as possible.

can be recognized for all your hard work.

Hot Stuff!
STRINGS: Congratulations to the NPHS String Orchestra for winning the Outstanding Orchestra Award
at the Heritage Festival in San Diego. The orchestra was also selected to participate in the Festival of Gold
for 2016. In addition, the orchestra also received the top rating of “superior” at the 2016 SCSBOA Festival
competition.
GSA: The NPHS recognition of the Day of Silence will be held on Monday, April 13th (the day we return
from spring break). To participate, you must sign up in advance so we can inform your teachers. Sign up
at lunch on the quad all this week.
FIDM FASHION CLUB is holding a fundraiser with Chipotle Mexican Grill on Tuesday, March 31st
from 4-8pm. Support Fashion Club by eating delicious food right here in Newbury Park!
PROM PICTURES: Visual Photography will be taking prom pictures at NPHS in the GAR from 4:00pm7:00pm. Stop by on your way to prom for professional pictures.
ATTENTION ALL JUNIOR AND SENIOR STUDENTS! The NPHS PFA After Prom Committee is
hosting an all-night After Prom Party for the junior and senior class at the Roxy Theater in Camarillo.
Attendance is open to all Junior and Senior students and their guests. Admission is included in your Prom
ticket purchase. If you are not going to Prom, you can just purchase an after prom ticket for $20 a person
or pay at the door $30. The party begins at 11:30pm and ends at 5 a.m. when the grand prizes will be
awarded. Amazing Prizes!!! Festivities will include movies, a magician, photo booth, character artist, DJ,
games and challenges, all-you-can-eat food and drinks, candy bar, dip ‘n dots and prize give aways all
night long. It’s a night you won’t want to miss. Before you can purchase tickets to the after prom party,
you need to obtain the After Prom Party permission slip online at www.nphs.org (you can find this in the
bottom right margin on our home page) or from Kathy Barker in the Activities Office. Tickets will be on
sale for those students who only wish to go to the After Prom Party. We will be selling tickets on the quad
near the student store on March 18th, 20th, 24th, 26th , April 2nd,14th and April 17th at lunch time. They also
will be sold April 14th and April 17th from 9:45 to 10:15 am. Pre-sale Tickets cost $20.00 and at the door
tickets will cost $30.00. Please contact Lisa Rogers (805-207-0766) with any questions you may have.
CHEERLEADING TRY-OUTS: Mandatory Parent Meeting, Monday, March 30th, 7-8pm, NPHS
Library. Try-out packet distributed. AT LEAST ONE PARENT MUST ATTEND. Student attendance
optional. Try-Out packet DUE DATE: Friday, May 1st, 4pm to Mrs. Barker in Activities Office. NO
late/incomplete packets accepted after this date.
HONORS/AP/IB PLACEMENT TESTS: Any students that are interested in taking a placement test for
Honors/ AP / or IB consideration can sign up now on the front page of the counseling website. Students
that earned a C in any Honors, AP, or IB course also need to take the placement test to be reconsidered for
placement into these classes. The link is in the upper right-hand corner of the counseling front page
All JUNIORS who selected ROP courses during your registration with your counselor, please stop by the
office to pick up a parent form.
SCHOOL CENTS IS EARNING FOR OUR SCHOOL! Bring your original receipts from the Oaks
stores and restaurants dated September 1, 2014 through April 30, 2015 to Guest Services. We are now
including FARMERS MARKET receipts!!! Earn 500 points when you follow The Oaks on
Instagram/OaksMall. Earn 500 points per person when you sign in at Kids Club. Earn 2,000 points when
you adopt a pet from Paw Works by April 30. Bring your receipts to the front office or take them over to
the customer service kiosk at the Oaks Mall located near the Cheesecake Factory. If you would like your
receipts back, just put a note on your envelope or the envelopes we provide in the office and we will be
sure to return them to you!
THE THOUSAND OAKS TEEN CENTER offers FREE math tutoring Mondays & Thursdays, 45:30pm. Our tutors can help with just about any aspect or level of math, including test prep, homework and




