developments, the copper distribution plant coupled with advancements in copper technologies such as

The copper plant can now be leveraged to extend services deeper, even in rural areas. The operational bottlenecks associated with turning up, testing, managing, and maintaining an increasing number of advanced
services on the local copper infrastructure are driving the need to automate the last mile.
COMPACT AND MODULAR ADFs
Simpler Networks, the recognized technology leader in Automated Distribution Frame (ADF) solutions, introduces
the EZ-EDGE, a family of compact ADFs that remotely activate cross connections in Remote Central Offices (RCOs)
and outdoor cabinets. Available in 50-line increments, the EZ-EDGE can be configured to enable flow-through
provisioning of small-capacity, pole-mounted xDSL platforms and can be sized up to accommodate the wide range
of street cabinet and RCO connectivity needs. Simpler Networks’ products are based on patented miniature
latching-relay technology that enable it to achieve the highest density ADFs in the world while delivering a
non-blocking architecture that can provide years of remote service provisioning.
Only a few mounting spaces are required in the cabinet.

The next example shows a small
size remote serving 50 lines
(pole-mounted in rural areas for
example). The local exchange
remains and continues to provide POTS. Splitters added to the
funnel allow for the remote
activation of high-speed services
such as VDSL and G.fast once
requested.

Many service providers are actually replacing their local
exchanges with fiber-fed remotes which offer the full suite of
services. The following is an example of such a cabinet serving
600 lines. Simpler Networks' high-density ADF fits into standard
19" or 23" central office equipment racks and most existing
outdoor cabinets necessitating just a few mounting spaces.

CENTRALIZED OPERATIONS AND
MANAGEMENT INTEGRATION
The EZ-EDGE is easily managed locally and remotely
via its SNMP interface. The EZ-EDGE can be
integrated into SNMP-based management systems
or via the EZ-FLOW Element Manager. The EZ-FLOW
consolidates the operations of all EZ-EDGE deployed
in a region. Flow-through provisioning can be easily
accommodated via interface adaptation on
EZ-FLOW.
RECORDS ACCURACY
Once in place, the EZ-EDGE ensures the access plant
records are aligned with the field. This translates into
accurate billing, pro-active trouble shooting, elimination of false dispatch, and optimized utilization of
VDSL resources.
