Sunday:
The fourth Sunday of Lent is called
Laetare Sunday from the Latin word for
‘rejoice,’ ‘be glad,’ ‘celebrate.’ It’s also
the midpoint of our Lenten journey. As
we reflect on our Readings for today, their overall spirit is one of thankfulness
and rejoicing. In the 1st Reading from 2 Chronicles, the Israelite people rejoice
because King Cyrus has decreed that they can leave their fifty (50) year exile
in Babylon to return to their holy city Jerusalem. In the 2nd reading, St. Paul
calls us to rejoice in God’s great love for us; through Jesus’ saving death and
resurrection we are delivered from our exile in sinfulness into the freedom of
God’s children. In the Gospel, we rejoice because Jesus has been lifted up on
the Cross so that we might not perish in our sinfulness but have eternal life.
All these readings present us with wonderful examples of divine rescue or
redemption from sinfulness into new life. In turn, we invite others to enjoy
God’s divine life that sets us free.
How can we give thanks to God for such divine mercy? How can we
deepen the divine life which we share with each other in Christ? How can we
share our faith with those who are in need of God’s care and/or mercy? At
this midpoint in our Lenten journey, we can assess our progress, or lack of it,
as we journey with Jesus toward Jerusalem. Holy Week is only two weeks
away. Have we been faithful or have we become complacent? Have I/we
grown in love of God and love of neighbor? Or have we been on ‘automatic
pilot’? If we’re not growing, we’re stagnating or going backward at best.
I invite you to consider two upcoming events that could or should rekindle
the divine spark within. The first is our Lenten Communal Penance Service
on Saturday, March 21st. It can provide that moment of grace and
reconciliation that we need with God and each other. The second, of course, is
our upcoming Parish Mission with our cluster partner St. John Bosco from
Sunday, March 22nd through Wednesday, March 25th (the feast of the
Annunciation). Each evening service here at St. Robert’s will begin at 7pm.
Each gathering will challenge us to a deeper relationship with God in Christ
Jesus and with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Through forgiveness and
reconciliation, we can become a people of greater joy and thanksgiving and
outreach to those in need—in body, mind, and spirit.
Do consider attending all or some of our
Parish Mission. By the way, if you miss the
communal penance service on the 21st, there’s
another opportunity on the evening of
Tuesday, March 24th. The entire Mission is a
thankful response to the joyful gift of God to
us in Christ Jesus. St. Paul’s words from
Ephesians (2nd reading) should be read and
reread throughout the remainder of Lent and
Holy Week. Why? “For we are God’s
handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good
works that God has prepared in advance, that
we should live in them.”

Do you sometimes feel like Job from the old testament? Are
you struggling in your life with illness, grief, or other
problems that seem to be overwhelming to you? We have
trained Stephen Ministers available to help you with your
challenges in life. You do not have to suffer and struggle
alone. We are here to help you.
If you would like to have a Stephen Minister in your life, please call

Stephen Minister, pick up a Stephen Minister brochure from the literature

Parish Mission
Next Week
Our Spiritual Journey Begins!
Next Sunday night, March 22, our
"Parish Mission" begins. The opening of
the Mission will be at 7:00 p.m.
We begin the "spiritual journey" with
an appropriate question for the first
session: "JESUS, HOW DO WE KNOW
OF YOU?" We will look at our personal
relationship with Christ. “We Need To
Talk” Signed God!
The following night, the theme is
"Come, Follow Me." We will look at the
meaningfulness of being active in the
Church. “My Way is the Highway”
signed God!
The following evening will be the
opportunity for the Sacrament to
"Reconcile and Forgive". “What Part of
Thou Shalt Not … don’t you
understand?” signed God!
The final evening will touch on the
future growth of our parish to "Become a
People Of Purpose". “Do you have any
idea where you are going?” signed
God!
Invite your family and friends. We want
this to be a renewal of life for our
community. The mission will be
addressing issues faced by young and old
alike.
Also please bring a Bible with you. If
anyone needs a ride, please contact Linda
Hudy at (313) 937-1500.

Ministry Beacon 155
Confirmed Catholics, please read!
Confirmed Catholics are on a mission from God! By
virtue of our confirmation, we are sent into the world as
Apostles.
Chances are good that you know someone who is also a
confirmed Catholic but no longer practicing the faith.
Here is your chance to practice your Apostleship. Invite
them to Ministry Beacon 155, a six week journey to help
guide our distant sisters and brothers in faith back to the
Church. Ministry Beacon 155 offers a comfortable place
to take another look at the Church and discover how it can
make a difference in their life.
Regardless of the reason one
has been away, Ministry
Beacon 155 cuts through the
fog and confusion and safely
navigates through the troubled
waters. Our first session will be
held Wednesday, April 15.

Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for
bread, will give a stone? Matthew 7:9
Everyday Stewardship
I know a pastor who collects old
paschal candles. They never stand as
profoundly as they did when first
brought out at Easter. However, the
burnt wicks and melted wax represent
the many lives made new in baptism,
the faithful who have passed into the
next life, and the glory and grandeur of
another Easter Vigil and Easter season.
When entering a room with much
history, we often reflect, "If only these
walls could talk." What if a paschal
candle could speak? It would tell us of
each life that was filled with darkness
until the light of Christ entered into it.
It would tell us of infants who received
the promise of eternal life through their
parents' faith and testimony. We would
hear of adults who once were lost and
wandering and how now they were
found. It would share with us the
stories of pain and suffering that ended
in the loving arms of Jesus Christ at
death. It would tell us all of these
things, and would also remind us that it
existed to attest to the truth of the
Light, that through that Light all things
might be seen more clearly.
Do you have your baptismal candle
close by? It has shared a flame with one
of these paschal candles. It attests to the
truth that the Light still resides in you.
This Lent, bring it out and light it once
more. Use it to pray and reflect on your
life. Ask the Lord to grow that Light
inside you, that all around you may see
it. By this Light you have been able to
see more clearly. By the Light shining
more brightly in you, others might be
able to see more clearly as well.
Child nutrition programs are an investment in the future generation. Here
are some statistics from Bread for the World.
· 21.5 million children in low-income families receive free or reducedprice school lunches.
· 11.2 million children receive free or reduced-price school breakfasts.
· 2.4 million children receive meals during the summer at communitybased sites.
· 3.4 million children receive healthy meals and snacks in child care or
after-school programs.
· 8.3 million low-income infants, children under age 5, and pregnant
women receive WIC money for nutritious food and for healthcare.
Congress reviews child nutrition programs every five years. Visit
www.bread.org to let Congress know how important it is to fund these
essential programs.
Notes of Thanks to Our Parish
ST. CHRISTINE CHRISTIAN SERVICES:
On behalf of Christ the King Catholic
Church; we would like to thank St. Robert
Bellarmine Catholic Church and your
enthusiastic parishioners for their compassion,
kindness and the warmth of providing
Christmas gifts to the families we service in
our community.
For over 30 years our St. Vincent de Paul Conference has been helping
children and their families. It is because of your generosity we were able to
give many children and their families a memorable 2014 Christmas. We are
most grateful to you for continued support over the years! Please know that
our St. Vincent de Paul Conference and Christ the King Community will
remember all of the St. Robert Bellarmine Community in our prayers.
MISSION COUPON:
A note of thanks for all those contributing coupon inserts to the church. I
go through the coupon inserts and take out coupons that I think I will use to
buy items for Redford Interfaith Relief. I have donated food and numerous
hygiene products, i.e. shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.
Then I bring back the coupon inserts the next week and place them in the
coupon bin on the counter in the church hall for all parishioners to use.
If anyone else would like to drop off coupon inserts, it would be much
appreciated. Just take out the coupons you want first and then leave the
coupon inserts on the counter in the church hall. This is a long-term,
ongoing project.
If you would like to learn about two (2) coupon websites, you can email
me at [email protected] and I will be more than happy to email them
to you. Check them out and see how much you can save. You are helping
the less fortunate at Redford Interfaith Relief with your coupons.

Dementia Series in the Northwest Wayne Vicariate
Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia claim more than the
person diagnosed. They impact everyone in the family. In an effort
to provide support to persons with dementia and their caregivers,
the parishes of the Northwest Wayne Vicariate will be hosting a
series of free monthly presentations with HOPE Dementia Ministry
LLC. Everyone is welcome. Dementia is often looked at as a
disease of loss with an emphasis on what the person can no longer
do. Together, let’s begin to break down the stigma of dementia and
focus on understanding the changes, seeing the person first instead
of the disease, and emphasizing what is still there and what a person
can still do. The presentations will take place on the 4th Wednesday
of the month beginning in April 2015 and running through April
2016. A different church will host each presentation.
Easter Friday Pilgrimage of Eight Detroit Historic Churches
On April 10th, you are welcome to join Prayer Pilgrimages as we

track and the other schools. At this time, our first meet
is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 11th.
We have been contacted by one of our neighboring
parishes inviting our 5th and 6th grade girls to play
softball this season. Any girls that would like to play
should contact the SRB athletic department as soon as
possible for additional information. Practice begins in
mid – March with the season ending in Late May or
early June.
I know it might seem early but we are already
making plans for athletics for next fall. Registration
forms will be distributed soon for the fall sports of
Volleyball and Soccer beginning in September 2015.
Keep in mind that these activities are open to all
students of the parish no matter what school they
attend. Practice sessions will begin in August with the
regular season beginning in early September.
