MOUNTAIN RANGE FROM RAMGARH—NEAR BHIMTAL NEARBY HILLS ON NEW YEAR EVE COLD WINTER MORNING — MOON OVER BIAS SNOW IS ENJOYABLE FROM DIRECTOR’S PEN — MATURITY OF ORGANIZATIONS Organizations could be defined as set of people working systematically for a common cause with defined line of command. Most organizations are born with trading as focus.– ideas or services or tangible goods. This facilitates keeping the risks at low level with low fixed costs. With maturity, focus shifts to manufacturing/ production, followed by marketing and finally the concerns for society. The questions of profitability and sustainability are answered as by-products of operations. At the childhood end, one can cite the examples of a vegetable vendor, milk vendor, street corner shop keeper, a preacher/ priest, a tuition teacher and so on. Manufacturing/ production orientation can be better explained by a fabrication workshop, fruits processing unit, a rice mill, component manufacturer, publishing house, film production unit and so on. In marketing orientation, greater thrust is on knowing the requirements of the consumer and design on the products and services accordingly. The examples could be a large food processing company, mobile phone company, NGO working for rural development, educational institutions, healthcare centres etc. The organizations finally reach state of maturity like in human life with societal orientation. There are several examples such as TCS, BHEL, Birla Groups, Mahindra & Mahindra, AIIMS, IITs, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, World Bank and many more. At this state, social concerns such as improving the quality of life, environmental issues, food security, social security, regional development, leadership in innovations could be the focus areas. Educational institutions those still struggling in the process of evolution may like to brainstorm, visualize their pathway and set milestones on their way towards maturity. Prof. B. S.
