5TH SUNDAY OF LENT - YEAR B - 22ND MARCH 2015
The annual Witness for Life March takes
place Saturday March 28th at 9:00 a.m. from
the Derek Walcott Square. All are invited.
First Reading
ur readings today are filled with anticipation. The days are
Jer.31:31-34
coming, Jeremiah prophesies in the First Reading. The hour Second Reading
has come, Jesus says in the Gospel. The new covenant that God
Heb.5:7-9
promised to Jeremiah is made in the “hour” of Jesus - in His death,
Gospel
resurrection, and ascension to the Father’s right hand.
Jn.12:20-30
The prophets said this new covenant would return Israel’s exiled
tribes from the ends of the world. Jesus too predicted His passion
MASS TIMES
would gather the dispersed children of God. But today He promises

to draw to Himself, not only Israelites, but all men and women.

The new covenant is more than a political or national restoration.
As we sing in the Psalm, it is a universal spiritual restoration. In the MONDAY: GROS ISLET

“hour” of Jesus, sinners in every nation can return to the Father to Mass:

be washed of their guilt and given new hearts to love and serve
Him.
TUESDAY: GROS ISLET
6:00 a.m.
In predicting He will be “lifted up,” Jesus isn’t describing only His
coming crucifixion. Isaiah used the same word to tell how the

Where He has gone we can follow, if we let Him lead us. To follow

St. Joseph the Worker Parish
T
he Feast of the Annunciation is one of the
most important in the Church calendar. It
celebrates the angel Gabriel's appearance to the
Virgin Mary (Lk.1:26-38), his announcement that
the Blessed Virgin had been chosen to be the
Mother of Our Lord, and Mary's fiat - her willing
acceptance of God's holy plan and the actual
Incarnation of Our Savior - the Word made flesh in
the womb of His mother, Mary.
Celebrated as a Marian feast, the Annunciation
dates back at least to the fifth century. When Mary
signaled to Gabriel her acceptance of God's Will,
Christ was conceived in her womb through the
power of the Holy Spirit. Mary becomes the
eminent figure she is only by God’s grace.
She is the human being who best, after Jesus,
exemplifies the possibilities of human existence.
She received into her lowliness the infinite love of
God. She shows how an ordinary human being can
reflect God in the ordinary circumstances of life.
She exemplifies what the Church and every
member of the Church is meant to become. She is
the ultimate product of the creative and redemptive
power of God. She manifests what the Incarnation
is meant to accomplish for all of us.
The Feast of the Annunciation is on 25th March,
nine full months before Christmas, the birthday of
Jesus, unless that date falls during Holy Week
or Easter Week or on a Sunday.

A triduum is a three-day period of prayer, usually in preparation for an

The Easter Triduum begins with the Vigil of Holy Thursday. It marks the end
