatrical
installation of psychedelic modernism steeped in ritual and informed by our human
relationship to water and war. A live sound-scape underscores a man vs. self vs. nature
narrative of classical, scientific & contemporary text engaged with psycho-physical
movement.

Botox Angels
BY DOOD PAARD (AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS)
PERFORMED BY ELLEN GOEMANS, JANNEKE REMMERS AND MANJA TOPPER
TEXT BY ROB DE GRAAF
Rob de Graaf, Manja Topper and Ellen Goemans previously worked together on Freetown
(La MaMa, November/December 2012). Now they have created the feminist lesbian
relationship comedy Botox Angels, together with Janneke Remmers, a performance about
militant female sexuality in a small community, with lots of sultry dialogue, jealousy and
emotional violence. The text by Rob de Graaf will be interspersed with performances by
female artists from1964 to 2014.
WRITTEN AND PERFORMED BY WINSOME BROWN
DIRECTED BY BRAD ROUSE
This is Mary Brown is the epic story of a simple life. Mary Brown is an iconoclastic and
wickedly funny Irish immigrant. In this beautiful one-woman play, Obie-award winner
Winsome Brown channels her mother and her family, bringing to life the homesickness
and humor of an Irish expatriate; her struggles with aging and alcoholism; the ups and
downs of a 45-year marriage and three children; and finally, the sad grace of a mother’s
death. It is a story of family, revelatory and generous in its love, honesty, and humor.

BY DANCE CARTEL | WET CLUTCH
Known for delivering “boundary-stretching…haute-performance theory with a house
party vibe” (The New York Times) Ani Taj and The Dance Cartel creates experiences that
break the expectation of a “dance performance” in order to bring movement to a broad
and diverse audience. Inspired by Hollywood cinema’s female heroes from the past 50
years, Wet Clutch explores portable material that can be adapted to diverse spaces. Iconic
female imagery from the last four decades of Hollywood pop and cult films will complement and offset live choreography and celebratory actions, forming an explosive public
dance experience. Wet Clutch is the first chapter of their latest project, Drive-In.

combines their respective works of paint, video, and digital imagery to create a new piece
of art. Each allows their own work to play a significant role throughout the process. The
show is as much about making a final piece as it is about discovering new contexts for
each other’s work.
