I-A Game Theory and Collective Decision-Making
Students will be placed in a paradox of decision-making simulation. Without collaborating,
each group will take on the roles of City officials, competing for limited resources for their
respective ‘wards’. This activity will teach a foundational economics and political-science
theory, decision-making and negotiating skills and the ability to succeed in groups under stress.

I-C Travel the World
Have you ever had a friend from a different country? Are you interested in learning about
another culture? Join us as we “travel “ to Asia – by getting a chance to play fun games, see
pictures and videos from Korean or Japanese pop culture, and learn about and discuss cultural
differences. We will learn how to make a snack and get to eat it, too!!
I-D Explore History: Explore Media. Explore Opportunity
What does it take to be an explorer? Join National History Day in Missouri for an interactive
time travel experience where you make the decisions. Go beyond the fame of historic
Missourians and choose for yourself whether or not they are true explorers. You also will find
out how you can unleash your creativity and get ready for college by making your own
documentary, exhibit, paper, performance or website that could take you to the national
contest in Washington DC!
I-E Discover the World of Circle, Square and Line Dance
A sampling of each to learn folk, circle and square dances for the active teen. A great way to
meet new friends. Learn the easiest line dance ever. Take the “Popcorn Challenge”, master the
“Cotton Eye Joe” and don’t miss the Patty Cake Polka. MUST WEAR TENNIS SHOES OR SOCKS.
NO HARD SOLED SHOES, FLIP FLOPS OR BARE FEET.
I-F Train Your Brain to Control Your Life
You can train your brain to better deal with the challenges life throws your way. Everyday
challenging and stressful situations can come up at school, home, work and when out with
friends. We often react to them without thinking, causing us to become a victim of our
emotions, and we may do and say things we regret later. Learn to use your brain in a way that
can help you take control of your thoughts, emotions, and actions to lead a happier healthier
life…It’s your choice.
II-A Creating your Personal Ethos
This session will help you outline and define your values and interests so you can make more
confident decisions and choices about what you get involved in. Are you so busy you don’t
even enjoy what you are doing? This session may help with understanding how to say yes and
no to involvement.
II-B How To Think Like Leonardo DaVinci
The heart of this seminar is the discussion of the Seven DaVinci Principles. These are drawn
from an extensive study of the man and his methods. The good news is that Leonardi’s
principles will probably be intuitively obvious to you. You do not have to try to invent them in
your life, rather much like common sense, they need to be remembered, developed and
applied to both your personal and professional life. Each of these seven principles will be
delivered to the audience via interactive, hand-on and entertaining demonstrations.
II-C Marketing Primer
Learn how markets work through games and simulations. Be part of a team in market situations
where you must make the right decision in order to make the most money.
II-D Facing the Challenge
As we expand our programs to include youth and adults of all age’s abilities, it is important that
we are receptive to those who may have special needs. Experience the challenges faced by
individuals with physical disabilities, and discuss how to adapt their current programs to be
more inclusive.
II-E Entrepreneurship-a-PALOOZA! Tools and Tips for Teens Starting a Business
Participants will team up with their peers and meet with area professionals as they move
through a series of fast-paced activities designed to accelerate young entrepreneurs in starting
a business in 4-H, at school, on the farm, or at home. Take-away topics Include: a) finding an
innovative idea; b) creating a business plan; c) exploring startup costs and financing options; d)
applying technology tools, and e) turning ideas in actions.
III-A 4-H Public Speaking
Participants will be guided through the basics and finer points of writing and delivering a
speech. Youth should come with a topic that they wish to speak about and bring resources if
possible.
III-B MCIA-Missouri Citizenship in Action-Legislative Branch
Come learn how government works--from the inside. Missouri Citizenship in Action will put you
in the action as you train with state legislators, Missouri House researchers and legislative aids!
As legislators you will consider bill that affect the citizens of Missouri. You will have the
opportunity to debate on the floor of the Missouri House of Representatives. If you prefer to
learn about government by listening to a lecture, this is definitely not for you. Cast yourself in
an exciting new role, with the experts and learn what it takes at MICA! DRESS WILL BE
BUSINESS CASUAL SO PACK ACCORDINGLY!!!
III-C MCIS Missouri Citizenship in Action-Judicial Branch
Come learn how your government works…from the inside. Missouri Citizenship in Action will
put you in the action as you train with Missouri attorneys, judges and legal staff to prosecute or
defend the accused. As judges you will make decisions based on the merits of the cases. If you
prefer to learn about government by listening to a lecture, this event is definitely not for you.
Cast yourself in an exciting new role, with the experts, and learn what it takes at MCIA! DRESS
WILL BE BUSINESS CASUAL SO PACK ACCORDINGLY.
III-D Basic Sport Fishing and Fishing Experience
Fishing at Little Dixie fishing spot that has bass, bluegill, catfish and crappie. Participants will
have the opportunity to fish about 2 hours. Afternoon session will include Angling Skills; People
and Fish; Tackle Craft, Aquatic Ecology, Equipment. PARTICIPANTS WILL BE WALKING TRAILS
AROUND THE LAKE. APPROPRIATE DRESS WOULD INCLUDE; LONG PANTS ARE BEST
PROTECTION FROM BRIERS AND INSECTS. GOOD WATER SHOES (WADING SHOES) WOULD BE
BEST. NO FLIP FLOPS!!! YOU SHOULD WEAR A BILLED CAP AND EYE PROTECTION (SAFETY
GLASSES, SUN GLASSES OR PRESCRIPTION GLASSES) WHILE FISHING.
III – E Design and Build It!
Learn about the design process through real world problem solving. As a designer, you will
develop a concept structure for a pavilion. You will work as a team to create a physical model
built to scale and a 3D model in the computer. Your team will present their prototype to the
group in an immersive visualization laboratory. Get firsthand experience in the worlds of
architecture, engineering, interior design and computer simulations.
III-F Mobile Mapping in Conservation
Participants will learn from MO Dept. of Conservation Agents how mapping and GPS technology
assist in conservation methods in Missouri. Digital mapping using GPS units and/or geotagged
images from mobile devices are methods to help tell the conservation story through maps.
Participants will collect points and photos and present those points on their very own map by
the end of the day. This will include a trip to Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area located 6 miles
south of Columbia, MO. Participants are encouraged to bring mobile phones or tablets (not
required) to participate. WEAR COMFORTABLE HIKING CLOTHES AND SHOES.
III-G Solving “Crimes” using simulated body fluids
We will divide into groups. In the morning, each group will make up samples from suspects and
victims using grocery store materials, e.g., yellow food coloring and water for urine. In the
afternoon, other groups wlll test the samples to narrow down who remains a suspect using
biology and chemistry basic concepts.
