School Newsletter Term 1 Week 9 2015 Dear Parents/Caregivers

School Newsletter
Term 1 Week 9 2015
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Welcome to this edition of our school
newsletter. This term has come to an end.
Even though it has been a short term it
seemed to fly by. It is worthwhile to reflect on
some of the achievements we have
completed in such a short time. Some of
these highlights have been:











Year 7 classes all completed
successful camps;
Swimming sports plus a most
successful participation in the Inter
Intermediate sports last Tuesday;
Initial testing of all children;
Year 7 classes completing their
Christchurch study;
Our Student Council has been
selected;
Our House Captains are settling into
their rolls;
Auditions have been held for the
production;
Teams have been selected for next
terms sports competitions at Hagley
Park;
The first Girls’ Self Defence course has
just finished and the next course starts
next term;
Korean Dance work begun;
International Food Festival.
I am sure I have missed things but you can
see that it has been a busy time. Children
are often in the position of having too much to
do but it is good to be busy and be given
many of these opportunities.
Next term will be just as busy with a big
feature being our school production in
Week 9. We will look forward to seeing this
develop over the next few weeks.
On a sad note we say goodbye to our school
councillor, Chrystal Witte. She has been with
us for the last 10 years helping support our
students and families. We wish her all the
very best for her next chapter in her life.
I hope the last week of school goes well for
you and your family, and that you have a
safe and enjoyable holiday break. I look
forward to seeing you all next term
Kind regards

Does anyone know an accountant who would be willing to help the school by doing an
Audit Review of the PTA’s 2014 accounts?
This is necessary to retain our charitable status. Our accounts are in excellent order, and well

Please contact Geraldine McCormick at school on 348 7718

Timber wanted for Flag Pole
Garden
We are looking to re-landscape a
garden using planter boxes. Would
any parents have access to treated
timber that could be used for this?
We thought that we could have a
working bee one weekend before the
weather turns for the worse.
If you can help with timber – please
contact our caretaker. We will let you
know the time and date for the working
bee when we have sourced the timber.
The dates are all Monday’s: 15 June, 22
June, 29 June and 6 July.
Year 8 Wellington Camp
The total cost of $525.00 for this year’s Wellington Camp has been charged on all
Year 8 accounts.
Please note, the $100.00 non-refundable deposit is due for payment by the start of
Term 2 as flights for this trip need to be booked.
We understand that this is a fairly substantial cost for some families and if this trip is
going to cause your family financial hardship please contact our Principal Phil
Tappenden as soon as possible.

Counsellor
Hello Parents, Caregivers and Whanau
Who would believe the last nine weeks have
passed so quickly and we are now into Easter and
the school break. That got me into thinking about
the holidays. I have some ideas you may like to
do for the holiday with your family. Maybe some
of the suggestions are new? Have a go at
working through these ideas as any one of them
may reduce frustrations by keeping hands and the
mind busy.
Quality time spent with parents has been the
number one item in surveys for years! It is the
time the children will remember the best after all
the book work, play station time and other times
they have!
The article is called ‘Ways to Entertain the
Family in the Winter’. You may view these
ideas by following the link:
http://kirkwood.school.nz/our-students/teachersstudents-blog/counsellor/
I look forward to your feedback. All the best for a
rewarding Easter break and have a great holiday.
Warm regards
Chrystal, Counsellor
