Dear Parishioners,
As we begin this Palm Sunday, we enter into the holiest
week of the church year. These days of Holy Week are
not about looking at history, but engaging in mystery.
The mystery of Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem,
his stooping at the feet of his disciples to wash their feet,
the veneration of the cross and breaking the darkness of
our Lenten fast with single light of the Easter Candle.
As we begin this Holy Week, the passion account of
Mark invites us to reflect on the journey to the cross. The
liturgy of Holy Thursday calls us to wash feet and be
about the business of doing what Jesus did- attend to the
poor, bring food to those who hunger and offer sight to
the blind. On Good Friday, we listen to the passion
account of John and know that death is not the final
answer. We kiss the cross as a sign of our reverence for
the very symbol that marks our Christian way of life.
And on Holy Saturday night, after the sun has set, we
shall burn the purple pieces of paper, with our prayer
intentions, that were on the window sills throughout this
Lenten Season. The fire will light the Paschal Candle,
break the darkness of sin and suffering and invite us to
celebrate the rising of Christ to new life.
I won't share with you, here, the schedule of our Holy
Week liturgies. You will find a full listing of every event
during Holy Week on the cover. But what I do ask is
that every parishioner make the liturgies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the East Vigil, your single greatest
priority this week. For it is in our celebration of these
liturgies that we tell the story of our salvation in Christ
Jesus. We know all to well that there are some in our
world, through violence and persecution, who are making
every attempt to wipe out what we cherish and believe as
Catholics and Christians. This week we tell the story of
our faith. Our children and grandchildren need to know
not simply our history, but what we hold dear in mystery.
Join us during this week so that the "greatest story ever
told" might live again in us and through us.

Invitation to: “Women Only!”
On Friday, May 8th. from 6:00 – 9:00 PM, we are launching
our first “Women’s Evening of Reflection!”
Plan on attending as we share a light supper, a presentation
entitled, “Am I a Mary or a Martha?” plus opportunities for
group prayer and quiet time for individual prayer, and a simple
activity of remembrance.
This is an opportunity for women of the parish and their
friends to withdraw from the hustle and bustle of daily life and
spend time with the Lord and each other. The Lord intended for
us to enjoy life and this evening will provide that opportunity!

Food and Fun at the Book Club! Join us for light refreshments on Thursday, April 16th. at 7:00 PM in the Rectory Family Room for a discussion on award-winning novelist Jeannette
Walls’ new novel, THE SILVER STAR. Set in the 70’s, two
young teen girls, daughters of a flaky mother who is “trying to
find herself,” become independent and responsible in the frequent absences of their “budding artistic mother.” The girls
leave California and travel to Virginia seeking refuge in the
maternal side of the family they have never met, and to a town
where their mother is not welcome. The younger girl becomes
the voice of the story as her feistiness and sense of justice confronts the stereotypes of her mother’s southern hometown.
This is a novel about triumph over adversity, optimism over
cynicism, and people who find a way to love one another despite their flaws.
