The facilitator is Fr. Andrew Rosiac SAC 5TH SUNDAY OF LENT - YEAR B - 22ND MARCH 2015 The annual Witness for Life March takes place Saturday March 28th at 9:00 a.m. from the Derek Walcott Square. All are invited. First Reading ur readings today are filled with anticipation. The days are Jer.31:31-34 coming, Jeremiah prophesies in the First Reading. The hour Second Reading has come, Jesus says in the Gospel. The new covenant that God Heb.5:7-9 promised to Jeremiah is made in the “hour” of Jesus - in His death, Gospel resurrection, and ascension to the Father’s right hand. Jn.12:20-30 The prophets said this new covenant would return Israel’s exiled tribes from the ends of the world. Jesus too predicted His passion MASS TIMES would gather the dispersed children of God. But today He promises Morning Prayers: to draw to Himself, not only Israelites, but all men and women. 5:45a.m. The new covenant is more than a political or national restoration. As we sing in the Psalm, it is a universal spiritual restoration. In the MONDAY: GROS ISLET Mass 6:00 a. m. “hour” of Jesus, sinners in every nation can return to the Father to Mass: 12:30 p.m. be washed of their guilt and given new hearts to love and serve Him. TUESDAY: GROS ISLET 6:00 a.m. In predicting He will be “lifted up,” Jesus isn’t describing only His coming crucifixion. Isaiah used the same word to tell how the WEDNESDAY Messiah, after suffering for Israel’s sins, would be raised high and 12:30 & 6:00 p.m.: Gros Islet greatly exalted. Elsewhere the term describes how kings are 6:00 p.m.- G/Riviere elevated above their subjects. Troubled in His agony, Jesus didn’t pray to be saved. Instead, He THURSDAY offered himself to the Father on the cross as a living prayer and 6:00 a.m./12:30 p.m.: Islet supplication. For this, God gave Him dominion over heaven and 6:00 Gros p.m. - Monchy earth . FRIDAY Where He has gone we can follow, if we let Him lead us. To follow Jesus means hating our lives of sin and selfishness. It means 6:00 a.m./12:30 p.m.: Gros Islet trusting in the Father’s will, the law He has written in our hearts. SATURDAY Jesus’ “hour” continues in the Eucharist, where we join our sacrifices to His, giving God our lives in reverence and obedience, 6:30 a.m./7:00 p. m.: Gros Islet confident He will raise us up to bear fruits of holiness. ♦ There will be no Novena in Church for Divine Mercy Sunday. Parishioners are encouraged to pray the Novena privately. O Gros Islet, Grande Riviere & Monchy ♦ St. Joseph the Worker Parish T he Feast of the Annunciation is one of the most important in the Church calendar. It celebrates the angel Gabriel's appearance to the Virgin Mary (Lk.1:26-38), his announcement that the Blessed Virgin had been chosen to be the Mother of Our Lord, and Mary's fiat - her willing acceptance of God's holy plan and the actual Incarnation of Our Savior - the Word made flesh in the womb of His mother, Mary. Celebrated as a Marian feast, the Annunciation dates back at least to the fifth century. When Mary signaled to Gabriel her acceptance of God's Will, Christ was conceived in her womb through the power of the Holy Spirit. Mary becomes the eminent figure she is only by God’s grace. She is the human being who best, after Jesus, exemplifies the possibilities of human existence. She received into her lowliness the infinite love of God. She shows how an ordinary human being can reflect God in the ordinary circumstances of life. She exemplifies what the Church and every member of the Church is meant to become. She is the ultimate product of the creative and redemptive power of God. She manifests what the Incarnation is meant to accomplish for all of us. The Feast of the Annunciation is on 25th March, nine full months before Christmas, the birthday of Jesus, unless that date falls during Holy Week or Easter Week or on a Sunday. The Easter Triduum begins with the Vigil of Holy Thursday. It marks the end Annie Etienne of the forty days of Lent and the beginning of the three-day celebration of the Pearl St. Helene death and resurrection of Jesus Christ - Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Priscillia Henry Easter Vigil/Easter Sunday. Claude Guillaume The Second Vatican Council reminded us of the extraordinary significance of Claude Griffith the Triduum."Christ redeemed us all and gave perfect glory to God principally DECEASED through His paschal mystery: dying He destroyed our death and rising He restored our life. Therefore the Easter Triduum of the passion and resurrection Christopher Monrose of Christ is the culmination of the entire liturgical year." Godfrey Baptiste The last Forty Days have been a time of preparation for these great three days. Joseph Clarke These three days lead us to an empty tomb and an Octave, eight days, of Celestine Emanus celebrating the Resurrection. They also introduce an entire liturgical season, Marie Therese Fontelio the Easter Season, which lasts for fifty days until Pentecost. The Catechism of the Catholic Church instructs us: "Beginning with the WEEKDAY READINGS Easter Triduum as its source of light, the new age of the Resurrection fills the whole liturgical year with its brilliance”. “Therefore Easter is not simply one MONDAY feast among others, but the "Feast of feasts," the "Solemnity of solemnities," just as the Eucharist is the "Sacrament of sacraments" “The mystery of the Dan.13:1-9.15-17.1930.33-62. Resurrection, in which Christ crushed death, permeates with its powerful Jn.8:1-11 energy our old time, until all is subjected to Him." We will soon attend the Mass of Last Supper and receive the gift of the Holy TUESDAY Eucharist, the Body, Blood Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. We will enter Num.21:4-9 into the deep meaning of the Holy Priesthood. We will be invited to pour Jn.8:21-30 ourselves out like the water in the basins used to wash feet on Holy Thursday. We will be asked, with the disciples in the Gospel accounts we will hear WEDNESDAY proclaimed, to watch with the Lord. We will be invited to enter with Him into Is.7:10-14.8:10 His anguish by imitating His Holy surrender in His Sacred Humanity in the Heb.10:4-10 Garden of Gethsemane. Lk.1:26-38 Through the stark and solemn Liturgy of Good Friday we will stand at the Altar of the Cross where heaven is rejoined to earth and earth to heaven, along THURSDAY with the Mother of the Lord. We will enter into the moment that forever Gen.17:3-9 changed, and still changes all human history, the great self gift of the Son of Jn.8:51-59 God who did for us what we could never do for ourselves, by in the words of the ancient Exultet, "trampling on death by death". We will wait at the tomb FRIDAY and witness the Glory of the Resurrection and the beginning of the New CreaJer.20:10-13 tion. Jn.10:31-42 Let us enter fully into the Sacred Triduum Liturgies.
