All entrants, regardless of category, must be legal United States residents, residing in one of the fifty (50)
states or the District of Columbia, and be eighteen (18) years of age or older as of March 1, 2014.
1. Each recipe must be original, and created and owned exclusively by the contestant submitting the
recipe. Previously published recipes will be disqualified and will not be eligible to win a prize.
Each entrant mush have the right to disclose the recipe, including the dish’s name, ingredients
and all associated information.
2. Recipes must feature a Maple Leaf Farms White Pekin Duck product and a list of ingredients in
order of use with step-by-step instructions for preparation and plating documented on the entry
form.
3. Recipes should feature duck in a non-traditional way (contestants are encouraged to submit
recipes other than roasted whole duck or sautéed and sauced duck breast). Recipes may be for
any meal part: soup, sandwich, salad, appetizer, entrée or dessert.
4. Contestants are strongly encouraged to submit a recipe photo with their recipe. File size of
photos should be reduced before sending.
5. All entries submitted become the property of Maple Leaf Farms, Inc. Submission of a recipe in this
contest gives the sponsor the right to publish or use the recipe (with rights to adapt) without
compensation to the entrant and to use the entrant’s name and/or likeness for advertising and
publicity purposes. Entries may not infringe third party rights. Entries will not be acknowledged or
returned.
You may submit up to three recipes beginning March 1, 2014. Each recipe must be submitted separately
via mail or online using our entry form. Go to www.mapleleaffarms.com/chefcontest to download an entry
form to print. Only one prize will be awarded per contestant.
To enter online go to www.mapleleaffarms.com/chefcontest to complete the entry form and click “agree”
to confirm agreement with these rules.
If entering by mail, each recipe must be submitted separately with: (i) signed copy of the contest rules; (ii)
a completed entry form; (iii) the contestant’s personal contact information; and (iv) documentation of
student enrollment, if applicable (mail or email a scanned copy of documentation).

Judging Process:
1. All recipes will be judged “blindly” to ensure objectivity.
2. A culinary professional will select the top 20 recipes from the chef category and the student category
based on the following criteria:
• Recipe Accuracy/Methodology (50%) – Recipes must have a clear, concise list of ingredients in
order of use with proper preparation sequence and proper duck preparation. For tips on duck

• Creativity/Originality (50%) – Recipes will be judged for use of duck in creative and non-traditional
ways
3. A team of trained culinarians will evaluate the top twenty (20) recipes previously selected from each
category, using the criteria above, to determine the five (5) finalists in the professional chef category and
the five (5) finalists in the culinary student category.
4. The recipes of the five (5) finalists in each category will be prepared by trained chefs at Maple Leaf
Farms’ facility, and the prize winners will be chosen by members of Maple Leaf Farms’ executive staff
based on: Flavor (60%) and Creativity/Originality (40%).
Prize Winners
All prize winners will be announced on September 30, 2014. Prize Winners will be notified by telephone.
If the contestant is not available by telephone, Maple Leaf Farms will attempt to reach the contestant by
email.
Professional Chef Contest:
One (1) grand prize winner will receive $10,000 cash
Four (4) professional chef finalists will receive $1,000 cash each
Culinary Student Contest:
One (1) grand prize winner will receive $2,500 cash and chef’s knife roll
The culinary school of the culinary student grand prize winner will receive and assortment of Maple Leaf
Farms duck products valued at $1,000
Four (4) culinary student finalists will receive $500 cash, each, and a chef’s knife roll
Limit one prize per person. All winners are solely responsible for all federal, state and local taxes and
fees associated with the receipt of any prize. Maple Leaf Farms, Inc. is not responsible for lost,
misdirected or incomplete entries.
