This ICNERE 2014 is the continuation of the ICNERE 2012 The International Conference on Nano Electronics Research and Education, 8 – 10 July 2012, held at The Magani Hotel, Kuta, Bali, Indonesia. The aims of ICNERE is to facilitate an important forum and opportunities for researchers and engineers from the industries, and professors as well as graduate students from universities to establish a scientific network and to discuss new ideas and developments in the research, education and technology of electrical and electronics engineering, especially in the development of nano electronics research and education. Let me give a brief view of Faculty of Engineering University of Indonesia. Our school is the largest faculty at University of Indonesia with student body reaching about 5803 students, distributed 60% at undergraduate or bachelor level and the rest 40% at postgraduate (master and doctoral) students. We have 7 (seven) departments, i.e. civil, mechanical, electrical, metallurgical and materials, architecture, chemical and industrial engineering. For educational operation purposes, these 7 departments are distributed to 12 study programs. Currently, Faculty of Engineering UI has 203 full-time academic staffs with the following composition: 50 full-professors (25%), 72 associate professors (35%), 59 assistant professors (29%), and 22 lecturers (11%). The number is well-distributed and it has been providing good impact for the academic atmosphere in terms of teaching and research activities. The research focus in our faculty is defined as “Integrated Design in Urban Eco-Technology for Quality Human Life and Environment”. This theme covers all research strength in engineering and provides spacious room for building multidisciplinary research. More specifically, I do hope this important event will strengthen collaborative interactions such as staff and student exchange, international joint publication and public lecture between Faculty of Engineering UI and Shizuoka University so that the various advancements in research and education achieved by Shizuoka University could be adopted as a good model for Indonesian scholars. In the future I expect ICNERE will attract participants from other universities or research institutes worldwide.
