Edgewood Farms’ National Champion Ram
On the front cover is the 2014 National Champion Oxford Ram,
“Timber” EWF 13-023, bred and owned by Edgewood Farms of
Ottawa, Illinois. Edgewood Farms is a multi-generation operation with
a long history in the Oxford breed, owned and operated by Brad and
Julie Angus and their sons, Tyler and Nicholas.
Prior to winning the yearling ram class and being named Champion
at the NAILE, “Timber” was also Champion Ram at the Illinois State
Fair. His sire is Double A 1144, who was lost after just one small
sampling, which not only included “Timber,” but also Buckland’s
Supreme Champion Junior Show Ewe at Indiana, and Buckland’s
Champion Ewe at this past National Oxford Sale. His dam, EWF 11023, was Tyler’s lead show ewe in 2012 and was in turn sired by EWF
10-022 who was Champion Ram at Illinois in 2010. His pedigree also
includes influence from “Uno,” “Hot Shot,” and “Titan” adding
increased excitement about his potential impact on their flock.
“Timber” was used sparingly as a lamb by EWF and Double A and his
first offspring didn’t disappoint, including the very popular second
place March ewe lamb at the NAILE. Brad and Julie eagerly await
“Timber’s” influence on this year’s crop and hope you will consider
contacting them with your Oxford needs. They also maintain 25
blackface wether dams and have project lambs available throughout the
spring.
Check out their annual consignment at the National Oxford Sale in
June or sheep are always available privately off the farm. You can visit
with Brad or Julie at any time at 815/735-3993 or 815/433-2946 or
check out their website at www.edgewoodoxfords.com. They are
always happy to have you stop by for a visit and inspect the sheep.

Shamrock Sheep & Company’s National Champion Ewe
Gracing the front cover is the 2014 National Champion Oxford
Ewe, KLOB 13-219, “Keavy,” Gaelic for Graceful, exhibited by
Shamrock Sheep & Company of Bloomington, California. KLOB 13219 is the result of a time-tested Oxford breeding program. Kelly
O’Brien, along with her mother Penny and their families, have been a
staple in the Oxford breed for over 19 years, when they acquired the
flock from Tor Sorenson. Kelly and Penny couldn’t be more proud of
KLOB 13-219’s accomplishments in 2014, and furthermore have been
humbled by the kind words and comments from fellow breeders.
KLOB 13-219 had a very successful show career and was named
Champion Ewe numerous times, including Champion Oxford Ewe at
the California State Fair, the North American International Livestock
Exposition and concluded her show career by being named Supreme
Champion Ewe at the 2014 Arizona National Livestock Show.
KLOB 13-219 is a line-bred female straight from the heart of the
Shamrock program. Her sire, KLOB 11-107, is a Shamrock bred ram
that has been the anchor in the Shamrock program for the last several
years. Her dam, KLOB 09-20, has also been a special breeding piece
and proven champion. KLOB 13-219 stems from a tremendous
pedigree of proven winners in the showring and in the breeding
program. More specifically, as one studies KLOB 13-219 from a
phenotypic standpoint, she exhibits outstanding balance, structural
integrity, added mass and beautiful breed type. She’s the kind of female
that uniquely blends exceptional style and usefulness into one attractive
package. KLOB 13-219 has all the pieces to make an impact in the
Shamrock flock. Be sure to watch for her influence in years to come!
Visitors are always welcome to Shamrock Sheep & Company. The
flock may be small in terms of numbers, but there is never a shortage
of quality. Throughout 2015, a select group of stud ram prospects and
ewe lambs will be offered for sale privately at the farm, please contact
Kelly or Penny to learn more. As always, the Shamrock Sheep &
Company show flock will be out and about in 2015, just look for the
green shirts with the big shamrock on them!
