Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
When the people heard about this miracle, they went out onto the
streets, and as Christ was passing by they shouted out “Hosanna!
Blessed is our King!” At the same moment the Pharisees and
Archpriests were holding a meeting and plotting to kill Jesus.

Palm Sunday is one of the most dramatic feasts in the Liturgy of the Church. Have
you ever been in a crowd when you were ashamed of your own conduct? Palm
Sunday is the Feast of the crowd, who on one day call out “Hosanna to the Son of
David” and a few days later shout “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”
The same Christ walks through both crowds, accepters and rejecters, and He
continues to walk throughout crowds, never distancing himself from us, even when
we betray Him as we do when we betray our better selves. It is a calling of all
Christians to be Christ in the crowds, moving always among them, praying always
never to be led by them.

Entrance Antiphon
Six days before the Passover, when the Lord came into the city of Jerusalem, the children ran to meet him; in their
hands they carried palm branches and with a loud voice cried out: Hosanna in the highest! Blessed are you, who
have come in your abundant mercy! O gates, lift your heads; grow higher, ancient doors. Let him enter, the king of
glory! Who is this king of glory? He, the Lord of hosts, he is the king of glory. Hosanna in the highest! Blessed
are you, who have come in your abundant mercy!
Entrance Hymn:
No 390 (Gather) Hail Redeemer
Opening Prayer
Almighty ever-living God, who as an example of humility for the human race to follow caused our Saviour to take
flesh and submit to the Cross, graciously grant that we may heed his lesson of patient suffering and so merit a
share in his Resurrection.
First Reading: Isaiah 50:4-7
The servant of the Lord said: “The Lord God has given me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a
word. Morning by morning he wakens - wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught. “The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was
not rebellious, I did not turn backwards. “I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard; I
did not hide my face from insult and spitting. “The Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my
face like flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame”.
Responsorial Psalm: No 22 (Gather)
My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
Second Reading: Philippians 2:6-11
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as
something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human
form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God highly exalted him and
gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under
the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Gospel Acclamation
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory!
Christ became obedient for us even to death, dying on the cross. Therefore God raised him on high and gave him a name
above all other names.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory!
Gospel: Mark 15:1-39
The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ
Offertory Hymn:
No 308 (Gather) Jesus Remember Me
Communion Antiphon:
Father, if this chalice cannot pass without my drinking it,
your will be done.
Communion Hymn:
No 336 (Gather) Were You There?
Recessional Hymn:
Leave in silence in preparation for Easter

Reflecting on the Readings for each Sunday in Lent: Lent is a precious time of grace. The weekly readings for the Sunday
Masses are rich and deserve our prayerful attention. Between the 8.30am and 10.30am Masses each week, the readings for the
current Sunday are prayerfully dwelt upon in an atmosphere of quiet reflection and sharing. Please join this group which meets in the
Annexe at the rear of the Hall. Thank you. Marg Walsh.
Parish Manager: The parish of St Canice is to establish a new full-time position of Parish Manager to be responsible for the running
of the parish office and the co-ordination and supervision of the great variety of services and outreach which make up the life of this
very vibrant inner city parish. The Manger will work with the Parish Priest in the supervision of other staff and volunteers and will be
responsible for a wide range of administrative tasks, including, but not limited to: financial oversight, data entry, volunteer
co-ordination, computer skills, parish meeting attendance. Given the nature of the work and the community to be served, a
commitment to Church and its social justice outreach would be essential for any candidate for this role. If you are interested please
contact the Parish Office on 9358 5229.
Please support our returned Veterans by purchasing a copy of Doin' It For The Troops. This DVD is only $24.95 + postage which is
great value. Every single cent raised goes towards helping our returned Veterans who suffer from PTSD and their families
nationally. Many wonderful artists came on board for this project. The DVD was completely made from sponsorship money and
donor money which is how we are able to give back 100% to our returned Veterans. Contact the Repat Foundation on 8275 1039 or
go to www.therepatfoundation.org.au to order your copy. You can follow Doin' It For The Troops on both Facebook and Twitter. The Facebook link is https://www.facebook.com/doinitforthe troops?ref=hl#!/and Twitter is @Dvdtroops
St Canice's Vinnies Conference News: St Canice's Vinnies is again running the Gorman House BBQ for people in recovery from
substance addiction, and we welcome you to attend. It is at 11.45am until 1.30pm at St Vincent's Hospital.
As always, we hold the BBQ on the first Sunday of every month. This time we welcome three new volunteers from the parish, which
is great news for such a valuable work! We hope to extend this work to twice a month if interest continues to grow. As well,
members of the Conference have taken over care of the garage sale, previously run by our recently deceased and remembered
member, Laurie Kennedy. If you are interested in helping out with either of these activities, please contact Mick McIntyre on
0414853650. God bless and thank you so much for your ongoing support.