skill enhancement. Just drop in to receive tutoring. First come, first served. For more information, please
call the Teen Center at 805 494-5156.
ATTENDANCE: Student’s attendance history can be monitored via q connect. This is a great way to make
sure that absences are cleared in a timely manner and tardy issues can be addressed early on. As a reminder,
please remember to call the attendance hotline to clear your child’s absence within 72 hours.
TEACHERS: Don’t forget to give your aspiring students who score 100% or higher on their test a ticket
for a chance to be named the next Purrrfect Panther. This is a drawing once a month!
FRONT DESK: Reminder to all students. No instruments or sports equipment, including cheer equipment
will be allowed to be dropped off or stored in the lobby. We will not be responsible for them. You must
make arrangements before the start of school to store these in a class.
LOST & FOUND: Students are responsible for checking the lost and found located in front of the office
outside the Counseling doors for any misplaced items. Please note that all found wallets, electronics and
jewelry should be turned into the Receptionist in the front office. All items not claimed will be donated at
the end of every month.




At What’s Coming Up!
FUTURE PANTHER NIGHT: Newbury Park High School invites all new Panthers and their families to
join us for Future Panther Night on April 14th in the gym. Please tell all your parents who have an incoming
8th grader about this event.
OUT OF STATE COLLEGE FAIR: The College and Career Center is hosting an Out-of-State Mini
College Fair on Monday, April 20th at Lunch Time in the Quad. Learn about unique academic
opportunities, scholarships and financial aid by meeting and talking directly with representatives from
various colleges and universities. This event is Free and is open to all students and parents. There will also
be an informative presentation on out-of-state reduced tuition rates for California students on the same day
at 10:30 AM in the CCC. Sign up and get a PASS from Mrs. Ricafort to attend this session.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Newbury Park High School is hosting the Special Olympics on Saturday, May
2nd. We are in need of students and clubs to help with this event. Not only do you get volunteer hours, but
you also gain wonderful memories. Got to Room E-5 for more information.

CLUBS PLEASE REMEMBER TO COMPLETE A MARQUEE REQUEST FOR YOUR CLUB EVENTS AND
SUBMIT THEM TO MRS. SMILOR IN COUNSELING.
 CSF MEMBERS: Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 31st at lunch in Room D-29. Seniors,
please make sure you come by and check your Gold Seal status.
 JOIN RELAY FOR LIFE! Support the American Cancer Society and have a great time with your
friends! Relay is an afternoon of fun and bands and games with your friends while raising money to
support the fight against cancer. Join or make a team on “RelayforLife.org.” Come to B-12 on Tuesdays
for more information! The event is May 16th.
 NPHS LITERARY MAGAZINE: Are you a creative writer? An artist? Are you interested in learning
magazine production? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, the NPHS Literary Magazine wants
you! Meet Monday, March 30 at lunch in Room B-2 for more information. See you there!!
 TEACHERS FOR TOMORROW: Have you ever thought about being a teacher? There is a new club
on campus for NPHS students who are interested in the teaching profession. Please join us on Thursdays at
lunch in Room D27. All are welcome.
 FIDM FASHION CLUB: Do you have an interest in Fashion, Jewelry Making or Sketching? Come join
Fashion Club Thursdays at the start of lunch in C27. At our next three meetings, we’ll have cookies for
everyone to enjoy!!
 HARRY POTTER ALLIANCE: Come join the Harry Potter Alliance to be a part of a real life
Dumbledore’s army and combat the forces of evil in today’s society. We meet on Thursdays in room B21.
 NPMTBC: Newbury Park Mountain Bike Club meets in Mr. Atkins room every other Wednesday. Join us!
 RECYCLING CLUB: is earning money for NPHS clubs and sports! Make sure to recycle your cans and
bottles in the bins across campus. Applications for monthly earnings can be found in Mrs. Barker’s office.
Please do not throw trash in the bins designated for recycling.
 G.S.A.: The Gay-Straight Alliance meets every Friday at lunch in room B2. Please join us. Everyone is
welcome!
 INTERACT CLUB: Invites you to join them every Monday at lunch in the GAR.
 AMERICAN COMPUTER SCIENCE LEAGUE CLUB: Come join the computer Science Club to learn
and show off your problem solving skills and compete in the ACSL competition! Meet us on Tuesdays in
room E2.
 AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY: Welcomes you to meet with them every other Friday. Refreshments
provided.
 SPEECH & DEBATE: Come join Speech and Debate! It meets every Wednesday at lunch in Mrs.
Altmire’s room D-20 upstairs in the D building.
 FRENCH CLUB: French Club meets during lunch in B-29. Join us!
