Abandoned Accounts Notice
An account is considered abandoned after its owner has not
initiated contact with Freedom for a specified period of time,
based on the account type. For example, five years for savings
accounts and ten years for CDs. Once an account legally qualifies
as abandoned, Freedom is required to turn it over (escheat it) to
the State of North Carolina. We have no choice.
If your account is escheated, you can recover your funds from the
State, but that is an irritation you can avoid. To be on the safe
side, make sure you have contacted us within the past five years.
If you have any doubt, call Sandra Winchester at 252-442-8888
ext. 232, by May 4, 2015 and ask to have the contact documented
in our electronic records. Remember, by law, you must initiate
the contact. If we are required to escheat your account, we assess
a one-time fee of $25. That fee is non-refundable and cannot be
recovered from the State.
Avoid all of the abandoned account hassle and expense,
and check in with us today.
