Itinerary
DAY 1 Kuala Lumpur to Istanbul and onwards to Ankara
Welcome to Istanbul. Upon arrival, you will be met by Golden Holidays
representative before being transferred on air-conditioned coach. Your
first visit today is Hippodrome Square, which is the centre of sports and
political activities during the era of Constantinople and even now of
Turkey today.
Next, we will stop at Hagia Sophia or commonly known as St. Sophia, one
of the great architectural marvels of the ancient world. Marvel the
hauntingly beautiful interior decoration of this former Greek Orthodox
patriarchal basilica (church) which was later turned into an imperial
mosque, and now a museum in Istanbul.
Proceed to visit the revered historical Blue Mosque or fondly called Sultanahmet Camii in Turkish. The mosque is famed for its glimmering blue tiles
surrounding the walls of interior. The mosque was built between 1609 and
1616 years, during the rule of Ahmed I and just like many other mosques, it
also comprises of a tomb of the founder, a madrasa and a hospice. The
Blue Mosque is undoubtedly one of the largest religious complexes in
Istanbul.
From there, continue to visit Topkapi Palace, once the seat of the Ottoman
Empire. Today, it is the largest and oldest palace in the world to survive to
our day. The palace in 1924 was turned into a museum at Ataturk's request.
Situated on the acropolis, the site of the first settlement in Istanbul, it
commands an impressive view of the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus and the
Sea of Marmara. The palace is a complex surrounded by 5km of walls and
occupies an area of 700,000 sq. m at the tip of the historical peninsula.
