ANN ARBOR SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PRESENTS: Mozart Birthday Bash: Cosi fan tutte ANN ARBOR - An original romantic comedy comes to life with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra as they take center stage along with a hand-picked, all-star cast at the 18th annual Mozart Birthday Bash, Saturday, January 25, 8:00 p.m. at the Michigan Theater. Cosi fan tutte, also called Thus Do All Women, or The School for Lovers, is a two-movement opera with the libretto written by Lorenzo Da Ponte. First performed at the Burgtheater in Vienna on January 26, 1790, Cosi fan tutte was performed just five times during its composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s lifetime. Now it rates as one of the most popular comedy operas ever performed. This comedy is a tale of two young and smitten soldiers who boast of the beauty and honor of each of their lovers. However, their elder friend does not believe the ladies to be so faithful to the love-struck soldiers. He proposes how he will prove the sisters to be unfaithful -- “as all women are.” The zany plot includes disguises, a cunning maid, and a final reveal that brings all the lovers back together again. This opera brims with some of Mozart’s most beautiful arias, masterfully presented through the stunning artistry of special guest performers: Sarah Hibbard (soprano), Jennifer Holloway (mezzo soprano), Lauren Skuce (soprano), Charles Reid (tenor), John Shuffle (bass), David Small (bass baritone), and Stephen West (narrator). “Time-honored music, great singers and a lively narration are a wonderful way to pay tribute to Mozart. It will be a fun-filled and entertaining night,” says Arie Lipsky, A2SO Conductor and Music Director. Join the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra and our special guests, as they become part of this endearing comedy by one of the greatest composers of all times.
