Spring 2015 - Union Square

ITS SHOWTIME!
Dim the lights and get the popcorn ready — the Seattle
International Film Festival is back! This festival is the
largest and most widely attended in the country,
with 250 features and 150 short films from over 80
countries presented.
Starting on May 14th, this 25 day event has a wide
range of genres, from travel documentaries to
comedies to art performances of all kinds. To
view all of the film categories and learn more
about the film festival, visit www.siff.net.
LEED Certification
Here at Union Square, sustainability
is a priority. The US Green Building
Council’s LEED certification process
has become the standard for
measuring our efforts. We started
our re-certification process last
year with our tenant transportation
survey and will be closing that
survey out on March 13th. After
completing this survey, you are
entered to win an iPad Air or Mac
Book Pro! If you have not yet
completed this survey you can do so
at transwestern.wufoo.com/forms/
union-square-transportation-survey.
If you have completed it, thank you
for you participation and good luck
at the final drawing which will be the
week of March 16th.
WIN!
ARCADE LIGHTS
On April 24th, Pike Place Market will
empty out, as it usually does at the
end of a busy spring day. But after
hours, it will fill up with a new set of
vendors for Arcade Lights, a yearly
event that is host to over 70 local
food and drink purveyors.
From cupcakes to pasta to wine,
there is something for everyone
to enjoy at this casual, oneof-a-kind event. Each ticket
purchase is good for a
reusable glass and ten
tokens, which can be used
at your discretion.
All tickets sold will benefit the Pike
Place Market Foundation. The Early
Bird ticket price is $45 – after the
first 250 are sold, the price increases
to $60. For more event information,
visit pikeplacemarketfoundation.org.

costs $12.
• The installation on the
stadium’s North Tower
is the work of artist
Bob Haozous.
• There is capacity for
67,000 fixed seats,

seats, as well as an
additional 5,000 seats
for special events.
• A special paint was
developed for the
field to easily switch
between football and

• The last elevator
arrived the day before
the 1962 World’s Fair
opened.
• The first Space
Needle Manager,
Hoge Sullivan, had
acrophobia, a fear
of heights.
• Two of the elevators
travel 10 mph, which
is equal to the speed
in which a raindrop
falls to earth. In fact,
a snowflake falls at 3
mph, so when riding
during a snowstorm,
it appears to be
snowing upwards.
