racer communication

You’re in for a great race at Dale Hollow. The Park is beautiful, the Lake is
clear, and the food and accommodations are superb. We’re really excited
about turning you loose on this 6 Hour course and seeing what happens! As
promised, this one will be all about good race strategy, decisions, and time
management.
We have over 100 racers coming out to play; a bunch of first-timers and
several veterans that will be in-it to win-it. With that said, if you’d read
over this little communication it’ll make your weekend go much more
smoothly.

If a team wishes to use their
own PFD/paddles or boat, they need to be
staged between 7:00am to 9:00am Saturday
morning at the designated area by the boat
ramp. If you arranged for rentals, they will
be staged for you already.
No other gear may be left with your
paddle gear – paddles and PFDs only. Do
not try to squirrel away water, food, clothes
or ANYTHING else with your boats
Bring your bikes to the START –
there is NO staging for your bikes.
View from a sweet checkpoint set atop an overlook.
The amount of poison ivy within the Park that you’ll be traipsing
through is significant enough for us to mention it in writing, which
means it’s pretty thick. Plan accordingly.
All mandatory gear included on the list must
be carried at all times for the legs
specified. Be prepared for gear-checks.
Each team/solo will receive one 1:24,000 scale map and race instructions
printed on waterproof paper (size is 11 x 17). You will get your map at
check in – check in will not start prior to 7:30am.
MANDATORY GEAR LIST
Note, you may (or may not) find the Dale Hollow Park Map useful; a copy
can be found in the main lobby of the Lodge or online at this link. We’ve
GPS’d the trails and overlaid them on your actual race-map. Generally,
the trails on the Park Map are pretty inaccurately depicted, so use at your
own discretion.
If you’re attending the free navigation
Friday evening, meet at the Shelter (you’ll
see the sign to the shelter right after the
campground turnoff coming in to the Park).
Pants and a compass are a good idea – mind
the poison ivy.

are a current member.
