South Meck odyssey of the Mind thinks outside pandora’s Box
T
he South Meck Odyssey of the Mind team took FIRST PLACE at the Regional competition that was held at
Wingate University! They competed in Problem 3, Pandora's Box, in Division III. A blended team of students
from Myers Park and South Meck came in SECOND PLACE for problem 3 Pandora's Box Division III. Both first and
second place teams will now move on to the State Competition being held at Appalachian State. South Meck
was also represented in Problem 4, Lose Your Marbles, in Division III. The team took home a THIRD PLACE win!

Back from national competition at
the USA Gymnastic’s Nastia Liukin
Cup, where she placed 2nd, top
Junior Olympic gymnast Anna
Glenn is at home at South Meck.
W

anna outscores the competition in a stellar uneven bars performance
and misses placing 1st at the 2015 nastia liukin cup by only 0.025 points.
hen she was a freshman, Anna, along with
her twin sister, accepted full-ride gymnastics
scholarships at UCLA. A 2016 South Meck graduate,
Anna’s favorite subjects are science and math. “I’m
thinking about majoring in something in the medical field.” During the school year Anna practices 4
hours a day from Monday to Saturday. She says the
punishing rigors of gymnastics has helped her in
school to manage time well, organize her homework, and learn to appreciate hard work and discipline. “Gymnastics is all about hard work and you
really can’t get anywhere unless you put all of your
heart into it,” says Anna.

c-tech2 (computers and technology at Virginia tech) is a two week residential program
held June 28 – July 11, 2015. It is designed to develop and sustain the interests of women in engineering. Students spend the majority of their time involved in hands-on activities designed to increase their interest in and
knowledge of applications of engineering to real world situations. The target population for the program is rising junior and senior high school girls. More information and the on-line application can be found at
