75,093 Swiss francs per annum, after deduction for staff

NATURE OF APPOINTMENT
:
Fixed term of one year with possibility of renewal pending the
availability of funds and satisfactory performance after an initial
probationary period of one year, which can be extended up to a
maximum of two years.
DUTIES
:
Under the general guidance of the Director, Language, Conference
and Publishing Services Department, and the direct supervision of
the Chief, Documentation and Publications Management, the
incumbent will carry out the following duties:

Prepare the layout for publications based on the formatting of
the original language manuscript, adapting it to Russian and, if
necessary, to the other working languages; format documents
from various sources and produce camera-ready copies for
distribution;

Ensure that changes indicated in the draft document have been
incorporated and alert responsible authorities if obvious errors
or discrepancies are found in the translated text;

Follow each stage of the document preparation process to
ensure the production of high-quality, camera-ready copies for
electronic distribution;

Manage the files of documents and publications in accordance
with established procedures for online archiving and publishing;

Proofread Russian translations of letters, documents, reports,
publications, etc., checking them against the original English;
bring to the attention of the translator/editor concerned any error
or discrepancy requiring his or her intervention;

Format documents from various sources, prepare layout of
camera-ready copies, and ensure that all necessary changes
have been made to the final version;

When necessary, perform the full functions of a text-processing
clerk;
-
Carry out other relevant duties, as required.

promotion to that grade within three years of appointment, subject to satisfactory appraisal of performance.

QUALIFICATIONS
:
Education
Completed secondary school education or equivalent technical
or commercial studies with corresponding diploma.
Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible
experience in the production of publications and documentation
for conferences and/or proofreading, including at least three
years in an international organization.
Other requirements
The incumbent must have passed specialized tests in the
United Nations, an international organization or in the publishing
field. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications,
Google Apps and specialized desktop publishing software
(InDesign, Contribute, etc.). Familiarity with the documents
production system for conferences. Availability to work in shifts
during sessions, for overtime and on-call assignments,
depending on the needs of the service. Ability to work well in a

Russian as a principal language essential. Excellent knowledge
of English and working knowledge of French. Knowledge of an
additional official language of the WMO Secretariat would be an
advantage.
(Note: the working languages of the WMO Secretariat are
English and French. The official languages of the Organization
are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)

:
1 July 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter
